I actually don't mind that bit (the reason townies don't address scumcases on themselves is that anyone who believes the case BELIEVES THEY ARE SCUM and thus that you're a liar and thus cannot be convinced by you, while anyone who doesn't need the case doesn't need to be talked to about it)

Like, my beef is more that he's been very reactive and stuck to safe targets which really doesn't feel like town!Newcomb to me. I feel like he should be chasing or pushing harder, and probably investigating things other than Jari/shadow

FWIW Dave did this to me in Portal 2 Mafia. It does happen, if rarely.

Yeah no, I get it, don't worry :v

Let's start with adressing the bolded.
It doesn't matter if you like it or not.
It is his playstyle. It is known by everyone and their mother and has nothing to do with his alignment.

Like .. the last point is you being frustrated and not caring about his alignment. I might argue on your behalf if he hadn't done other things to get a read on him and this wasn't a known playstyle quirk. Eido does the exact same thing.

Talk to me about his wall. Is the only thing you dislike about it that it is so big?
What about his thought process in his big post don't feel genuine?

Drop the part where you are frustrated about his reaction to your push. It won't get you anywhere and won't convince anyone who has ever played with Newcomb before.

Basically I'm in a position where I think Newcomb is the most dangerous player in this game right now and that is why I want him lumped.

Yes if he is a villager he will probably just die sooner rather than later. However that tells us multiple things - that his giant walls are completely pure and we can trust those reads implicitly, and that scum was somewhat threatened by his standpoints.

It's the most beneficial to gamesolving to lump Newcomb. Because if nobody outs a red check and he doesn't die, we at least have some semblance of idea of where to start gamesolving w/r/t people who would potentially want to manipulate his lump vote because they DON'T feel threatened enough by confirmed town lumped Newcomb. That would put me in all sorts of tinfoil worlds but would also be a great place to start mapping things out.

And if he does die, he dies and we take it from there.

I don't want myself to be right about scum!Newcomb, nothing being done about it, and having him skate away to endgame.

Except this time fucking check him for fuck's sake so he doesn't live with lump as a witch.

This. This is also really what I couldn't put into words.

He's reactive without ACTUALLY reacting because of whatever the fuck his playstyle is about not engaging people that are scumreading him but his pushes on Jari and Shadow are the most shallow, un-gamesolvey easy pushes that anyone could possibly make I think.

As town I believe Newcomb should put some stock in the level to which I'm townreading Shadow because of mindmeld. As town I believe Newcomb would recognize Jarizok for the easy target that he is given the amount of times he's been lynched here, and instead of pursuing Jarizok, pursue others who have sought easy lynches.

Instead, NEWCOMB is the one seeking the easy lynch.

We should never be going with the easy lynch.

Feel like Waco dinging Shadow for saying he doesn't like to look at other games, then asking for a Waco scumgame is pretty ??? Could potentially be a "pushing on something that looks wolfy vs. pushing on something that makes someone actually more likely to be a wolf" thing.

What I will say is that Newcomb has some NAI reads that I believe we should put stock in regardless of his alignment.

Namely, malslot / dC never being w/w because of that one dC post.

Unless the team is exactly Newcomb/Asmo/dC I find that both witch Newcomb and town Newcomb would have reasons for pointing that out.

    Hrm.

I'm kinda realizing that my play today has been...not similar to Newcomb's, but what happens when someone tries to avoid all the easy lynches and the rest of the town insists on going for them.

I'm not sure what that means though.

Alright, alright, no need to keep trolling the poor guy :V

What if the easy lynch is just scum?

I get to the easy lynch because I have a good amount of townreads.

Saying that you should never take the easy lynch is just wrong.
If you never take the easy lynch then then player next on the letter will be the new easy lynch because you can't take the even lower hanging fruit.
And that goes up until you reach me at the very top of the foodchain.
Nobody wants that. (Plus there is no logic to NEVER taking the easy lynch)

And I am really sorry that I am not giving that many fucks about your shadow town mindmeld read. I am willing to let him be the lump and if you are right then we can go from there.
But like .. you did get pocketed by tom last game fairly and I don't see anything shadow did to be that hard to fake. That might be me because I never had those thoughts in the first place which makes them feel even more fake to me.

No. Had more free time early in this game that I did for most of that one, though

It's like I'd already made a post talking about it...

Somewhat like the fact that Vaimes didn't really go anywhere with this other than pointing it out. Which in the context most other people would probably be wolfy? I feel like it's more... see post, react to post kind of Vaimes which I associate with his towngame.

dC .. your easy lynmch bullshit is so fucking tilting.

Do you want me to ask for you to get lynched?

I have a couple of townreads and the only spicy person to lynch that is somewhere in the poe is fonti.
And I don't have a scumread on her at all. She is just good enough to fool me and there hasn't been a reason to think she is just always town.

I just don't get the logic about easy lynches at all.
If 25% of the playerbase in a game are "easy lynches" because they are either just scum or don't portait town well, then why is it bad to lynch in that number and look for the possible deepscum afterwards?

Unless you think the exact mafia team is always the three strongest players that can fool you and feel towny?!
What is the point of those empty words?

    @Jan

wrt Newcomb's wall post, his Shadow case feels... bare, at best. He cherrypicked one post mid-catchup and was like "this is how I pocketed Cobalt in TH5" which was like, you got lumped and never got checked so maybe that's part of the reason? But anyway.

His Shadow case seems like a lot of cherrypicking, and a lot of trying to make other people see what he wants us to see. I obviously don't see shadow that way, but he's so certain that there's one wolf in Shadow/Waco and yet so willing to just yolotown Waco and lock in Shadow as a scumread?

That progression doesn't make sense. If you're yolotowning Waco for whatever reason, insisting there's gotta be one wolf for sure in Waco/Shadow without lending even more consideration to Waco being the wolf in that scenario, it just doesn't make sense to me as something a villager would do. "Welp I guess I'll town read this person. But they're also 50% wolf with this other person."

    It just doesn't track.

I see what you're saying on easy lynches and I'm not saying NEVER because that'd be dumb but I think it's a lot more AI to catch people being opportunistic in pushing easy potential mislynches than it is to just assume the easy lynch might be scum.

    Sigh.

Because this is the way D1 ALWAYS goes, D1 is ALWAYS a mislynch unless scum fuck up badly in my experience, and I thought maybe I could change it this time around since it happened to me in the last two games and I caught myself just going along with it and felt shit for it afterwards.
