Beyond the Xenforo better default features, no new innovation from the get-go. We're aiming for a 0.95:1 replacement and over time make it more than it was before.

The biggest thing is getting a solid new platform to build on that'll be supported for a long time to come. That will support a considerable amount of new development I'd like to do and have been putting off since I don't want to write plugins for vB.

Oh yeah. The search engine is much much better. I paid for the plugin which makes search lean on ElasticSearch. ElasticSearch is what I used heavily at my previous job and what I use for Scryer. The search is 100x better in Xenforo -- no more site:forums.darklordpotter.net on Google.

 

We'll still have copies and I believe an accessible way to view the social groups, Raven can correct me if that's wrong. There's just not a good way to do Social Groups on Xenforo that we've found yet.

 

vBulletin will be maintained read-only until the content is ported into Xenforo. Backups are not necessary.

 

Will I be able to continue to give access to new members, at least?

We really do need some form of replacement for the groups that retains its core-functionality, i.e. a user being able to create a space where he can decide which other users have access or don't. The integration in the forums is less than stellar with vB, but the principle itself really is needed.

Members can make private threads and invite specific people to them with xenforo.

If you want something similar to the old theme, go to the bottom of the page, click Light Lord Potter, select Dark Lord Potter. We're working on it right now and when it's 100% we'll switch it to the Default.
