I had no clue TFtCD was even a Romance fic.

    Arranged marriage = Romantic?

How the hell did these make it as Romance "lessons" should have been #1 and it didn't even get an honorable mention

    oh well, majority rules

Yeah, TFTCD probably won this category because many people don't read romance, so they picked the story they know the best - the most popular from the bunch. It's a crime Lessons didn't get a place in top 3.

Agreed. TFTCD's romance isn't very apparent at all, and is minor in comparison to the actual plot. And yeah, a marriage of convenience isn't very romantic at all, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm both shocked and irritated that Lessons didn't even get a mention here, especially since it is easily the most popular romance fic on the site. It should have, quite frankly, been first.

I'm a little irritated by how an author's name and the presence of an aspect in that author's story seems to influence people. No offense to Jbern, this is directed at the people who voted TFTCD for Noir and Romance. Just because a few scenes in a fic, minor ones, might correspond with a genre like 'Noir' or 'Romance' (here I point at the two or three-odd actually romantic scenes in the fic), doesn't mean you should throw it up for the nominations out of some sense of respect/whatever to the author.

Hope is a good choice, as is SotMV, both feature actual romance. Admittedly, SotMV's romance is overshadowed by the smut, but the romance is most certainly present.

The problem was probably that you HAD to vote for something to move on to the next page. Thus, the favorites had won a lot of default votes from the people who hadn't read read more exotic fics (Lessons, A Song of the Trees), but were forced to vote for someone (so why not pick the best story from the bunch?).

I can't say much more than Yarrgh has already. I agree with him, totally.

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
Hope and SotMV are the only ones I agree with. Jberns isn't even romantic, there is nothing lurvy durvy in it. Lessons should be in there.

I'm going to echo the replies by saying that Lessons should have been top of the category.

If you look at the pairings done in the 3 stories that won

Harry and Susan chose a marriage of convienience.

In Hope - Gabby bonds herself to Harry and doesn't give him much choice about it. Break the bond and drive her insane or give the little cute veela a go.

Secrets of a Male Veela is sex and violence. I like the story, but romance is about like TFTCD being Noir.

Sorry Kendra, this should have been your category. If it's any consolation, you were my 1st place vote.

    Jim

I appreciate the support, guys. Honestly, I didn't actually expect to win, and now that the results are posted I am not surprised.

Sure, this is the Romance category and my romance in Lessons was probably more defined, but as a whole, the story lacks things that could make it as strong a fic as any of the ones chosen. Plot is a big one...

As a whole, my fic needs a lot of improvement, though the romance aspect of it is very strong.

That having been said, it doesn't really bother me. I have enough people who read/review my story (and who voted for me, thanks very much) that I know I am a good writer and that the fic deserved every vote it got.

I'm happy about that at least. Congradualtions to the winners.

    ip82 is correct.
Not having read many romance fics, voting was simply a thing of choosing the ones I had read.
Although SotMV was my top pic.
I guess Ignorance is Voting's greatest enemy.
I should start reading more fics from the library now.
    Lessons awaits.

Gah. Gotta disagree for this one. I really liked Hope. Tftcd just wasn't meant to be much of a romance at all.

'Tis sad Lessons didn't get in the top 3.>_> I tried to avoid 'TFTCD' as much as possible while still voting for Bungle in the categories where it most fitted.

I agree with jbern as SotMV is mainly just sex and violence, but Hope, I liked it wasn't a bad romance. I found it odd that no body even nominated Stupid is as Stupid does by Sugerplumfairy. I thought the romance in it was very well done... though maybe thats because I like Blaise so much.

I'll put my hand up and admit to having done just that in quite a few categories. If there had been an option to not vote I would have taken it, because I hadn't read anywhere near all of the stories.

In the end I didn't vote until about two days after I started trying, just so I could read *some* of the stories and not be totally ignorant.

Stupid is as Stupid Does is my favorite romance ever. I just forgot to nominate it >_>

Not to mention the clusterfuck it began in the last 3-4 chapters.
