Shadow, could you point out the points you're feeling good about from Delphine and Cobalt and the things from Newcomb that seem pointless?

 

What your read on Newcomb is? And how confident you feel you can get a read on him? I was under the impression he is just a free townread but then people here are saying he is not easily cleared and Regfan isn't in the game so I'm not as sure about him just self-clearing like I was coming in.

I kind of expected him to come in memeing and was a little concerned when he didn't but is apparently null for him? And he was kind of memeing in his catchup, umm but this might not be as AI as I think? The only thing I really remember about his scumgame I read was that he was really stiff and didn't seem to enjoy himself at all and he was overdoing things. So that's kind of what I'm looking at from him and he feels pretty relaxed and comfortable here.

I also liked how he read my treatment of fonti, it could be that he just knows I'm town but he didn't need to be charitable there and he was in a really simple way. Same kind of thing with how he treated Delphine, he kind of laid a bunch of groundwork to end up pushing her then... ended up squinting a bit at things that might make her town. Not sure how good that reasoning is though. And he came back into thread to post more despite laying slank cover which I liked.

Thoughts?

Humm, yeah, I think those are all decent reasons to townread him? It's been a while since I've played with scum! Newcomb, but I'm expecting him to be decent and to not, uh, overextend himself, if that makes sense? I kind of reluctant to townread him when it doesn't feel like he has this grasp on the game state and is pursuing it. It's sort of a mindmeldy thing, not really sure how to explain. I've had it a bit with Jan.

Town!Newcomb is going to get to that point eventually and he's not going to be mislynched, so there's no real reason to defend him.

Um. I am trying to change my game and one of the things I wanted to not do this game was make wallposts like, at all, so I am trying pretty hard to curb that even though it's where I'm most comfortable. I also have a bad tendency to live in thread and get too wrapped up in everything so basically keeping my distance + making small posts + only engaging people when I have a really specific / good reason to do so is kind of what I want my play to look like. And I kind of like where it's put me headspace wise, so.

I know Vaimes a bit personally but I don't know him as a player at all, no. Last game was first time I had played with him and I was clearing him off meta I didn't even understand so am being more careful with him this game. I actually have a few things that I am looking for from him that I got from Regfan but am mostly just letting Jan/Newcomb/fonti handle it.

What do you mean you will be super town? Do you have drop off as scum or something?

And um, is there anything in particular about dC's thread presence that you like? Do you have any other thoughts about him or any feeling about why you haven't gotten to town on him? I can understand giving extra room to someone before committing to a read on them and it's kind of what I'm doing to most everyone here, but some thoughts about what you do have would be pretty helpful I think.

 

Encouraging everyone to roll those bolded bits around your heads and imagine the mindset behind both posts there in the context of them being real thoughts directed at someone you're genuinely trying to determine the alignment of.

I disagree.

In the first post, he doesn't know how many times you've done it, or what alignment you've done it as. Once you tell him you've ONLY done it as a villager, this changes his line of questioning to how many times you've done it because I completely agree that doing something more times as town makes you more likely to bust it out as scum.

I don't have experience with scum Waco so I don't think I can comment really. I think if he's mafia he knows he's in a decent-ish position in thread and is trying to make a bunch of empty noise pushing against shadow to drown out shadow's push on him, spinning things that aren't really indicative into a hard scumread, but I don't think there's anything that hugely points to us being in that world?

Like, the push feels more bad than actually scum motivated, and I think your point is decent re: him maybe doing more to make his read look good if he's mafia rather than just treating the read as if it's self-evident.

Say more re: digging Jari's salt? What did you think of my point re: him not really reading into dC's alignment here? Am kind of torn on this tell because it happened twice in my past two games where Waco didn't really do anything with Jan WKing him and annulus in our hydra game not caring about Boi hard defending him. I've caught mafia with it before though so meh.

I think the freshest observations I have for the thread are:

1. Fonti /did/ do the option select thing I mentioned last time I was on. Specifically, starting by vaguely questioning an early townread Player A made on Player B. Then depending on how the thread goes, claim it was either because she had doubts herself about Player B or claim it was because she thought Player A was TMIing as scum.

Like, there can be a town progression there. "I thought this town read was weird, is it because I disagree with it *ISOs Player B* Ah, Player B was scum *Player B does towny stuff* Ok, I still think that read was weird, let's go back to it" ect ect.

I'm not sure that's what happened here?

She describes her own case on me as "a terrible push" and is using Jari's reaction to it to push Jari, but she's kind of trying to have it both ways?

I /think/ this is probably what Vaimes/cobalt are thinking about atm, but they could also elaborate.

2. Is Tom really a universal townread right now?

I mean, I'm fine with looking elsewhere for now, or putting off the question via lump, but I've always thought the big difference between town!tom and scum!tom is that town!tom tends to be more stubborn, and scum!tom tends to be more opportunistic. And this game's tom . . . is feeling kind of opportunistic? I can come back with examples if we want to make this a thing, but I just wanted to say it out loud.

3. I think Jan is my strongest townread? I'll do a proper wall before I get off for the night, but I think I'm finding myself nodding along to what he's saying more than anybody else this game. I need to crosscheck his current positions though, other than ~mysterious noises about my catchup~ to make sure I'm not getting sweet talked.

Newcomb's tonal stuff is on roughly the same wavelength as me, but I'm not feeling how gung ho he is. Which is par for the course, but I know scum!him kind of works in the same way scum!caphriel would work, so pointing out stuff that bothers me gets less points than it would from other players, becuase the whole point of that playstyle is to find bothersome stuff to focus on instead of whatever else.

I'm liking Cobalt and Vaimes so far, but I haven't extricated how much of that is because they're being nice to me and participating, and how much of it is them being town.

This is a good break point for this post.

Anything I can do? I honestly feel totally fine about you after we talked and I trust you or at least want to trust you to read me fairly here. Don't force anything and it's fine if you don't feel comfortable after I freaked out at your gambit but I would like to not just be a feelsbad read for you.
