Beru is "they", not "she", but otherwise, cool, this rocks. Keep making posts like this. Agree on the not w/w, but I wouldn't say never ever, mostly because I'm milquetoast.

Does the unaligned read mean that you have some kind of a read on Nego?

(Actually sleeping now. I'll probably move my vote in the morning to where I want to lynch for the day, depending on Kai and Beru and other things.)

Not picking up your meaning with the "contrary play" line. What're they doing this game that's contrary and how does it relate to their alignment if at all?

Level of awareness right now: I walked downstairs and the teapot was boiling and I don't remember turning on the burner.

    I may need the coffee.

    Thanks, Fonti.

I've got a question to people who usually play longer phase games.

Do you find yourself sculpting out how you want to play the game day in any more detail than "show up and post"? It's a feeling I get from a few players, mostly Eido and Newcomb, where goal 1 is to try to form their town core and goal 2 is to go forth to victory, and those are two distinct phases.

Sort of? I generally just feel out the thread for what I want to do, then start really looking for lynches about hslf way through the Day, if I haven't already done so.

I agree with Kai about Nego and Beru not being w/w.

Hmm, okay. I think in some other games it'd be thought of as short-sighted to not be trying to do both at the same time and coat the entire player list (like Reg's doing where I am now), so it seemed interesting to me that this approach doesn't factor in to why people have their scum reads on Newcomb/Eido/Regfan. But if it's relatively normal for pacing to work like that, that'd be why.

    Kind of.

Longer phase games have their ebbs and flows, for sure, and the distance between posts, the weight and volume of them, makes it so that just showing up and going with the flow sometimes just isn't a viable option.

In games like this, with a playerlist I'm mostly familiar with, I tend to pretty aggressively sort people, giving the fonti/Eido/Reg/Jans of the world a lot of wiggle room unless I have a very strong wolf read, giving people I perceive as having weak scumgames aggressive village reads if I get one, and kind of naturally shaking out to a group of nulls and weak scumreads. It's usually pretty clear about halfway through the Day that the lynch is going to fall on one of 3-5 people, and depending on how I feel about those people and which group they fall into, I'll ping-pong with my strong village reads about them.

I don't think you need a plan, per se, for games like this, but I do think you need to have your finger on the pulse of the thread and kind of have a heightened sense of how the thread is flowing, and adjust your play accordingly.

Oh, Jan did say he was "lacking the full view of Newcomb", so perhaps it's more people than I thought noticing.

I think the thing that's weirding insight into these folks' game plans is wanting to come into the game with a particular town core if at all possible, which is giving me that bi-phasal feeling, rather than having to form one more organically out of perhaps lesser-known people.

At points I feel like Jan and Fonti are speaking in terms I don't fully understand, such as the exchange ending here:
It boggles the mind when Jan was griping about the cliquey nature of the thread earlier, although he's made protest posts in other capacities so maybe it's just that. I understand this as Fonti scum reading Beru, but don't know what the last sentence means.

Didn’t have time to hop on before leaving the state after all. It’s been... hectic, to day the least. I’ll be here for like the next ? minutes. After that expect me close to EoD or not at all. I’ll try though.

It's like... as town Beru doesn't care what it is that mere mortals think about anything. If you're not on Beru's level then you're definitely not in Magical Beru Land.

As scum, I think there's a bit more care for other people, so you don't get plays like 'lynch eido cya'

Nothing to do with me. Jan was just jokingly calling beru a wolf, by implying they needed so to translate from wolf to english. The White Shepherd is a lovely dog belonging to a friend of his.

I don't quite get what you're saying with regards to scum reads on Newcomb, Eido and Reg.

Okay, did you share that read at that point in time? Wondering what you were doing by posting "awoo".

Three main pushes that come to mind are Gemma on Eido, Jan on Newcomb, and M Plus 7 on Eido, as well as some half-remembered reads lists I didn't note down (Vaimes', I think? Someone had all three in red.) where the substance of their reads are more on things like individual strange posts and post stylistics, rather than how they're approaching the game. The narrow focus Eido and Newcomb started out with (Reg was better about it, through his reading ISOs as he went) was something that pinged me, but didn't seem to matter to other people reading them. And now I know that it probably shouldn't be all that surprising.

Boy would it be fun to actually know some people in this game for reading parts of it, too, though.

I didn't, no. The awoo was a response to another thing, where Jan said he was asking a question for a friend, Beru asked if that friend was a wolf, Jan poked me, and I howled back. Banter things, they're mostly meaningless.

I don't think Gemma was really pushing on Eido or Jan was really pushing on Newcomb?

If no Gemma push exists on Eido, then Eido certainly got annoyed over nothing.

Jan definitely does not see town Newcomb in the 500s. They have a whole conversation about what flavor of a dumpster fire game Newcomb could be playing, which actually seems like it validates the lacking feeling Jan has while noticing the difference between this and last game.

For the first part, yeah, basically. She put some thoughts out against him, but it wasn't a push.

With the second, not being fully convinced someone is town is not the same thing as pushing on them, come on dude.

Does that really read like "not being fully convinced someone is town" to you? Why the whole song and dance between them then?

The only reason I see to not call it a push is because Jan seems to want Newcomb to live through the day this time out of deference, or something, thus no vote.

What the fudge is wrong with you people?

Are you not able to read context at all?

Ok I will show you a couple of posts in a spoiler .. maybe that helps you ..

    Long story short:
I had a convo with fonti where she didn't like the votes/pressure on bears.

I asked bears on the matter and said I was asking for a friend (which is most of the time just a thing I (and some friends) say but not in this case since fonti and I had talked about it before)

Bears asked if the friend is in wolfchat
    I asked fonti
    She said yes.
I smiled and moved on with my life.

If you don't care about me explaining a joke that nh and fonti didn't understand while fonti was apparently part of it .. move along.

Ok felt like that should be clarified .. there was very little inside baseball (outside the white shepherd which if you google it is just a giant beautiful dog that is kind of close to a wolf and that is all there is) to it. All context can be found in thread.
I was mostly making fun of fonti all along. As always.
