The only thing worse is seeing an author use “sweatdrop” “facefault” (I think that’s it) or “tic mark on the forehead” as legitimate parts of their writing.

Two things that likely color my opinion a lot:
    - I read it not knowing HxH, so not really caring or even knowing about the characters or the setting from that side.

    - There's also the fact that I despise Hinata above literally every single character in the series and she is sort of the main character here. I don't really care for Shino either way; Kiba is ok.
BUT I read very, very few fics in which they are adults (and post-Shippuuden in general), so this being coupled with the fact that Not Sick is the tits made me give it a shot, especially since Hinata's age should handily fix most reasons for my loathing of her.

The story itself is well written, but not much happened to make an impact on me so far. Team 8 arrived, talked and joined up with some local guys, killed some ants, then got banged up a bit and recently came back for more, but then some bad shit happened.

The fact that the antagonists are a bunch of sentient mutant ants isn't the best, since ants are... well, ants, mutated or not. This makes it kind of difficult to really feel much for it, and my lack of knowledge about HxH doesn't help. Fight scenes are decent, but not nearly as good as Not Sick due to the characters taking part in them.

The story is too short to make me care about characters from HxH. The only thing I found truly engaging was the part with HxH talking about their mysterious allies and whatever the Chairman (?) suspected of their civilization.

I would probably like the story a whole lot more if it had any characters I cared about, but alas. I'd recommend it if you know HxH or like Team 8 for some inexplicable reason. If neither applies - give it a chance if you have some time, but don't expect too much.

The Chimera Ant arc in HxH is quite possibly the best arc in all of anime . Only problem with it is the pace. It takes roughly 50 episodes to build and most of the enjoyment comes from the characters growing. I read this recently enough and got up to around chapter 7-8 but nothing's stuck with me. The team 8 character interaction didn't interest me much really.

Chimera ant arc truly is fantastic. This story is not unfortunately. Team 8 does absolutely nothing for me, and while I appreciate the effort to bring in less focused on characters into the story, the execution simply doesn't interest me as of yet.

Still though, the Chimera ant arc was long and brilliant by the end, maybe this can be too.

    Check this out: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12431866/1/Sanitize

    Sanitize
Basic medicine and sanitation are simple. During the Warring Clans era, they become revolutionary. [OC-Insert]

A doctor is reincarnated into the Warring Clan era and combines modern medicine with medical chakra techniques. Pretty interesting, good writing and Hashirama and Madara are there too. I really like how it integrates real science and medicine and manages to improve on medical chakra which is essentially magic. Minor spoiler as an example:

sealing wounds with chakra doesn't get rid of infection but makes it spread inside so she's trying to synthesize penicillin

I understand how some might find this interesting, but this sounds like one of those GoT fics where some SI invents penicillin or the printing press.

    Do not want.

I actually quite liked this. Although there are encounters with Named-Clan characters it's in the background, making it much more palatable than crass SI upliftwank. I liked that the focus was on a peasant village - in all honesty, I would have enjoyed it if the author had gone deeper into a slice-of-life style

It loosely reminded me of the series Outlander (WWII nurse travels back in time, has cringey romance with hard-bodied gentle-souled Scotsman) which had some fun scenes conflicting superstitious locals and science-based medicine.

While it was an enjoyable idea to visit, I have to say I immensly dislike female SI s.

This is actually really well written. It avoids the usual pitfalls of SIs and works pretty good.

Reading it right now and really enjoying myself. It's quite a lot of fun and an interesting time period to explore. Has been a while since I was last drawn into a Naruto fic like that.

This story is a very prime example for that they’re always this shrinking wallflower that always becomes the plaything of various characters while sitting at the same spot.

I don't understand what people like about these female OC/SI stories tbh. They're just counterparts to the male-centric Naruto harem stories - wish fulfillment, albeit better written.

It's the better written part that makes it different for me. Hell, if anyone ever wrote a harem fic that was actually decent, it would probably revitalise that genre in the same way Dreaming of Sunshine revitalised SI OCs. It's spectacularly unlikely, of course, but it could happen. As it is, I like the story, but it could have done with a bit more than the Alternate History style of storytelling. I don't even have a decent idea of the time frame the story covers because the scenes skip forward by years at a time.

Still, I like the glimpses of Yui's personality you get in those really tense moments. I like that she's not the typical boisterous SI that involves themselves in everything. She has her thing and she does it with the same commitment you'd see from Naruto or Rock Lee, with the difference being that she needs to rely on others to have as much of an effect as a shinobi main character would.

It's not the best SI story in the world. It's a bit too bland for that, but it's interesting in its own way and a decent way to spend an hour or two if you're bored.

I'd probably give it a 3-4/5, leaning towards the 4.

I recently just read Shed Skin and I just gotta say. That fucking ending made me want to kick a goddamn kitten. Its probably one of the better stories I've read, and to beat it all its in a quest format.

I just don't even know how to feel right now.

Spotted Cherry - weird name - was a pretty fun ride. It's abandoned fairly early on but probably worth a read anyway - the main character is mad, in that sort of irreverent quest way, but that adds to the fun. When it hits the action it really gets in a stride. If it was longer it would be worth recommending by itself.

Plus the whole way through I was just imagining this:

So, are there any Hokage Naruto fics written post-series that take advantage of the Boruto Era and what we know now? I just find it weird that there were all these stories about Godaime Naruto and Danzo-installed-puppet Naruto back in the day, but now that he's actually achieved his dream there's little to nothing. What gives?
