What's so fun about this game guys? Are there not better turn based anime games out there? Seems to be a complete money sink.

It is a money sink, but whether you enjoy it is subjective. Personally I enjoy it.

 

While the gacha and grinding aspects of FGO can be stupidly unfun at times, there is enjoyment to be found, both in the gameplay, the story/event content.

The trick to enjoying the actual gameplay is variety. Don't just roll through everything with the same handful of teams. Level every servant, even the weak ones, and deploy them all in ever changing combinations.

The story is only really going to hold your interest if you're a Fate fan. You'll get the meta jokes. You'll read the lore.

And on top of that there is always the draw of waifu/husbando collecting.

 

Having tried a few other turn based games, Bleach, Danmachi, OP, Granblue, FEH, I can say that to me none of them are nearly as enjoyable to play. Granblue is the only one that had actual good gameplay among those and it's endless grind there, while their story is quite weaker. FEH is meh, but has no story worth mentioning. Also, this game is actually only a money sink if you want to. Perfectly winnable without spending a cent unlike almost all other MOBAs I heard of.
