Watch them cast a white dude for the Emperor. Because that'll make sense.

I mean... if Pavetta is also 'BAME' as the casting call puts it, why would a white Emhyr be any sort of problem? Almost ALL of the physical traits we associate with 'race' are governed by polygenic inheritance (i.e. mixed race kids can come out looking like the mother, father, or anywhere in between depending on what gene combinations they get).

As much as I'd miss the ghost white hair and emerald green eyes combo that makes Ciri a top-tier hottie, as she is going to be a young teenager here, I ultimately won't really care who they cast so long as she can act.

I'm there too, same way I was when black Hermione happened. But man, this has all been worth it just to witness the reddit meltdown over it. :D

Black Hermione works quite well, though. It doesn't contradict anything in canon, and I like the understated nature of it - race isn't shoehorned in as a personality trait. I mean, it's safe to assume JKR didn't write her SI as being black, but that's the only piece which doesn't fit.

And I can't say I'm all that concerned by Ciri's casting. She's basically gonna be a child in this, AKA an annoying prop and plot device more than an actual character.

I would assume that's going to be the case since the TV Show is suppose to be about the early adventures of Geralt, but surprisingly enough the casting is for 15-16 years old actresses who can appear as 13-14 years old Ciri. Which is her age at the beginning of the Saga, not when she first met Geralt.

I suppose the biggest problem I have is what searching specifically for BAME actress may suggest (I wasn't even aware that there was a specific word to this kind of casting when you want anyone but a white person) in opposition to having one simply because she was the best in an audition. That more important than getting a good adaptation is doing it in a way to prove how "correct" the production team is. There may actually be quite few more changes if that's the case. Would explain the rumours I read somewhere, but can't find confirmation, that Sapkowski is out of this project despite initially being its consultant.

Yes, but his manner is more the lackadaisical one. An urbane playboy's. Geralt's has an edge.

Just finished Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. That show had no right to be as good as it was.

She can still have white hair and green eyes. A decent pair of contacts and a wig and you're good to go.

    Edit:
Holy shit dude, you weren't kidding. They're collectively flipping their shit

So the more I hear about this Witcher Ciri "controversy", the more I hope they cast the blackest, most African looking chick they can find just to give a middle finger to all the people bitching.

Edit: So according to another rumor, the whole thing was fake news and they're actually putting out casting calls for a native white polish woman to play Ciri.

I've been watching the first series of Wynonna Earp over the last week or so, and while I thought it would just be a fun bit of nonsense to have on in the background, I've actually really enjoyed it. Some good characters, great writing and a fairly compelling premise (Wyatt Earp's descendants are cursed to have to re-kill the 77 criminals Wyatt put down, as they return from hell generation after generation, and this time round greater shenanigans are afoot). It's not drama of the year or anything, but it's easily on a par with early, good Supernatural, for example.

Jack Ryan was a very nice series.

The Bodyguard though, that’s something else. Politics, action, emotional drama, and in typical british fashion it’s much, much more subtle than the most of the american production.

Anyone here watching "The Deuce"? It's on the second season now, and going pretty good. Stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco. It's a '70s period drama in New York and is all about the pimp/porn movie scene over there. One of the people behind it is David Simon, the guy who made The Wire. The first season was pretty tight: the second's coming along well right now. We're on S02E03 at the moment.

Still struggling to get over Starfire's outfit/direction, but this looks much better.

Its like when they introduced cell shading to video games. I just can't get over the visuals. I really don't like it.

The recent Manga-Anime-Netflix meme seems entirely appropriate here. Holy fuck Netflix is nothing sacred anymore.

It really is, the first show in a while where I've felt like I want to look up what's been used to listen to more.

Away from Wynonna Earp (just finished the second series, still good), I've just finished Killing Eve, which I highly recommend. It's about a psychopathic assassin and the MI5 agent trying to track her down, and it's a hell of a lot funnier than that makes it sound.

As horrible as Starfire's costuming continues to be, success of the character is ultimately going to come down to whether or not the actress can simultaneously pull off being a bubbly airhead, naive about all human and social customs, and a badass all at once. And who knows... maybe her terrible clothes will end up being a result of her obliviousness, which would be appropriate.

Right now I'm more concerned about Raven. Still not quite sure how they managed to misconstrue the 'controlled deadpan delivery hiding underlying mental clusterfuck' thing as 'overly-angsty emo teen'.

Beast-boy seems pretty good. But then again, majority comic relief rolls are not hard to nail down.

Robin is meh. They're clearly going with a typical grimdark Grayson origin story, and that's fine, if a bit bland.
