I think that retcon can be explained away with the 'he's been promising to take me but kept cancelling at the last minute line'. The minisode never actually showed them at the towers - just that they were on their way. Perhaps they were delayed.

    Or something.

A return to the Library and the Vashta Nerada might happen at some point. They can bring her back for a final episode or two... not that I really want them to.

Wasn't there already an episode that brought her back post-library? She was a ghost or a projection or something.

I fully expect River to be brought back for a future Doctor; more than likely by downloading her consciousness into a new body, a la regeneration. Even with that in mind, I still feel this farewell was beautiful. It's nice to know River and the Doctor spent a substantial amount of time with each other, just being man and wife. I can finally accept the immense love we saw her having for the Doctor's previous incarnations because I have concrete proof that she wasn't just some temporal booty call.

Gods. Reviewing Tennant's reign as Doctor, watching the Graham Norton interviews, and remembering just why I love this show, despite all the wrecks of the past years.

I just got around to watching the Christmas Special.

I have to say, I liked it a lot. The more I think about it, the more solid the episode seems. It had a great combination of consistently good acting by both Capaldi and Song's actress (forget her name), epic/funny moments, nostalgia, and a unique, interesting feel to it that is hard for Who episodes to nail.

If anyone's been putting it off or forgot it, go watch the Christmas special.

Chris Chibnall is going to be the next show runner of Doctor Who.

If I were to judge him just by the episodes he wrote then he's not bad. He will get extra point from me if he gives the Doctor a companion similar to Brian Williams whose all appearances where written by him.

Before the show will have a new captain there is going to be no Doctor Who in 2016 and Moffat's final series is going to start in Spring 2017.

No rumors about the new Doctor, but I suspect Capaldi will leave the show with Moffat allowing for a completely fresh start, just as happened with Tennant and Russell T Davies.

Shame it's not happening sooner. Say, a season ago.

Chibnall did some great stuff on Torchwood.

Farewell Moffat. I really won't miss you.

    Source.

While I've largely enjoyed Moffat's tenure, I've got to say this is probably a good thing. As for Chris Chibnall...well, mixed feelings. Torchwood was mostly nonsense, and his contributions to Doctor Who have been all over the place - 42, The Hungry Earth/In Cold Blood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three, which can all largely be summed up as nice concepts that turn out disappointing (although Dinosaurs is one of my favourite episodes). Broadchurch had an outstanding first series, but was a rambling mess for series two. So...yeah. Not exactly leaping for joy at his appointment, but not complaining either.

I kinda hope Capaldi sticks around after Moffat, largely because I feel that they've only really just started to get him settled into his own take on the role.

As for no series in 2016...so long as it does come back better than ever in 2017, then fair enough. Although it sucks if you don't really care about the Olympics or the football.

Capaldi had better not fucking leave the show. He's only recently managed to really establish himself and his presence as his own unique Doctor, and he makes a damn fine one too. It's too early for him to leave.

Why exactly is there no Doctor Who in 2016?

That's certainly the reason being given. Doubtless by Monday there will be a couple of hundred conspiracy theories about the show being on the brink of cancellation again, but there always are.

Wished they at least made an Easter special or something. But I think the spin off is supposed to hit this year, is it not?

A cast list and basic premise has been released for the BBC3 spin off series, Class.

TL;DR: Coal Hill School is now a Hellmouth. Not the most surprising basis for a spin off, but one with a certain amount of potential, I suppose.

As long as it isn't kid-focused like SJA, I'll try it out.

    Yawn. Another contemporary young woman.

Still going to watch - hopefully the actual writing isn't as grating as the introduction video.
