I feel almost obliged to get it as fast as possible. Not in the night though. In the Morning is early enough.

But I fear about spoiled fun.
For book 6 I avoided all newspapers news until I had finished the book.
And I really managed to finish it before everybody was raging about Dumbledore dying...

The hard thing for all not English speaking people is, that the newspapers will publish the end anyway even if for example the German book comes out about three months later *sarcasm*

What do they gain with it? Sure it is interesting to discuss about it, but it is not really fair to do it, when the majority of the readers couldn't even read the book yet.
And to avoid spoilers was nearly impossible. How do you ignore a headline like "Dumbledore Dies"?

Lol, I'll be down at the local Tesco's at midnight, where everyone gets them from rather than expensive bookshops. Got GOF, OotP and HBP at midnight too.

Ignoring spoilers: you stay home. Ignore paper, radio, tv and friends calling (which is sort of difficult when books come out months later).

I'm not afraid of spoilers as much as I am of myself. I don't want to read too fast in order to get to the end. Or worse, read the last chapter first, which is wussy behaviour or major curiousness, whichever way you want to put it.

If your friends aren't insensitive, flap-jawed assholes, then they should know not to tell you jack shit until you've finished the damn book. I don't watch the kind of news programs that would reveal the death of a main character in a Harry Potter book anyhow, so I think TV is okay.

Lulz, you're seriously going to avoid human contact for 3 months just so the ending isn't spoiled?

I find that funny, in a sad way.

Me, I have no need to worry. I don't really care. Though, I'll still read it a few times.

Yeah same here, unfortunately if getting un-stuck what I'm afraid of. I like the story. I like writing fanfiction for it. I like reading other peoples fanfic. Once this book comes out and it's all officially over, will that kill the community?

When a story is unfinished, people try to think up their own endings. As soon as it's finished, people say "Oh thats nice" and set it back on the shelf. I think the smartest thing an author could possibly do is start a series like this and stop about 2/3 way through. Then open the story to other writers as long as they get say 5%. Fanfic writers could go legit and so long as the original author never publishes an "official" version on how it ends everyone could stay happy.

I dread the book coming out.

It only means the start of the end of HP fanfiction. The community is going to slowly but surely decline after the books end.

I'm going to miss you guys :(

I'll buy it, but will probably not like it very much, Harry is lazy and lethargic in canon and after reading the book that shall not be named i find JKR to be a sell out. The only reason i will read DH is b/c i started the first book when i was in fifth grade and when DH comes out i'll have graduated from high school. I kinda feel like i have to finish it.

I'd doubt this will be the end of HP fanfiction. I'm sure it'll decline or (even scarier) it'll increase because so many people were so pissed at the ending that they'll write their own. You see how people reacted with OOtP and HBP. Maybe Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (wtf???) will cause a increase of FF like the last two books did.

Amerision's post made me all depressed. I never realised that after the 7th book, all will be lost >_<

On the flip-side, I recon I have a good 6-7 months or more with you guys so... :D

rofl. I don't think the book will be as crappy as we all think - or at least, that's what I'm hoping. One can only wait and see.

I will probably read it online as soon as possible, because I will buy only the german version of the book so my sister and mum can read it too.
Last time I managed to avoid the spoilers for 2 days until I could read it. That means no forums either. (I still remember all the new forum threads "LOL SNAPE KILLZ DUMBLEDORE!!")
Well, my mum managed to avoid any spoilers for half a year until she read it... wonder how she did it. ;)

I agree that probably alot of folks will want to re-write the ending. I mean, look at Lord of the Rings and the Matrix. And at any rate, there are still places to go and things to do beyond the end of book 7, if she doesn't kill Harry. And even if she does...rewrite.

Harry could have children, who could end up being bad ass characters in their own right. Shit the possibilities are endless.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what happens here at DLP. Will is fizzle out? I hope not

What I can see is a large influx of Post Voldemort fics, where Harry and Ginny have a wonderful family and we will read about their childrens pranking days at Hogwarts, a bunch of Time travel fics will pop up, all pretty much the same as they are now. Then a decline in Harry centric fics as people inject themselves into the HP world.

I dont think that makes sense, but Im knackered.

Huh!? It's coming after July 8th, about 2 weeks later.

I hope this forum doesn't disintegrate, that'll make everyone sad. Hopefully the book will inspire different plot devices for authors. One thing that I don't like is when the author reads the new book, and they are sooo upset with it that they abandon their stories.

I will be at the bookstore at midnight with all the other idiots who are too impatient to wait even though my hopes aren't too high.

As for what will happen with the community...I know I, for one, am definitely not going to stop reading fanfics (maybe someday I'll even get off my ass and wite one) no matter what happens in the 7th book. As someone mentioned earlier, just look at the Lord of the Rings. There is plenty you can do in fanfiction even if the books are complete. In a way, I almost hope book 7 sucks ass because that gives all the fanfiction writers more reason to keep writing. At this point I enjoy the fanfiction more than the actual books. You can explore so many different possibilities in fanfiction that just aren't possible in the actual books especially since it all has to be kept g-rated since they are children's books. People on this site especially like graphic and violent battles and stuff like that, and there is just no way that's going to really happen.

I think that was a bit off topic, but oh well.

    Yeah I did.

And I doubt the fanfiction decrease will start within a year of book 7 release, probably sometime after the year and half mark. People will be writing their own endings and such.

It'll slowly die down but I doubt it will ever die.

As for the forum, only time will tell. I know I probably won't stop coming once book 7 comes out.

Will read, won't buy. It'll probably be as bad as HBP, since she seemd happy with the way that book turned out.

Oh okay. My apologies Jeff, I thought you meant July 08 as in the actual day >_<
