Alright, so I'm running Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion dv4. However, my computer can't pick up my usb's. I've tried plugging in my Portable Hard Drive (Seagate, FreeAgent Go) and my phone (Virgin Mobile Android LG Optimus V) and the computer just can't recognize them. Then even after I unplug it, notifications will pop up saying that my computer can't recognize the device.

I've connected both to two separate laptops different from mine and they connect fine.

I've re-downloaded the drivers for both and nothing happens. Any ideas guys?

Known issue with workaround: shut down, remove battery for 15+ minutes and then put it back in; start up.

While the issue has a workaround, I don't see any permanent solutions. What I would guess is happening is a static charge build-up that affects the pathway to the USB power feed. By removing the battery and allowing the static to dissipate, whatever breaker is protecting the rest of the motherboard then reconnects and you're back in business.
