Heres a plot bunny thats been in my head for a couple days now.

When Grindenwald, Dumbledore and Aberforth dueled Arianna died. However Dumbledore didn't lose his belief in Grindenwald's ideas, he just hid it. Fast forward to when Tom Riddle is applying for the DADA job at Hogwarts. Dumbledore knows that Tom is an aspiring Dark Lord so he decides to give him the job to keep a watch on him. Then one day he dissapears from his post, and Dumbledore recieves word that the Potters are dead, with young Harry surving with only a lightning bolt scar on his head.

Dumbledore realizes that Harry is an exceptionally powereful child, and raises him as his own. All the while, he is setting up his plans for the wizards to dominate the muggles.

    Any suggestions?

You need to ask a couple questions first.

    1. How will Harry turn out in the future? Will he hate muggles, tolerate them or does he do something else?

    2. Does Riddle get caught? Does he go to Azkaban and escape to become Voldemort? Does he become the Voldemort we know?

    3. Why does Dumbledore hold on to the belief of wizarding superiority? Why does he hold on to this belief? Does Dumbledore use the Dark Arts?

You need to elaborate on the plot bunny.

Why would Dumbledore wait until Tom Riddle wanted the job, and why does he wait all the way until the Potters die, to start his plans to take over the muggle world, why wouldn't he do it right after he defeated Grinwald in the 40's with all his popularity, and youth, as well as strenght?

Thanks for the questions, I honestly hadn't thought of that.

    Well to answer your questions.

    Dark Belra

1.Well since Harry will be raised by a different Dumbledore he will pick up his beliefs about muggles. In other words Harry will believe that wizards are supeior to muggles, but he will believe they are nessacary to keep pumping out muggleborns so the incest doesn't run to deep.

    2. Hmmm... Dumbledore doesn't want to continue the subject of Divination, so he doesn't even intervew Trealenary(Sp?) personally. The prophecy will still be made, just instead of Dumbledore, Riddle will hear it since Dumbledore relagated the duty to him. His time teaching has changed his personallity, so he doesn't become Canon!Voldemort. He still uses the Dark Arts, just not to the extent that he does in Canon. He also is not insane. Eventually he quits teaching to purge the world of mudbloods, and starts a reign of terror in the wizarding world. The Avada Kedava backfires (Lily still sacrifices herself) and destroys his body. He assimilated the horcruxes back into his body, but underwent other dark rituals to give himself immunity to death. It just takes time for him to regain his power and gather followers.

    3. Lets say Dumbledore lost the beliefs of his youth, but regained them when he saw how muggles were screwing up the planet. For example many rare magical species of plants and animals were lost in the wild with the cutting down of the Amazon. He sees that muggle incompetence is screwing up even the magical world and decides to act. He will use the Dark Arts, but mainly only the Imperius Curse and Avada Kedava. He relies mainly on political manueverings to defeat his enemies.

    To craigery9700:

Dumbledore waits until Riddle wants the job because he didn't realize the extent that Tom fell into the Dark Arts.

He waited until the Potters died for multiple reasons:

    1. He needed a strong, famous wizard to give him support. The public believes Harry killed Voldemort, so he could use Harry's popularity to increase his own political clout.

    2. Read point 3 above.

Thanks for your questions, they really helped.

Sounds good, but what would the plot be, does Harry rebel against Dumbledore or does he stay by Dumbledores side? If he stays on Dumbledore's side, will Harry be his bitch or will he have some form of independence? Maybe Dumbledore tries to arrange a marriage for Harry, maybe this makes Harry rebel.

Maybe Harry joins Voldemort, Maybe Harry becomes Voldemorts right hand?

Is the wizarding world any different then in canon? Is Dumbledore still revered as the 'lord of the light'? Maybe he isn't, maybe Dumbledore does not keep his muggle hating secret forever. Does the wizarding world fear Voldemort? If not. is he Dumbledore's main opposition in politics.

All you need to do is, keep asking yourself questions until you have a plot worked out.

I was thinking of a third faction Harry with the same goals as Dumbledore, but different methods. They will work together when nessacary, and they don't openly fight, but they will never really get along. Harry will not jion Voldemort.

Dumbledore is still thought of as the leading light wizard, but those who know him well realize that he is changing. He'll use the Order of the Pheonix to discredit his enemies.

The wizarding world is the same as in canon with one small difference. Tom Riddle/Voldemort isn't open about his ambitions. Everybody knows he's behind the killings and disappearances, they just can't prove it.

Thanks for all the constructive critism, it's really helping me move the story along.

Does this mean that Harry is a sort of 'Brute faction' and Dumbledore is a more discrete faction. Does Dumbledore use propaganda to influence the population? Does Harry consider hiding behind a facade as cowardly, Does he consider things like honor?

Will Harry have Ron as a friend or does he have other friends? Do his friends agree with Harrys methods of fighting?
Do the people who know he is changing try to warn other wizards? Do they distance themselves from Dumbledore? Do they try to convince him to change his ideas? What about Nicolas Flamel, does he still work out the ways that dragon blood can be used? or is he betrayed by Dumbledore? Does Dumbledore seek imortality?

How does he use the Order of the pheonix to discredit his enemys? Does he make them burn a village and blame it on his enemys to gain more suppourt? Maybe he uses them in assassination missions?

Does this mean that Voldemort is followed by aurours? Do people trust him? Does he use politics or propaganda in any way? Does he have his Death Eaters? If so, does he use them in Hit and Run? Do Dumbledore and Voldemort have any agreements? Do they, at any point, ally themselves to each other?

Any time, just make sure to write a good story.

Harry will still be subtle, but he will be less subtle than Dumbledore. He is a scapel to Dumbledore's needle. They can both kill, but it's harder to kill with one than another. Dumbledore will be more constrained by society's expectations, while Harry won't feel the same constraints.

Both sides use propaganda, they are both respected, powerful wizards, and the Daily Prophet prints both sides. They also have a sort of war going on under the surface, with all deaths being blamed on Voldemort.

Harry doesn't consider things like cowardice and honor in his actions, he just considers what is effective.

Harry surrounds himself with like minded individuals who share his methods. He won't have canon relationships.

Dumbledore is still considered a leading light wizard, and the people who notice his changing just attribute it to stress and old age. All of the work Dumbledore did in his younger years is still the same, but his old friends like Flamel are distancing themselves. Dumbledore may or may not seek immortality.

He uses the Order in the 'plant this Dark Artifact in Malfoy's house and call the Aurors' sense than the assasinate Malfoy sense. He might burn a village, but he would use trusted, brutal members like Moody to do it, not the Weaslys.

Voldemort still has the Death Eaters, they are just quieter about the members, with members on a need to know basis. Captured upper rank members have implicated him, but the information was gained during torture, so it is inadmissible in court.

He uses members like Bellatrix, Crabbe and Goyle in violent actions, but members like Malfoy in politics.

For this to work you will have to plan your story arc before you begin writing and stick to it, you'll have to know exactly where the characters are headed before you write it.

    Ask yourself the following questions:

What does Albus Dumbledore wish to achieve? What will he actualy achieve?
What does Harry Potter wish to achieve? What will he actualy achieve?
What does Lord Voldemort wish to achieve? What will he actualy achieve?

Once you know the main character's motivations and their position at the end of the story, then you can begin to weave the threads together and form the answer of how.

Not until you've planned a coherent, sensible and encompassing plot should you begin to write the story itself.
