My 5, in no particular order:

    1) Ranma 1/2 - I've been collecting the manga slowly for a while now, and hopefully now all my other series are finished or caught up, I can speed up and get through them a lot faster. I'm finding it an utterly hilarious fandom to read, both canon and fanfic, plus the term 'Aquatranssexual' just sounds funny.

    2) Harry Potter - It's a good series, mostly, and there are some very well written fanfics out there, if you know where to look. The universe itself has room for interpretation, which I prefer in a fandom.

    3) Haibane Renmei - It is my favourite anime series, and I've seen quite a few people cite it as the best anime series out there. It is just perfect for in-depth discussion and the interpretation alone can last a long time. My one problem is the lack of fanfic or other fan material for it.

    4) Anita Blake - I've always been a fan of supernatural creatures, and the Anita Blake series has them coming out of the wazoo. It's a good series, that deals with some fairly adult issues at times, while still maintaing a lighter tone where necessary.

    5) Stargate SG1 - I've been reading SG1 fic for a while, it was probably one of the first fandoms I ever really read, and there are some very good stories there if you look closely. Neuropsych's Campers series in particular I find very enjoyable.

Honourable Mentions) Tenchi Muyo (first fanfic fandom ever), Firefly, Star Wars, His Dark Materials (oh, and Discworld, good point)

These are in no particular order, I don't have a favorite.

    1. Harry Potter - The books have down so many things for me. PS was the first book I ever read, and it is what gave me the intense love of literature that I now have. The Harry Potter books are also what first introduced me to the wonderful world of fanfiction, so I'll always have soft spot in my heart for them. They also have the most writers, which is nice.

    2. Anita Blake - The second fandom I ever became involved with, the Anita Blake books are similar to Harry Potter in that I think the auther has murdered the series. Despite that the orginal premise, and the first several books, were wonderful. I heartily enjoy the fanfiction that Anita Blake has spawned, and I love Anita Blake/ Harry Potter crossovers.

3 Artemis Fowl - Really a great childrens book that has so much potential. I enjoy every aspect of it, from pompous prick of a main character to decoding the little messages at the bottom. Each Artemis Fowl book ends brilliantly, and the lastest one has left me craving fanfiction spawned from it.

    4. Lord of the Rings - Deffinatly the most important work of fanasty in history. J.R.R. Tolkien defined and created the genure. Without him I don't know where it would be. He is an auther so prolific that everyone since him has been affected by his work, either they're imatting him or perposly trying to avoid it. The problem is that his books were just so good that no fanfiction has any hope of living up to the standards he set. His books are so good the fanfic can't compare.

    5. Terry Pratchett - A wonderful and witty writer. I take great pleasure in rereading his books. I've been reading him for years, and it is brilliant to gain a greater understanding of his books, and the jokes, every time I read them again. The number of refrenses he makes to other works is massive, so as I become more well read they become more of a pleasure.

Edit: I'm also rather fond of David Eddings, Underworld, and The Otherworld.

I feel envious of those who can easily choose only 5 favorite fandoms.

    Also in no particular order:

    Harry Potter
    Naruto
    Ranma 1/2
    Death Note
    Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu

If anyone actually cares about my favorites I have a list of them on my ff profile.

If I had to pick five I'd have to go with:

Harry Potter - I'd think it was obvious, considering the amount of time I spend on this site.

Stargate - Probably my most watched TV show below the Simpsons. I have every boxset on a shelf above my TV.

Heroes - My new obsession. Absolutely fucking amazing, I love this show almost as much as I love fanfiction. Its got to the point where I can't wait for Monday to come around so I can download it. (Sometimes I hate living in the UK)

Discworld Novels - My favourite books ever. I am only missing two books from my collection, because they aren't sold at Waterstones.

Top Gear - Just got in to it recently but its bloody hilarious. Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond are amazingly funny :D

    1. Harry Potter, recently I get back to read HP Fanfics. There are lots of good stories. And a good forum too ;)
    2. Naruto was the reason why I hadn't read any HP Fanfics for some time. It got me distracted for some time
    3. Bleach; just started but it seems interesting in some parts.
    4. Probably Star Wars, but more from the games(Kotor I and II), just found 1 good Fanfic for the movies, but it was abandoned
    5. Would say Stargate, 'cause I started watching the seasons, after some Fanfics got me interested and I have 2 Stargate Freaks as friends. If anyone knows a good DDL source for it send me a pm ;)

They actually now show it on Sci-Fi Channel in the UK, so if you know anyone with cable/sky you can get it.

My favorites like others in no particular order:

    1. Harry Potter - For the obvious reason's, and I like most of the wizard world. It was actually the only series that made me get internet at home. Plus Harry and Voldemort are very interesting characters.

    2. Angel the TV series/comic's. - Like the idea of Vampires that aren't a bunch of poets, more kick ass and less kiss ass.

    3. Terry Pratchett's discworld. Although it's incredibly hard to find good fic's.

    4. Stargate - Not Atlantis though. I just like the idea of all the twists to mythology, and the idea of the technology.

    5. Star Trek - The original to Enterprise. Always have been a mad Trekkie and proud owner of my very own Tribble. Not read that much fiction, as most tend to have Data slashing everything (and not in a horror way).
More of a convention goer, although I wasn't bad enough to learn Klingon lol.

This is difficult. There's a lot of stuff I'd like to read fanfiction of but it doesn't exist or does so in very small amounts(like the Warchild trilogy of books, or D.Gray-Man, or the manga/anime Monster), and then there's fandoms which most of the stuff I find in looks really really bad (as is my experience with The Outsiders fandom; it's horrific, not been able to find any good Black Cat fic either). So I'll go through fandoms I have experience in, and a lot of the places behind number one are for lack of better options. :\

    1. Harry Potter - a mass amount of stories so you can always find something you like. Sure, there's a load of crap, but enough good stories out there too.

    2. Death Note - okay, so the fandom has a disturbing amount of LxLight slash, but if you avoid that because it makes no sense, it isn't really so bad.

    3. Bleach - again, there's some amount of bad stuff, but it seems alright - well, mostly, as I stick to reading stories that don't so much center on Ichigo and co as with Hitsugaya, Matsumoto, Renji, Byakuya... you get the point; the Soul Society crew. I find them more interesting in fandom.

    4. Danny Phantom - okay, okay, don't laugh, but it's the only cartoon I can actually bear and the fandom isn't that bad. A bit confusing maybe, as episodes tend to air out of order... it has it's fair share of bad original characters, but you can generally tell from the summaries, and it does actually have some interesting stories (which I didn't expect when I first looked for fic...). Although it's a massively shippy fandom (sort of like Harry Potter; everyone seems to need to be shipped...) and there are some WTFesque pairings in there, it's not bad as fandoms go.

    5. Monster - I've thrown this in because the stories I've read are good. Sure, there are only about four of them in English on fanfiction.net, and some of them have a pairing I dislike because of the mass age difference, but it's GENERALLY good, although I've been unable to find any fic elsewhere. How so many people seem to rate this as one of the best anime and mangas ever and yet there be so little fanfic I don't know.

Honourable mention to Grim Fandango fandom...

    1. Harry Potter - No real need to mention why. ;)

    2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - the last two seasons were kind of eh, but Joss Wheedon (sp?) has a brilliant mind and it shows. Bloody funny too.

    3. Anita Blake - Vampires, werewolves, do I have to say anything else?

    4. LotR - It was the first fantasy series I ever read. I have to mention it. That goes without saying.

    5. The Abhorson series - Dunno if I spelled it right; I haven't read any fanfiction for this series and I don't think I will. I don't think I could stand to see these wonderful books mauled. Then again, I've borrowed heavily from this series for my own piece of fanfiction so...

    1. Harry Potter: I'm not gonna spend all my time repeating what everybody else has said.

    2. SG1: I mostly only really like this because there are some kick-ass HP/SG1's out there.

    3. Zelda: When I first began reading fanfiction (I started with hp of course), I read through them at a blazing pace, up to 6 100k stories a day. I exhausted the Harry Potter fandom really quickly (at the time fanfiction writing hadn't really kicked up yet). While waiting for some stories to update, I branched out into other areas, and Zelda grabbed my attention. There are some pretty good stories in there.

    4. Naruto: It kicks ass, 'nuff said.

    5. Resident Evil:... I'm a sadistic bastard who likes to watch and/or read about people kill zombies and vice versa.

I'v also encoutnerd some amusing Pong fanfiction, if this was my top 6, that would be #6

OMG OMG *does little fluster dance*

Isn't it grand! I didn't really get into until episode three, but my gods, that is a good show.

Where perchance might someone encounter fanfiction about it?

Yeah, I know but I've been following the US/Canada series, so I'm already 16 episodes in (soon to be 17 :D).

9thwonders.com is the fan site and its got a good bit of fanfiction. Not as good as the show, but acceptable none-the-less.

My five favorite fandoms? in no particular order:

1: Ah! My Goddess. Perhaps its full of crap fanfictions but the manga itself I genuinely enjoy. Cars, computers, girls, humor, and even a trekkie joke in one chapter. Much amusement.

2: Harry Potter, obviously. Of all the fandoms I've been a part of, this is the most active ive been in any community. The people, the level of skill some writers have, the series itself. Its just enthralling.

3: Bleach. Yeah yeah... laugh it up. Its one of the few fandoms I cant cleanse the fanboy in me of. I genuinely liked the manged. The anime is good too. I started bleach way back when it just started, when Manga-Rain had just started it, I think. Pity they died. Damned good group of people. *used to distro for Manga-rain. ... or was that Manga Underground?*

4: Naruto. Yeah. Vash is a narutard. >_> bah. get over it.

5: Discworld. I find them hilarious and absolutely fascinating.

As for Wheel of Time? I genuinely tried to read them. They're very well written and quite good, but I cant stand them. Too "dry" for me. It takes so LONG to get into them and if it doesnt catch my interest right away, then fuck it. It can be absolutely great in the middle, but im not going to trudge through piles of shit to get to the good part.

Death Note is good, but not something im going to write solely or go beyond the anime/manga. Most of its slashridden trash.

there are countless manga ive read and would recommend, and even more ive forgotten the name of. Airgear, Eyesheild 21, pretty face, midori no hibi, anything Snoopy Cool and Omanga do. Omanga's scanlation of Sky High is fucking pwnsome. check that out.

I can't say I have a specific favorite since I like all of them for different reasons, but here are the ones that have capivated me the most.

    1. Dragonlance - Raistlin is quite frankly the greatest dark wizard I've ever come across. What other wizard has been able to battle the gods themselves and win? He's brilliant, understands human nature intimately, and never underestimates an opponent, like so many villains do.

    2. LOTR - I love epics and his work has pretty much defined the fantasy genre as it is today.

    3. The Eternal Champion by Michael Moorcock - Another epic series which uses the concept of the Multiverse and the Eternal Champion as the balancer of power between Law and Chaos. Very interesting writing style.

    4. Ghost in the Shell (TV show, not the manga)- I'm not as much a sci-fi fan as I used to be, but this one is impressive. The drawing and coloring is splendid and the entire series is very mature and serious, not absurd or silly like other mangas. The characters are deep and well thought out as well.

    5. Harry Potter - I love the versatility of the world JKR has created. The books were good but quite frankly, I think some of the fanfictions out there are better then what she's written. Plus you can find almost any kind of HP story you could wish for.

Inuyasha holds a place in my heart, though it's more of my wife's thing. I too enjoyed the Anita Blake series. I've read the Wheel of Time but after the fifth book it just got too long and drawn out for my liking. Terry Goodkind is another excellent author but once again, he just drew his stories out a bit too long. Janny Wurt's Mistwraith series is another excellent series.

I'm so getting hazed for my five...[sigh]

    Harry potter- nuff said

Stargate - I refer you to my previous statement.

Kim Possible - for a cartoon she's Hot! Thats right I said it, plus the shows hilarious, the fan base kinda sucks but I've read some pretty damn good ones from this show.

Heroes - I only got into it at episode 8 and now I religiously scoure YouTube and Daily motion for the shows I miss because I'm in class.

Lonelygirl15 - This is where I start loosing rep and Mid will violate me with his banstick. Yes I know its fake, to those of you who so joyously like to point it out, I only found out about it after seeing ten or twenty YouTube complaints about how people were crushed to find out the girl wasn't real. Its as close to a internet soap opera as there can be... but God Damn it, its my crack. I just can't get enough.

either that or the Pendragon series, Its good in a hokey, fanfiction kinda way.

What can I say... I'm a dork [shrugs]

Wow...my five favorite fandoms...Let me see:

    1. Lord of the Rings: I love it. I love the depth of writing, the characters, the amazing locations. It's just amazing.

    2. Harry Potter: I probably wouldn't be here if I didn't like it.

    3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel: Although I prefer Angel over Buffy (esp. Buffy's last two seasons) I love both the shows. They were unique and extremely well written.

    4. Stargate SG-1: I love Atlantis too but this is the original. Hallowed are the Ori.

    5. Discworld novels: They are hilarous and they always have a underlying point in the end. I love it!

I also like Firefly, V for Vendetta, Death Note, and the Office (although I wouldn't read any fanfiction for it. Nothing can beat the actual writing on the show.)

Edit: Don't laugh but I also like Phantom of the Opera and West Wing. (Stop laughing or I'll burn your house down!!!!)

    1. Harry Potter: Cool people, cool fanfictions, and endless possibilities...

    2. Naruto: Demons, Ninjas, cool powers...

    3. Alex Rider: The Fandom is bad... one or two readable writers, but that's all... I will change it!

    4. Kim Possible: (yes, quazi, you aren't alone) Kim is stupid... I love reading fanfics where she realize this... and dies. Slowly.

    5. Artemis Fowl: He's a genius... and has so much potential to be evil.

Seems as if I love spies and cool powers...
