I think Newcomb is scum, but mislynching him would probably be the most idiotic thing I've done this year. You are correct that he doesn't fit with Shadow. Shadow is kinda skirting the tone I associate with his scumgame and I can definitely see him being scum if my Newcomb read is, uh, off in the weeds, as it were, which is actually totally possible. Lynching for scum!Newcomb's partners is also moderately stupid because I don't think there are any that really overlap between the two words.
