I agree and plan to take it seriously. I proposed the following guidelines:

40K minimum - it's long enough that any shortcomings in the story will be evident. Do you want a maximum?

Completed story - Many stories look great until an author tries to bring it to a close and it falls apart.

No continuation of a current storyline - eliminates my current stories and the sequel planned to Bungle. Eliminates any other currently released fanfiction. Released meaning posted on ff.net and ficwad.

Beyond that open mike competition. I don't want to write like Vash or Bioplague and I'm sure they don't want to write like me.

If you don't want to wait a year, that's cool with me too. But I do have 2 stories in progress that I want to bring to an end. I can work this one into the rotation without the other two suffering too much.

If we hold the vote sometime between June and August, it'll be a good way for the site to see how the new voting structure would work for next year's awards.

Lol. The thinness of peoples skins in these parts is getting worse.

"YOU HAVE INSULTED MY HONOR! I CHALLENGE THEE TO A DUEL!"

All we need is a glove-slapping icon and it's all set.

Anyway, the only thing I like about this is that maybe, just maybe, we'll get two good stories out of it. Maybe. That would make me a happy camper. I just don't know if Merrill will waste time with this, however. Or maybe he will.

Yup. I'm pumped. So when does the competition, "begin" Is there an official date for when the first post has to be OR is there a finish date?

And what if someone hasn't completed the fic, but they've kicked ass more than the other person, are they disqualified?

That's about it from me. I hope Bio does this. More stories is good. :D

Personally, I think pistols at dawn would be more expedient (and amusing).

Edit: Damn, Xiao Xiao beat me to it...

If we do this, we'll vote on several categories between the stories to make them as balanced as possible. Each will be worth anywhere from 1-5 points.

    English: 40% of grade
    • Grammar/Spelling/Mechanics
    • Flow
    • Plot
    Content: 40% of grade
    • Beginning
    • End
    • Content
    • Character Development
    Overall: 20%
    • Overall
    Thus, score = 0.4(mechanics+flow+plot) + 0.4(beginning+end+content+character_development) + 0.2(overall)

Those are some ideas anyways. What do you all think?

For the English category, I would propose an addendum outlawing the use of beta readers, Britpickers, what have you. Write the story entirely using your own devices, no help from anyone else. Of course, it's impossible to actually enforce, but if the winner breaks the rule, he has to live with knowing that he had to cheat to win the contest.

My attitude is generally each author should be able to set their own working environment, even if that means Betas.

I'm not objective either, though, as I do beta for a few authors, so....

You guys set the rules, whatever they are. I'll read the fics.

Lol. I haven't seen Doug in years. It's been awhile. Funny picture.

So... what's happening with this write off? Vash is involved now? Tha fuck is going on? It's turning into a writing orgy.

I suggested no betas for a reason. This isn't a test of someone else's grammar/spelling ability. We don't care if someone else can find plotholes and errors. No one cares if you can use the ideas someone else suggests to you.

I've no intention of using one, though I doubt Jbern has the same intentions considering the All-Star cast helping him write his stories.

Doug pwned your soul. And ja. I am in this little attention seeking contest. Though, honestly, I dont expect to win. After all, Fanboys > Quality.

    Oh and Hyphen.

    LOL to Doug.

Man, that was a good show. I never loved it, but it was decent when I was a kid.

The story I'm planning on using has been seen by people to the partial of chapter 2 and the plot bunny was discussed, but only in general terms. So no beta past chapter 2. Is that acceptable?

But I can fly solo from there on out. Both Yarrgh and Nonjon can see that discussion thread on AFC to see if I am fudging on things.

I'll agree to Lord Ravenclaw's scoring system. Is Patronus charm ready to host a story or two? We could do it there? It'd be a good way to break ground on the website.

Meh, matters very little to me. The story Ive decided I'm going to use is only know as a general concept at this point. Hashing out details in my head as I do shit around work.

Either way, once I get it started, I think I'll hold off on posting until chapter three or so. Keep a good amount written so I can post a chapter weekly or biweekly.

Last i heard PC wasnt quite finished yet but Very close. Would pwn to have PC up in time for my posting, though.
