Every fourth book is one that has the Fae as a central aspect of the plot. They also tend towards larger plots, but that doesn't hold with Proven Guilty unless you count the assault on Arctis Tor that we got a brief glimpse of.

The latest books have tended more towards heavy Fae involvement though, so the trend my not hold any weight now.

 

Anduriel brought along his 'spawn' for that favour, which allowed Mab to claim reciprocal right to let Harry bring one ally. I don't see the Fallen themselves having familial relations, which led me to assume she meant Dierdre rather than her Fallen. As such, I meant recently as in within two millenia.

Considering the massive imbalance between Summer and Winter, I'm kind of concerned regarding what exactly 'whatever they wanted to do' would entail.

Come to think of it, Winter taking over the Outer Gates could potentially be what led to the end of the Ice Age (edit: that's, of course, assuming the above assumption of <2000 years is wrong).

Excellent point. I'd forgotten that. In that case, I'd bet on the Dragons. Tessa is mentioned as being from Thessalonica and was sold to the Temple of Isis, the Ancient Egyptian/Greco-Roman Goddess of Magic/Mothers/Nature/etc. That puts her at some time around the 1st/2nd/3rd centuries AD. The changing of the guard must have occurred after that.

Could be that there were few Fae back then, or they were less organised. Power and responsibility are very heavily linked in the Dresdenverse, with greater power having greater restrictions on ways you can use it. I'd put good money on the Sidhe Courts having had relatively little power for the majority of time before they rose to prominence and became the new guardians of the Outer Gates.

At about 6:30 in this video, Jim Butcher explicitly states that the Erlking is the Summer King and Kringle is the Winter King.

Although it is from a con in 2010, and I guess he has retconned it as of his AMA on Reddit.

I think he's referring to the part where some girl talks about the new spirit that Harry, uh, "birthed" in Skin Game. A lot of the audience hadn't read Skin Game and they booed her.

That story he told at the very end about his time in Brazil was hilarious.

 

Loved the anecdote, I'm wondering how much a curse like that informed his view of magic in the dresden series. Seriously, though, I don't know much about Jim butcher but from having participated in a 'fundamentalist' mission as a young man, I can appreciate more the sort of level of grounding he must feel he lacks in other religions. Makes me less uncomfortable with the Christian OP in skin games.

Goodreads also has the title of book 17 listed as Mirror, Mirror. I have to say, the more I think about the idea, the more excited I get about it. Think of the possibilities.

There will be limited consequences to his actions, and consequences are one of the biggest things holding him back. The knowledge he will have, that no one else would... yeah.

In Dead Beat, Dresden says Cowl had even more raw power than Ebenezar McCoy. Let's face it, Harry still isn't anywhere near that level yet. Not even in terms of raw power. But I suppose that is a discussion for another place and I'll get right on that later tonight.


Moving on: I found a few pages of War Cry being showcased on Jim's site. The cliffhanger alone is more than enough for me to decide to buy it as soon as I get home.
