I've started outlining an idea of mine, which will basically be a recreation of the 1st gen games but influenced heavily by Game of Champions/Sun Soul/That new Pokedex fic.

What would you want to see in a game like that? What features did you always wish were in pokemon?

The ability to navigate between multiple regions, such as Gold/Silver and their remakes offered, would be godly.

Unfortunately, the sheer complexity of having a mass amount of regions, along with their trainers, gyms etc without breaking the games and having every trainer 80+ pokemon by the 3rd region would be tricky.

Snap 2, all pokemon, dozens of levels.

I can't believe it hasn't been done, the Wii seems perfect for it.

Sounds cool. Also sounds something that will never be completed. Ah wells. Stuff that immediately pops to mind:

-All first gen Pokemon available in the game somehow. All the starters, especially.
    -No trade evolutions, levels ftw.
    -Actually challenging Gym battles.
    -Generally improved enemy AI.
-Berries or w/e that lets you raise IVs, semi-rare/difficult to obtain.
-Berries that let you retrain EVs easily.
    -Costume change for the protagonist.

^^ You've just seen why there will never be a pokemon mmo despite how quickly it will dwarf wow's sub numbers.

World productivity would drop to dangerous levels.

Shit, I'd sell out my mother just to get in the beta.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how nostalgic you are) it's Firered based so only Gen III and below. I think it might even be Gen I exclusively but I'm not sure.

It's alright, but it's essentially the pokemon games we have now given how online oriented they are at the moment.

I was referring more to the 3d world aspect.

War mode. Not even joking. Full team battle with you being able to flip between your separate units to control them in a real-time 3D combat. Non-controlled units would assume an AI paradigm that you pre-set until you do manual override. You, as the trainer, would be able to change paradigms on them with new commands.

None of the "Flash to combat screen" stuff or isolation. It's completely open world with whatever monsters you were able to care for with your resources against a full team of enemies.

There would be no arbitrary 6-mon limit. It'd be whatever creatures you can care for. Someone might have the funds for a 20 strong group whereas someone else sunk all their time and money into a monster of a Steelix.

Also stats more inline with how a pokemon is. Like, I don't expect giant pokemon to have trashy low physical attack stats when they have that much mass behind it. An Onyx bodyslamming a pikachu should do some pretty crazy damage even if, for some reason, pikachu has high natural defense vs Onyx's low phys attack.

No arbitrary accuracy either. Replace with charge time or something. The stronger the attack, the longer it takes to build up. That way the accuracy is already inherent int he need for the player to predict where the enemy will land. Like say thundershock vs Thunder. Shock would charge in .25s and be fired almost instantly. In contrast, Thunder would take a second or two of charging and require actually aiming.

    What I'd like to see:

    Nuzlocke mode.
Item based HMs (instead of teaching Cut to a pokemon, you can use a Saw for example)
    Also, no trade evolutions.

I'd also like to see a game where you can choose the town/city you start your journey in. Each town/city has a different set of starters to choose from, and depending on where you start, your journey will take a different route. For example if you decided to start in Lavender Town, you could start with a Gastly (would be difficult against normal types though), and instead of the first gym badge being in Pewter City, you would have to go to Celadon to get your first.

This would probably be very hard to do of course, since you'd have to set the gym leaders to use different teams depending on how many badges you have when you battle them, but I think it would be interesting. Just because Ash and Red started in Pallet Town doesn't mean every trainer does.

I'm going to grossly breach internet social etiquette and quote myself on this one, in regards to what I'd like to see in a Pokemon game.

I think that Nintendo should totally make a hand-held Pokemon MMO on the 3DS that opens up the whole world as we've seen it thus far. It would allow you to go everywhere, fight everyone, get all the badges, participate in multiple Region Leagues, introduce a new World League composed solely of NPCs and players who have beaten all of the Elite 4 Leagues, and allow you to pick your starter region (and thus, your starter Pokemon), but you can earn the starters of other regions through quests and by filling out your Pokedex.

Think of it this way: You boot the game up. You go to character creation. Boy, girl, name, ect. It creates an online Pokemon profile that everyone can see. Total number of Pokemon caught, Pokedex data, battles won, battles lost, ect. You can also customize your appearance, but your options are limited in that area (for now). Then you're prompted to choose your region. You do, and your associated Pokemon Professor gives you the rundown on how things are.

You're given a basic opening tutorial, allowed to choose a starter, and given a Pokedex. As you fill out the Pokedex to certain thresholds, you are 'rewarded' with certain items and Pokemon, such as gaining a Master Ball for every full Region and generation that's filled out, or being gifted with a semi-rare Pokemon like Scyther for, say, fifty new Pokemon from that region.

Certain Pokemon would also be elevated outside of the normal listings to make things fair. For instance, Mew, and other Event Pokemon, would be considered "Special Pokemon," and not be required for the game to give you full completion. Acquiring Mew, Shaymin, and other similar Pokemon through an in-game tourney or Rare Event would give you the classic "101%" completion for that area or Pokemon set.

As you travel, new areas are opened up for exploration. As your hit certain milestones in your own accomplishments, you unlock new base skins to use for your appearance, to dress up your character. Catching twenty Flying types and evolving ten of them nets you the Bird Trainer base skin, for instance, while other "specialist" skins could be unlocked by accomplishing similar things with Ghost, Psychic, Ice, or Water types. Other, more advanced skins require meeting multiple objectives, or having multiple skins unlocked beforehand (for instance, the Ace Trainer Skin is only rewarded upon acquiring five other specialist skins and also beating a Regional League), while others might require specific events to take place (you can only use the Dragon Trainer Skin if you pass the Dragon Trial at the Dragon Shrine). Once you have a skin, you can modify it further by tweaking it's colors and adding purchased accessories, like sunglasses, hats, vests, and scarves. This allows you to customize and earn your appearance, starting from a Rookie Trainer skin all the way up to a Pokemon Master skin, and gives everyone the opportunity to differentiate themselves from each other in an MMO setting.

So you can control and change your appearance, which evolves as your trainer grows and becomes more skilled. So how does that work?

Each Region has it's own League, it's own Elite, and it's own Gym Leaders. In order to challenge the Elite, you need to defeat the Gym Leaders. They and the gym trainers who assist them all have Pokemon sets that are leveled to the highest level Pokemon in your team, so things remain fair. Upon defeating each of them and earning their badges, you can challenge the Region Elite, and their reigning Champion. Defeat the Champion, and you gain that Region's Elite Badge, which 'replaces' the Gym Badges of that Region, essentially acting as a superbadge.

Collect every Elite Badge, and you unlock access to the World League, which is comprised solely of other Players and NPC Champions, and contains Pokemon Stadium style challenges and PvP battles, with special engagement rules and unique prizes, like ultra-rare items, shiny Pokemon, and event related objects up for gabs, like Aeon Tickets.

To make things even more interesting, once you reach the top, you're allowed to "Prestige." You keep your global rank, but willingly forefit all of your Pokemon and Items, which are banked and kept in storage. This allows you to start again once your League Rankings are maxed out, allowing you to pick new Starters and fight through the game making new choices. Once certain thresholds are reached, portions of your Bank are unsealed, giving you access to TMs, HMs, Items, and Pokemon at or below certain levels relative to the one you have reached. Pokemon, TMs, HMs, and other items would likely be Region-locked in addition to being only available at certain levels. The only way to unseal your Bank entirely is to re-earn all of the Elite Badges, and re-gain admittance into the World League.

Upon doing so, you gain a Star on your Trainer Profile, and unlock special items, skins, and accessories, both for yourself and for your Pokemon. You can Prestige as many times as you like, acquiring full sets of Starters and earning additional Stars and premiere accessories and items as you go, some of which might unlock access to new areas, such as an overhauled and expanded Sevii Islands, or a premiere Pokemon Spa with unique encounters and special services like changing a Pokemon's Nature or allowing you to train new Abilities onto them to replace their old ones.

The Global League would be multi-connective, but also partially hands off. Two people don't have to be in the same place at the same time to battle, although there would be areas dedicated to that. Instead, while competing, you leave "echos" of yourself in those tourneys, which linger after you yourself leave, and can challenge others in your absence using your team roster and the tactics the game records you as using most frequently. These "Ghosts" can be rated by others, and it's even possible to face yourself should you frequent the same brackets repeatedly.

There would also be a form of "raiding" a-la Darksouls, where you can run into other players while outside the World League areas. However, players can toggle this on and off at any time under Options, and there would be further limitations to prevent deliberate griefing, such as disallowing PvP field confrontations in Gyms and Towns except in designated buildings and areas, and tiering players up into different brackets based on both the average level of their overall team, and the level of the strongest Pokemon on their team, to prevent more powerful players from griefing weaker ones, and to mitigate exploits in that system, such as running a team of five level 10 Pokemon and one level 100 (average Pokemon level would be 25, which would put them in the 25-30 bracket, but because the game also checks the level of your strongest Pokemon, it sees you with a single level 100, and bumps you up to the strongest bracket as a result).

There could even be global and regional 'events,' such as Swarming Pokemon or randomized Team [WHATEVER] Activity, giving players changing goals and an evolving world to participate in. It could even be possible to arrange for Raid-style encounters against "unchained" Legendaries or nonrandom surges of criminal activity, playing out an overarching global story in addition to the player's on person one.

I case you can't tell, I've thought about this a lot.

Honestly, I'd just like some versatility in your story. Something other than 'collect badges, challenge league.' Give me a game where I have the option to go to the dark side and become the boss of Team Rocket (or better, start my own team and recruit followers).

Here's the problem many just aren't getting. It's a game, there needs to be limits and balance or it'll be useless and boring...

Let everyone have 20 pokemon each covering every possible weakness and strategy... Heck, they may as well be all legendaries while we're at it...

Where's the skill? Where's the tactics? Where's the fun?

Can all the pokemon be balanced? No, that's just ridiculous, but the tiered stat allocation system works pretty well in that regard, as well as move limits and abilities.

Every pokemon will just have haze, along with their sweeping abilities even if they're not a hazer just to fuck with your dragon danced bulky gara....

A monster hunter like battle system with a fixed # of moves would be closest to balanced + awesome. Stats don't change and limited # of EVs for customisation would be okay.

Legendaries should be uncatchable and master balls removed for challenge and lore reasons too.

I want gore and Pokemon size to matter. I don't care if your rattata is in the top percentage of rattatas, my fucking fire-breathing dragon is going to crush it under one foreleg for Newtonian damage, which is super-effective against everything.

I want an interactive world. When I become Champion, I want sprites' patrol paths to change, as they all step aside before me when I walk the streets which I own by might. When I capture a Legendary, whose powers encompass such things as fate, time and destiny, I want my name spoken in darkened, hushed text boxes as I pass. I want my selections of pokemon to appear like a legion in the parties of those trainers who would seek to overcome me, my words and strategies flowing like dogma from their coded lips.

I want a true battlefield, the BLOOD and the THUNDER. When I decimate my foes from Gyrados-back with its' terrible Hyper Beam, I expect to be able to walk to the next town through the mile-long blast wake caked in pixelated viscera.

...I want the terror and the darkness too, the fearful reality of living in a world where elemental monsters stalk civilizations paths, where beliefs and theocracy are rendered void by the very ghosts that haunt your graveyards.

Finally, and most importantly, I want to live, as man, in this pokemon world which I must defend, with only courage to pull me through. I want to use the power that's in my hand to claim my rightful place. I want to go far, so far beyond the chaff and the crowd, until I reach the next plateau, where no one has ever been.

I don't want to be a master, but the greatest master of pokemon. I want to be the idol, that which is invoked and beseeched when the very thought of mastery is actualized. When trainers search themselves to find their potential, I want them to hunt for some resemblance to myself. When they crave the power, when they bleed and struggle for every last inch of improvement, they must merely be closing the distance between themselves and me. When one leaves on their path to becoming a Champion, I want all maps and roads to converge where I stand at the terminus, where beyond me lies NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN KNOWN OR SEEN.

I would also like additional storage boxes and the ability to evolve all pokemon without trading. Thank you.

The ability to evolve Pokemon without trading could be easily fixed by either allowing quasi MMO status, so people can 'hook each other up' more easily, or by putting NPCs in the game that are offering to trade you Pokemon for the Pokemon that only evolve by trading.

That one bitch who gave her Haunter an Everstone can burn in the depths of hell. You know who I'm talking about.

Some simple things that I wish could be implemented:

    • All Regions are available through either plot, quests, or achievements
    • All Pokemon are available per Region through either plot, quests, or achievements.
Kinda tired of having to buy two games to get everything for a single fucking generation. Three games, if you want all the special cool content of the extra game [Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, etc]. Furthermore, in the interests of independence:
    • No trade evolutions.
    • NO TRADE EVOLUTIONS.
Other simple changes that I think would streamline/improve gameplay:

    • Allowing Key Items to be used with the L and R buttons in addition to Select
    • Optional Nuzlocke Mode, complete with Customizable Rules.
    • Option to turn off Contests
