Warning: Graphic Violence. This story creeped me out. It was very well written. Harry is really creepy in this one.

Good little one-shot. Think it got niffled a couple months ago.

Left me wanting to see more of this bleak universe. Maybe I've read too much dark!fic because it didn't feel creepy, depressing, or saddening to me. Just a little POV of why parents don't fight wars, soliders do.

Worth a read though for sure.

It was an interesting little ficlet, but nothing to be all that creeped out about especially around here, that's like asking a surfer if lake ripples scare them.

Well you guys are better than me. I just imagined myself as a parent either Arthur or Lucius and getting a picture in the mail of your son being tortured. That was the part that creeped me out not the graphic violence.

Good read, though the underlying philosophy is highly disputable and depending on how you look it, highly offensive. At first, I'm like this fic's blaming the good guys/guy for acting in a tactically meanful way in a war? In the face of true evil, being wishy-washy about morals is what gets you screwed.

BUT, then I looked at it again and realized the DEs don't seem to be the rampaging rapists like most fics (considering genius Lucius left Draco in school), so maybe it was the good guys who escolated the conflict. So the lesson here is rather that one should be prepared to reap what one sowed.

He, I'm probably reading too much into this. But interesting food for thought. Really depends on how you look at this. Good vs. evil or one side fighting another side and doing what it thinks is best to maximize its of winning.

The sticking point for me was that Arthur didn't approve of the whole torture-Draco plan. As a father, he was the only one, who truly understood what they were doing. And he was the only one Malfoy Snr. could strike back at - eye for an eye...

Well, not really eye for an eye. Bill was killed as Draco was just tortured...alot. This was one of the few fics I've read where you couldn't tell the bad guys from the good.

    It was a good fic.

This was amusing. One of the better Harry Potter fic's I've read lately, even with it's shortness.

I liked it. Very thought provoking.
There wasn't much explicit violence, just implications of it, and the psychological warfare was done exceedingly well.
Its strange - I actually felt pity for Draco... I must be ill or something.
Harry on the other hand, was done very well. Just the kind of Harry i like.

Didn't want to finish it. I've read much worse, and I didn't need to see how far they would go. It's never pleasant to think that the heros can be just as evil as the villains. At least not when it comes to torturing "innocent" children. I think the author had a point, when we have everything to lose it's easy to escalate to that. But let's take this to a different level. What if Draco was an OOC, and he wasn't a little death eater in training, would the story change if he wasn't a bad person in the books. Should it even matter what type of person he is. Me, I think torture is never acceptable. When the hero succumbs to such levels can he really be called a hero. I doubt this opinion will be much supported here.

I support your thoughts, although I don't necessarily agree. You ask some very tough questions. I don't believe "yes" or "no" can begin to answer them. Still, in simplest terms, torture for fun is bad; torture of Snape is good.

What about breaking the fingers of a serial killer so he'll tell you where his latest yet-to-be-killed victim is? If anyone I knew was involved (as killer or victim), I wouldn't trust myself to 'extract the information' dispassionately. I'd leave it to the professionals.

Could canon!Harry start down this slippery slope? All too easily.

This fic ought to be moved to the Dark Arts section.

I loved it. And the Dark Harry. Moreover, it's thought-provoking - shows that there's no good or bad in war. 4.9/5

Great example of how, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

You know, in all those fics where Harry has somebody kidnapped that he dearly loves, he should do what Lucius Malfoy did.

This fic sure escalated the Weasley - Malfoy blood-feud. Maybe that's what started it in the first place.

But I disagree with Arthur's actions. Arthur should've sent Draco back under the Imperio with an enchantment to slowly kill Draco if it's discovered. In this story, Draco will take revenge after all that torture - it's in Arthur's best interest to kill a potential enemy and follower of Voldemort. Don't let feelings get in the way of rationality.

Like just about every fic in the library (at least current to March of this year) you can grab them all from the collected archive bornagainpenguin pieced together with help from others here.

But since this is just a short one-shot, I've zipped and attached the HTML for this fic taken right out of the DLP Recommends Archive.

Wow, just wow. This story left me wanting to read more. I enjoyed the writing, the bleakness of this universe, and it utterly felt like Harry was "dark" but yet doing everything that was necessary.

Easily a 5/5, a great one-shot gem that belongs in the Library.
