Anyone know were Durmstrang is located? I think it is located in Russia, somewere around the border to Finland. Anyone else have an idea or has there been some kind of canon evidence for were it is located?

 

They didn't say exactly where it is, but I thought it was somewhere in Bulgaria. But there isn't real evidence

 

There are either 2 options:

A. It is in Bulgaria. Proof: Viktor Krum goes to Durmstrang and he is Bulgarian.

B. It is somewhere in Easten Europe and is an international school of magic that accepts people from many nations in that area, including Bulgaria.

It's not Bulgaria, that country is not cold enough.

It'd have to be somewhere in sub-polar circle. Since there are no east-European contries in that area, I'd say that Durmstrang is in Russia, probably northern Sybir.

Besides, remember how Krum talked about them riding brooms all over the surrounding landscape? It indicates that the school in in middle of some wasteland, if they can just fly around, without the fear of being spotted.

 

Hmm...but Durmstrang is commonly refered to as a European school, and Russia isn't in Europe...

 

I think that Russia west of the Ural mountains is classed as in Europe, fairly sure.

If that's true then I would agree and say it was near Finland and/or Siberia like ip82 said, it would fit with the idea of enough space to fly about on and the uniforms.

 

I big part of Russia is in Europe. Like Khorne said, to the Ural, which is quite a way to go. I allways imagined Durmstang to be near Murmansk. It's very cold there, it's up north, so they have dark winters and bright summers and its at the sea. I think there was a big port too which supports the ship in the lake.
The climate is like in St. Petersburg but harder.

 

I agree with the people that said Russia, given the mountainous terrain perhaps some were in or near the Ural mountains probably in the northern end. Eastern Europe for the most part dosn't have that harsh of a climate.

 

It's in Madagascar.

 

No, it's really on the Bahamas, but, to make everyone think it is somewhere else, they act as if it is in Russia. duh.

I find choice A to be rash and not well thought out, i mean i'm sure that schools accept students from other countries. I mean the wizarding world isn't very big, certaintly not big enough for each country to have there own school..
