I have no desire to see a Boba Fett movie, but an Ewan McGregor as Obi-wan movie would work for me. I'd prolly go see that one.

I actually enjoyed Solo very much. Shame it‘s not doing too well.

The film has obvious issues, but I found myself not particularly caring as it is otherwise a lot of fun. The first heist was a bit too drawn out for my liking, and there were some other pacing issues in the first act. There are some issues with effects as well, the 3D looked very wonky at times, particularly aboard the Falcon with the wall padding (?) in the background.

The thing this film really has going for it is that Ehrenreich & Glover nailed their characters. Not a surprise for the latter, but very much for the former after all the rumours. Not for one moment did I have the impression that I wasn’t watching Han Solo perform his youthful shenanigans – which, by necessity, aren‘t exactly of the same variety as those of his older, more experienced self. Han’s growth and development over the course of the film was well-handled and appropriately foreshadowed. Similarly, the younger Lando complimented his older version from the OT without becoming too reverential or parodistic. Emilia Clarke also delivered a very good performance as Qi‘ra, and I hope to see more of her story arc in future anthology films. Woody Harrelson did his thing, and that was okay. The same goes for Paul Bettany, who played Vos with a peculiar brand of suave creepiness.

All in all, I‘d rate Solo 8/10 (rounded up from 7.5 because I‘m really very partial to it). A pleasant surprise overall and I will probably go see it again tomorrow.

Yeah, get it about Boba Fett. That one is almost in the bag, from what I've read. It'll probably be the next anthology movie. And since the decision to trash old EU canon, I can't see how they'd be able to satisfy a majority of the fans. It's a no-win movie idea, because Mando-lovers will hate it because it won't be "their" Boba Fett, and they're the ones that were pushing for the movie the most, in my opinion.

An Obi-Wan film with Ewan at the lead is a virtual guaranteed winner as long as they don't totally fuck up the script.

I really, really liked Solo. Everyone I hear saying 'murr, maybe don't shove SW down our throats' I'm guessing hasn't watched it.

Honestly, If I had to choose having either Rogue One and Solo or 7 and 8, I'd go with the former every day.

I have heard rumors of a Princess Leia movie with a recast Leia which.... meh.

Anyway, if they are going down that route of recasting the original trio then a true Jedi Luke film would be badly needed. I am talking about Luke at his most powerful going full out. I would also like to see Mara Jade introduced. Technically, Luke and her could have had a great relationship and she just died during the 30 years between the two trilogies. This kind of movie could really turn the fans' opinion around on SW. Much more so than a Boba Fett movie.

Sebastian Stan could totally pull off an older Luke. He just needs the proper wig.

    I have to agree.

The Anthology movies just have better pacing and more personal stakes than the actual sequel films. Episodes 7 and 8 try too hard to be about the ultimate fate of the galaxy, and end up not having any impact at all, while Rogue One and Solo are both strictly about the characters and their motivations and actions. Sure, the eventual fate of the galaxy is there in the background, but ultimately it's mostly about their personal stories.

I just couldn't care less about the fate of the countless billions of people killed by the starkiller base at the opening of episode 7, while rooting for the hero to get back to his girl has a lot more relatable story.

Also the OT setting with a rag tag team going against an unstoppable empire is a lot more compelling one than a totally ineffective government getting their asses handed to them by the bad guys.

I just came back from seeing Solo, and while I think the script wasn't stellar, the acting was pretty good, and Ehrenreich and Glover were just what they needed to be.

4/5, would watch on a rainy day again.

Also, I enjoyed the fact that like, six films later, Maul finally got some lines.

I'm honestly kind of curious where they're going to go with it now, if it ends up getting the green light - People love to make origin stories, but Obi-Wan as a youth would have to be in a well-made film about Jedi training, and that's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and Ewan's too old for that now. Conversely, they've now pinned him down on Tattooine for much longer than I thought he'd have been there with his brief pop-up on Rebels, so they've only got a limited time frame to work with there as well, and there's only so much you can do with a planet that's 99.4% sand.

That said, as long as it's still Ewan, I'm watching it.

The novel Kenobi was a decent story. Nutshell: Obi-Wan's first adventure on Tattoine. Getting involved in the local's power intrigue. Ending up being a Jedi and foiling the villain.

I can easily see something similar: him wanting to stay out of the action, keeping a low profile because of the priority that is protecting Luke. But something comes along which pulls him back in, kicking and screaming. Seeing as how Tattoine is a bed of scum and villainy, I can see dozens of ways to play this out into a script.

It's not just sand. It's crime lords, smugglers, sand people, assassins, pirates, and all manner of criminals. Not to mention a burgeoning Empire setting up shop in the area. Stories abound! I can see even see a series in the mix. Kind of like the shelved Star Wars: Underworld which would have taken place on Coruscant. All we saw was bits of Mos Eisley and Mos Espa in the movies. There's a whole planet waiting to be explored and used with the right writers at the helm.

    That's just Tattoine with Obi-Wan.

Lots of other shadowports to take advantage of.

Considering the return of a certain villain in solo

I think you could have him be Kenobi’s protagonist

He finds out about Luke and Kenobi has to prevent him from kidnappong the kid

Unfortunately, Rebels canon has taken said villain out of the equation.

    Yes...and no.

Rebels had Obi-wan be old when he killed him.

Ewan hasn't aged that terribly much.

Besides, do you think Disney will let a cartoon get in the way of a rematch on the big screen?

Solo‘s final confrontation is set in 10 BBY.

Rebels is set from 5 BBY to 1 BBY.

Maul faced off against Obi-Wan for the final time in 2 BBY.

More than enough time for a lot of Maul-related material. I‘m not worried.
