Is it just me or does avada kedavra sound a lot like abracadabra?

I'm sure that's one of the reasons JKR picked it. I believe Avada Kedavra comes from Arabic though, meaning 'kill all in its path' or something like that.

Aramaic: "adhadda kedhabhra" - "let the thing be destroyed".
NOTE: Abracadabra is a cabbalistic charm in Judaic mythology that is supposed to bring healing powers. One of its sources is believed to be from Aramaic avada kedavra, another is the Phoenician alphabet (a-bra-ca-dabra).

Thats what I thought too... I guess its just a coinsidence since the words 'Avada Dedavra' actually have a meaning behind them...
