NPH is pretty epic in this, the girl who plays Robin is smoking hot, and the show has a lot of funny parts. Some episodes are total wastes until you get to the Barney content, but thankfully 75% of his scenes are Legendary.

Who else is watching?

Fuck yes, Barney. He's what kept me going through Ted and Robin doing a Ross and Rachel impression.

NPH is completely the man. If he doesn't get an Emmy this year, it will truly mean the awards are completely meaningless (which I already sort of think). The show has its moments of annoyance, but Barney never fails to be... awesome. "Then I get Bingo, Ted" - brilliant.

I've been watching this from the start. I don't just enjoy it for Barney I enjoy it for all the references that can be drawn from the show
The Hot crazy scale
The lemon rule
"This is going to be legendary"
"Go for Barney"
"Lawyered"
and so much more. I also like the episodes that connect with past episodes, that you wouldn't understand unless you've been faithfully watching the show. The Slap Bet, the Pineapple, the billy goat. the Fierro, and Rajiff the cab driver. This is a well done show, and yes it is made infinitely better by Barney.

Favorite all time moment is the letter he leaves to his one night stands:

"Dear Resident,
The time we spent together, however long it was, meant the world to me. I would love to see you again but unfortunately I cannot. You see… I am a ghost. I can only materialize once every decade on the anniversary of my death. I chose to spend my one day among the living with you, sweet resident. Perhaps we will meet again in another decade provided you keep your fitness. Until then, all my love from the beyond,

Barney”

Watch it whenever it comes on basically. Favorite moment is the time when they listed the stupid sentences with 5 words said by men.

"I can trust you guys."
"I can totally make that." etc. etc.

This show has been my favorite show to watch for like... 3 years now. It's just that fucking epic. It got much better after Ted and Robin broke up. And before you say it, fuck off, that ain't a spoiler. It was told in the first episode that they were going to break up.

NPH definitely makes Barney the best character on the show. Suiting up, the Lemon Law, etc etc are what make the show awesome.

I was fucking pissed off as hell when I saw that Lifetime got the rights for its syndication. And I mean, what the fuck? Lifetime? One of the funniest parts of the show is how Barney bangs women and leaves them.

Edit: The episode Slap Bet was the best episode ever.

I love this show. Anything with NPH is going to be epic.

It's the group effect. Look at the individually...

Its been one of my favourite shows since I watched the first episode.
Barney is the best character by far. The fortress of Barnitude is just awesome, the toilet seat that automatically goes up, the bookcase of porn complete with lighting, the fact that the TV was the entire wall and not to mention the storm trooper.
There are just so many running gags that you enjoy the show a lot more if you've kept watching it. Like the slap bet moving into Slapsgiving. We better get a legendary ending to the goat saga, it’s been out there for 4 seasons now and if we don’t get to see what happens this series someone needs to die slowly.
Scary that it more than likely would have got cancelled last year if it wasn't for Britney Spears doing those two episodes. At least she finally did something useful and wasn't too painful to watch.

Quality show. Everytime I'm out with my friends at bars, I start playing "Hi, have you met Ted?"

Okay I just d/l'd an episode and I'm confused.
Do we still get laugh tracks in the 21st century, or are they trying to make it seem quaint?

Midknight

They tape the show, show it to a real audience, and record them actually laughing to the show for real. Not canned laughter like normal.

And yes, I just saw Slapsgiving. EPIC.

Tonight's episode was fairly good. Barney's video made it.

Midknight: You watched Slap Bet, right? The one all the shenanigans in Slapsgiving was based off of? Episode 2x09 I believe.

Yep. When Barney got to slapping him was funny as hell the way he did it, said he practiced by slapping a tree all day.

yes! best comedy on TV (if not best show period). Lemon Law, the Hot-Crazy index, the Circle of Screaming, and the Bro Code are Legen-wait for it and I hope you're not lactose intolerant-da(i)ry.

Best parts are when Barney meets a problem, like when he loses he meets the 'man-maker' and loses his confidence and on the train after the marathon.

I highly recommend the book 'The Bro Code' written by Barney Stinson with Matt Kuhn.

Dear Santa

December 15, 2008

Dear Santa,

As Iím sure youíve noticed, Iíve been extra special good this year, even taking on some of your work loadÖ by stuffing as many stockings as I can. So itís with great admiration and what Iím sure is mutual respect that I humbly submit to you my Christmas list for this year. And bro, if you have a sec, wake me up -- Iíd really like to talk to you about how you sneak out of so many womenís houses undetected. Iím good, but Iím not that good.

Happy Holidays,

Barney Stinson

P.S. I left you a glass of twelve-year-old single malt. Milk? Letís get serious, bro.

There once was a well-dressed man,
Who made a young lady a fan,
She gave him her number,
He laid pipe like a plumber,
Then before she awoke he ran.

All the fair lasses kept starin',
At a lad in the tavern MacLaren,
They fought for this stud,
In their bras and the mud,
Must be that pinstripe he's wearin'.

There was a young lass from Killarney,
Who promised a gentleman named Arnie,
That she only was his
Though a fat lie this is,
'Cause last night she was screaming O'Barney.

A man in a sharp navy blazer
Clearly hand-tailored by razor,
Went on a roll,
Captured his goal,
And never got tagged by a laser.

I was in love with a chick named Pam,
Who showed me pics of her fam,
Pretty cute cat,
But her mom was fat,
So I dumped her that night on the tram.

Awesome.

HIMYM is pretty good television, but sometimes Ted and the episodes just get too moral and preachy. I watch it for the laughs, not that hackneyed life lessons.

Though it is extremely amusing to realize all these crude sexual encounters (like say the naked man pickup? Wait til they leave the room and just get naked. Works 2 out of 3 times.) are supposedly Bob Saget's voice telling this to his young impressionable children. Can you imagine how scarred these children must be to listen to stories of Uncle Barney's shamelessness and Marshall and Lily's sexual escapades?

And yes, the Slap Bet episodes are some of the best. Especially for Robin Sparkles career as a teen pop star. Those songs and her music videos are classic.

I'm not ready to call it great though because half the time it feels like Barney's character is a tool to trick me into watching 'chick flick'-like material.

Especially now I have Chuck and House getting DVRed at the same time slot. So I gotta go online to watch Big Bang Theory and HIMYM. And for me, Big Bang > HIMYM as well.

I get the impression from some of the moments of recollection that he is meant to be telling his children a heavily bowdlerised version of events.
I just watched it, pretty good show, though Ted is quite annoying.

Anlun
02-08-2009, 11:34 PM
Yeah he doesn't tell his children the story exactly. There's one episode where he censors it for the kids and tells you what really happened.

I find HIMYM funnier than Big Bang, and the writing is better. Yes some episodes drag on, and some are just amusing but not funny, but a fair amount are hilarious, and they leave you with countless references. 'Lawyered' is my favorite, though I am biased since I will be a law student.

What bothers me is CBS doesn't do enough advertising for the show. Seems like all they care about is 2 and 1/2 men.

Blaise

^^Word. Though I won't lie, Two and a Half Men can be pretty damn entertaining.

Narf

Big Bang is decent, but not as good as HIMYM. What's the point in watching when Leonard and Penny already broke up? And Sheldon annoys the crap out of me sometimes with the shit he does and gets away with. :\

I've tried watching 2 1/2 men, couldn't get past the one dude who looks like he's gay but he isn't really.

Anlun
02-09-2009, 02:22 AM
2 1/2 men isn't bad without Alan. Alan kills the show for me. If it was just the kid, Charlie, and Berta (the cleaning lady), with the occasional pop in of the mom, I would watch it. But Alan is one of the most annoying characters ever written. There is only so much pussy actions a person can watch before they change the channel.

two and a half men is great. Except for any part with Allen in it. The dude's voice... ug. That being said, I havent watched the show much since Jake got fat.

And yes, he does censor it for the kids, he describes Lilly and them eating a sandwich, when the actors are acting out smoking weed. And when the catering lady is going to Paris, he tells the kids they spent a lovely day together, seeing the sights (fucking) going to the zoo (fucking), etc (fucking)

^ True that. The reaction of the "kids" each time Ted told them one of them smoked was especially annoying. And Lily's voice was badly dubbed as well as not being really funny after the first time.

Heh, not the greatest HIMYM episode by far.

maybe is 2030 smoking is seen as a strange act so the kids are shocked that their aunts and uncles did such a weird thing.

I stopped following this show during the whole Barney/Robin romance last season. I just didn't really enjoy many of the episodes.

Is the current season any good?

Midknight

Better, but not as awesome as it usually is. The Marshall's dad dying episodes were rather shitty.

QuaziJoe

I never expected Ted to meet the mother until the end, but they are pointlessly leading people on to believing that the end of each season he will.

The problem is the audience has already figured out that it won't happen 5 minutes into the season premiere.

I still watch it, and I still enjoy it. But I no longer watch it to see anything to do with Ted. I watch it Now for Barney. His Storyarch is actually pretty decent.

The fact that he is so established into the role of a womanizer is what makes his ultimately slow progression to becoming part of a relationship actually very interesting.

His very last revelation about his father, Robins friend, and the implications of what he might want for himself in reality are very well thought out; but without diminishing his originally Awesome character traits.

Barney

Basically. Pretty sure if they wrote Barney out, the ratings would halve. Barney and the duo of Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders are pretty much the only reason I watch. Ted's just gotten more and more boring. :facepalm

The show has been renewed for two seasons. Guess we won't be finding out who the "mother" is for two years yet (I believe contracts for some of the actors expire at the end of an "eighth season" too). Another case of a show running past its prime. For the most part, the current episodes are decent. But two more years of this? Not sure if I can stay interested.

Edit: 6th Season finale guess: Lily gets pregnant.

Eh, that could happen, but I've got other suspicions: I think Ted's going to at least get a major clue with regards to the mother at the sixth season finale, if not meet her entirely. It's already been established that Ted's friend Punchy's wedding is at least tied into this, and I strongly suspect that will be the season finale.

Also, major suspicions that Barney actually meets his father - and also a strong suspicion it goes like when Will Smith's character met his father on Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Either that or he finally gets back together with Robin.

Pretty certain that's the next episode: "Legendaddy". John Lithgow I believe is cast as Barney's dad.
