    How do you read fics?

Do you read chronologically no matter what?
If it is an important scene do you skip ahead to the end to see who wins then read the skipped part?

I myself for some reason read chronologically but if anything seems interesting in my vision of the screen I skip ahead to that, read as much as I can without scrolling down then read what I missed.

    How do you read?

You skip ahead? Thats kind of odd... well maybe not I know some other people who do that also.

I read everything in order without skipping unless the story is written so badly that it hurts. If that's the case, I'll usually skip to the later chapters and see if the writing improves... if it dosn't, well that fic is history. In the rare cases that the writing does get better... I go back and trudge through the murkiness.

Skim a bit at first, maybe jump some chapters with interesting titles. If the content's good, I read the whole thing in order.

I usually check a few things before I even consider a fic:

    • Is it written by an author I've chatted with, like, or completely disagree with?
    • What did the DLP members think about it?
    • Whats the main plot?
    • How long is it, and how much time will I have to blow reading it?
Depending on those, it either dooms fics or regulates them to when I can be arsed to read them.

Then theres a few WiP that I follow regardless.

Usually, by the end of the first paragraph i know if the story sucks or not. And unlike most people i know, i actually read every word instead of skimming.

I have a fast comprehension skill, but I have ADD at the same time. So i usualy skim though a paragraph, catch the phrases, and move on to the next one. I usualy get the whole paragraph like that, but if I miss something, I read it again.

Usually in order, but if I'm bored I'll go look ahead to see if it's worth continuing.

I find myself often reading dialogue instead of the paragraph I'm supposed to be reading if the paragraph is large. I don't like bulky paragraphs, it's hard to read them with FF.net's format and my computer resolution so any dialogue that catches my eye gets read instead. You know, to see if the paragraph is worth the eye-strain.

    It usually is. *shrugs*

I always skim though it to see if it's worth reading. 99% of the time it isn't and I don't bother to read back over it properly. I know it's a good fic when I really start to get into it involuntarily.
