Hi everyone. A couple of months ago a friend of mine mentioned a scene from a fic he remembered reading and asked if I knew where it was from. I couldn't place it, but it sounded so familiar to me that I was sure I'd read it or something incredibly similar myself, even though I couldn't remember anything else about it. I tried to find it at the time and couldn't, and earlier today he mentioned it again and I again tried to find it and couldn't, so I figured I'd turn to the one resource I hadn't tried so far: you guys.

The fic I'm looking for is:
-Post OotP
-Harry made Lord Black in Sirius' will (Yeah, I know those don't exactly narrow it down)
The scene in question:
-Tonks is asked by both Dumbledore and Amelia Bones to keep an eye on Harry on behalf of their organisations
-Harry catches wind that she's reporting on him and orders her to stop
-She has *no choice* but to comply because he's her Lord (I'm not certain if he knew this would be the case when he did it or not; I think so, my friend thinks not. I'm also not sure if it's an actual magical compulsion, or if it's a tradition thing, though I think it's tradition)
-She goes back and complains to Dumbledore and/or Bones about them putting her in a position which brought her into conflict with her Lord (Again, we disagree on this part; I think she was more distressed/angry about it, he thinks she took it fairly calmly)

I'm sorry I can't be any more specific than that, but if I had any clear memories tied to that fic I probably wouldn't be looking for help tracking it down. As it is I've looked through my favourites and alerts at least twice now, as well as the DLP Library list, but I could have seen the fic a dozen times and not recognised it given how little I remember. I know there are strict rules about asking for fics, but I'm pretty sure looking for a specific fic like this is allowed. Apologies in advance if I'm breaking the rules.

Harry isn't Tonks Lord in Darkness..

 

He's Lord Black. Not sure how much power he does have over her though.

 

It's definitely not TFTCD. I did consider it, but then I remembered Amelia Bones died in chapter 1 of TFTCD, and I'm certain it was her and Dumbledore Tonks was meant to be reporting to.

DarkSov and Kolskit, that's exactly why it's been bugging me for so long; I keep feeling like the name for the fic is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't quite remember it. Thanks for looking though.

Darius, Harry is Lord Black in TFTCD, but Andromeda Black (Tonks' mother) was removed from the family for marrying a muggleborn, which also applies to Tonks, and I'm not sure if Harry's got 'round to offering their place back in TFTCD, or if they've accepted if he has. I *think* in the fic I'm looking for Harry visited them and offered their places back, but I've also read similar fics where even though Andromeda was cast out Tonks was brought up with knowledge of the relevant protocol and etiquette that come into play without formal recognition like that, so I'm not sure if I'm confusing it with another story.

 

In TFTCD, Harry does indeed accept them back in, and I believe that Tonks has a whole monologue about how she was taught to be a lady of the House of Black, even though she wasn't at the time, in preparation for Sirius' taking the role of Lord Black, when he'd accept them back into the Black Family. Or, at least, I think that was how it was.

 

I'm remembering a scene where Tonks is sent out, I think from an Order meeting in the Headmaster's office to fetch Harry somewhere in Hogwarts. And Harry refuses to go, sending her back. It was because he's Lord Black that she couldn't force him to come if she wanted to, and no one had realized that he was her Lord before she complained about it upon returning.

I also remember one where Tonks gets caught trying to break into Harry's trunk, and she was the only one able to get into Grimmauld Place because she was family. And breaking into his trunk is sort of violating her Lord.

Either of those the one you're looking for?

 

The first one you mentioned definitely sounds like the fic I was thinking of, though I'm about 90% sure I've read the second one as well. Mind you, I think I've seen every major canon character save Luna go through Harry's trunk on someone's orders in one fic or another (I've probably read fics where Luna looks through it too, but I doubt that it was on anyone's orders) so I could be thinking of a similar fic. If I'm right Harry gets very upset with Tonks for violating his trust/privacy, but guilts her about it rather than purely getting angry or violent?

Either way, the first fic is almost certainly the one I'm after, though I'd appreciate a name for the second as well if possible.

Err... in case someone was waiting on me, I can't remember the two fics those scenes I described were from. I just remember the scenes.

I think in the second one, Harry's off doing something when he feels the wards on his trunk trigger. Tonks discovers his parents photo album and turns her head to find Harry right behind her with his wand out. Makes a comment about breaking into his personal things because Albus fears he's turning dark or whatever. I'm pretty sure Harry obliviates Tonks and then crashes the Order meeting downstairs, tossing obliviated Tonks into the room.

The first one where Tonks is sent to fetch Harry, he may have been in the Room of Requirement. I'm pretty sure he was alone somewhere in Hogwarts. Might even be before school year started. But Tonks has to return to the Headmaster and Snape makes a snide comment about being unable to retrieve the brat to which Tonks snaps back that hes her Lord and she can't do anything to force him anywhere. Or something.

I know both of these fics should be easily located. I just can't think of them. Anyone?

 

The one you're talking about there i assume is Reign of Power by Fayr Warning.

Thank you. Those were exactly the two I was thinking of. And of course I was completely overlooking the obvious despite having considered those being the fics before dismissing the idea.

Thanks a bunch Silke, those were exactly what me and my friend (Who also wishes to convey his gratitude) were looking for. I'm going to have to echo Nonjon and say that I, too, overlooked both fics repeatedly while I was trying to track those scenes down, mainly because I didn't remember any significant Tonks presence in either of them. Shows what I know, huh? Anyway, thanks again for the help everyone.

 

Reign of Power is an amazing fic but I never understood the attraction with Of Blood and Power.
