What I'm taking from this article is that Tom Holland is a big fan of David Tennant and got the chance to show it.

Ah, I had trouble hearing that part of the dialogue in the theater. That would explain it.

I remember hearing that line about maybe half the Asgardians surviving but I also remember their spaceship exploding so idk. Did they specifically mention escape pods in the movie or were we supposed to assume?

The how was never mentioned, but I did assume they'd managed to flee somehow before we jumped in.

Hmmm... for some reason I don't remember Thor saying half the Asgardians survived. To start with I did think that would have been the case, but since there was no sign of that at the beginning, masses of bodies when Thor is picked up, and I missed Thor mentioning it, I got the wrong idea.

For Thor getting knocked out immediately, my thought was that the movie is 150 minutes already and we couldn't add too much. While you could add a 2 minute preparing for battle and a minute or two of Thor blurring in and out of consciousness while getting glimpses of the battle, if you did it properly it would be like a 20 minute fight scene which is way too long. To keep it short and dramatic the POV character has to get knocked out quickly.

I think it would've worked even better if the opening shot of the film, instead of the ship getting bombarded, had been a beaten and bloodied half-conscious Thor. Then they could've done a fade in / fade out from his relative perspective in no time flat.

Thor definitely said that half the Asgardians had been killed. On which note, is there a definite answer on whether Valkyrie is still around? (pre finger snap, at least) I've seen some people saying she can be seen in the mass of bodies on the ship, and others saying she's not there at all. I certainly didn't notice her.

I think it was also confirmed that Gamora is inside the Soul Stone, so she'll probably be coming back too.

    It was Quill's plan!

Idc. He had the best part of the movie, so he can lead the universe to ruin. He's earned it.

I'm going to go see Papa Thanos again tomorrow. It's a shame I'll have to sit through all the boring superheroes in between his scenes though.

Saw it today. I had mostly managed to avoid spoilers leading up to it, which is pretty hard in this day and age. All I knew is that Thanos "won" which honestly isn't that much of a spoiler once you learned that it was being split into two movies. That being said, I've been burnt out on superhero movies for awhile now. I've seen maybe half of them up to this point. Hell, I don't think I've even seen the second avengers because the plot synopsis doesn't sound familiar to me at all. So, I pretty much went into this with the only up to date knowledge of mine being GotG2, and whatever random wikipedia articles I've read and just general comic book knowledge.

So, onwards to to the movie. I liked it a lot. I knew the run time was about 2:30, but it didn't feel that long to me. And despite not knowing many of the characters, I didn't find that too inconveniencing. I knew the Avengers, and I knew the Guardians. Didn't know who Dr. Strange was at all, though he was pretty awesome. Didn't know who the Scarlet Witch or Vision was, though I had read enough over the years to identify them (though I don't think the Scarlet Witch was every actually identified on screen). I didn't find them that interesting. Only knew of Black Panther due to random knowledge of Vibranium, so I wasn't really attached to that setting at all. Dislike Captain America and co.

Opening scene was interesting. Honestly, I have no idea if it was the cliffhanger from a previous movie or anything, but it seemed kind of spurious. Kinda shocked at Loki's death, though I've only seen the first Thor and Avengers but I liked him in those. Heimdal was cool too. I'm not really sure how the whole "god" thing works and getting killed though.

Gamora's death was the kind of thing that slowly dawned on you as you realized what the setup was. Pretty sad.

Not really a fan of spiderman. Haven't seen any of the new ones though, so this was the first time I've seen him pretty much. Kinda annoying.

I liked Thanos a lot, and his minions we're pretty interesting. Though, the wizard one's resemblance to Voldemort is way too uncanny.

Thano's fight on Titan was pretty cool, though Starlord fucking ruining the plan was facepalmworthy. I dislike that ran the same plot line kinda twice, like 1 person being or not being more important than the universe or whatever. Did it with Vision and Gamora.

As I said, I haven't seen Black Panther, so I have zero feeling for Wakanda at all. But, I do hate throw-away lines for the sake of comedy, so I rolled my eyes at the Vision thing.

Mostly dislike what they did with Hulk. I get that he got his ass kicked so hard that he didn't want to appear again. That just made it so he was a waste of screentime for the rest of the movie.

Dislike the "normals" a lot. Black widow, captain america. etc. They should have no hope of accomplishing anything in a fight against an enemy who is many orders of magnitude more powerful. I didn't mind them in the Wakanda fight, but Thanos should have legit just pulped them all.

Honestly, I liked Black Widow in the first avengers mostly because she was a hot redhead. But she's not a redhead now? Is that just because every single character in the movie is a redhead? Wanda, Gamora, Pepper, and Black Widow? One of them had to go I guess.

Don Cheadle looked sickly. Drugs, or maybe just age? Just didn't look like he was healthy.

Would have been okay with Tony Stark getting killed. Felt like that would have had a huge impact.

Ending. Not surprised at the ending really. Kinda felt like that was the whole build up. And, despite not really knowing anything about the universe, I assume that the next movie will be about undoing the damage. Not sure if it's just undoing the actual erasure, or if people like Loki and Gamora will be saved as well (though I think for consistence, since they were physically killed they should stay dead).

As for the ones that we erased, it felt kind of lopsided. Like, all of the Guardians except for Racoon got erased, and I don't care about Nebula at all. But, since she's still alive, I guess that means she has an important role. All the original Avengers were spared, which feels kind of cliche. Black Panther getting erased despite his movie still being in theatres is kinda crazy I feel like. Spiderman's death was welldone, especially since I have no attachment to this one.

Don't really have much else to say, other than I thought it was pretty good. I'd give it a 4/5.

Just saw the movie today, enjoyed it and I'm very eager for the next one.

Some random thoughts, that hopefully aren't too repetitive.

What stuck with me after walking out of the cinema were the thoughts about the aftermath of Thanos' snap.

Tony is stuck on Titan with Nebula. He just lost Strange, his magical equivalent, and Peter, an earthling who knows his way around in this crazy galaxy. But more importantly, he just lost Peter Parker literally in his arms.

Given his whole character arc since Avengers 2
and his quasi father/mentor relationship with Spiderman this loss will hit a lot closer to home than any of the previous stuff. Just before shit hit the fan he talked with Pepper about kids, now he will have to tell May, that her "son" is dead.

Regarding Quill holding the idiot ball, I get it, but it kinda fits with his character.
The guy shot Ego in the face.

I wonder what character, that disappeared could reveal a Skrull further down the line. Maybe Bucky?
Steve sees the guy disappear only for the original to pop up again with different memories.

I personally find it hard to believe that Doctor Strange, who saw millions of outcomes, didn't see the outcome of Quill punching Thanos. I imagine it happened in a lot of versions.

So why didn't Doctor Strange say something about it?

Perhaps because it needed to happen this way?

Perhaps, even without Quill's intervention, the outcome wouldn't have changed, or it would have changed for the worse?

Doctor Strange gave him the stone after explicitly saying he would let them all die to keep Thanos from winning. This is totally part of his plan, whether the plan works or not is another matter. I think people are being a bit hard on Quill, it fits exactly into his character considering all that led up to it, plus having Thanos snatch victory from the jaws of defeat is far more potent and fits with the fact he is the actual protagonist of this one.

I kind of wish they had shown the horror of random people turning to dust in front of their loved ones for no knowable reason. The fallout seemed hyperfocused on the avengers and didn't quite convey the magnitude of what Thanos did across earth and the whole universe.
