The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
Read it.
Read it twice. Read it three times. When you're reading it a fourth time, think how fucking sweet reading it a fifth time will be. After a 16-hour marathon with one brief break for whores and scotch, I finished WMF and was left bereft, demanding more and cursing the long wait for the third volume. No spoilers, as the book isn't technically out yet, but those of you who enjoyed The Name of the Wind will not be left disappointed by The Wise Man's Fear. It is, in a word, beautiful. I regret tearing through it so swiftly, but look forward to discussing it soon... |

I am beyond jealous. Can't wait until March 1st.
Edit: Oh, and should we use spoiler tags in this thread, or should we just assume that spoilers will be rife and not bother?

How the hell did you manage to get your hands on a copy? I've heard of people trying to bribe Rothfuss with tacos, but I didn't think it worked....

Patience, friends, patience. The book will be all the sweeter for it if you wait.
I will give you this, though, considering it is not really a direct spoiler but more of a logical observation I made after reading a certain part of the story. Still: Spoiler (highlight to show):
Yes... feel the temptation to read between those spoiler tags. It hurts, doesn't it? I can taste your tears from across the face of the world. |

If Name of the Wind is as good as you people say... well, I guess I know what book I'm getting tomorrow.

Amazon.de did send me my copy yesterday, and yeah it is really a great book...The characters have a depth that i have seen in no other fantasy book, the plot is suprising and Kvothe is a really intresting hero.
I just hope he doesn´t need 3 years for the last volume. And i wonder how he wants to finish the whole story in one book.

Since I saw the thread about "The Name of the Wind" a few days ago I bought it and enjoyed it immensely. Good thing I read it now instead of months or years earlier otherwise I'd die of impatience. Last edited by Link; 02-26-2011 at 05:47 AM. |

My order has been shipped!
(estimated delivery date: April 04, 2011) I ordered them from the US, as NZ both has shitty covers, and its a lot cheaper, even including the $20 for shipping. In fact, ordering both Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear including the shipping was cheaper than a proper hardcover version of Wise Man's Fear from NZ. I'm sure i'll be able to find a copy elsewhere before mine arrives however. :/

Getting mine from Amazon at 11AM tomorrow.
If I don't, I shall be mightily upset, as I could have just walked to town and got one. I actually overheard someone in Waterstones last week asking the girl at the till what the release date was. Unable to resist, I gleefully told them of its imminent arrival.

Bought it this afternoon (currently 6pm in Sydney). At 1000 pages it looks about the same size as A Gathering Storm (WoT) from what I remember of it, so hopefully it'll take a few days to read. I'm about 75 pages in, and though nothing much has happened yet it feels exactly like The Name of the Wind did, which is obviously good.
