Yeah, that's confirmed. Although, not too much younger. It's set like a decade or two prior to the games' continuity.

 

If its only a decade or two prior to the games he should still have his facial scars. Should be before he was gutted with the pitchfork, though I'm not too clear on when he got the leg wound that messed with his swordsmanship. By the time Geralt is in the games he's pratically more scar tissue than skin, makes it difficult to really pinpoint when he should have the larger marks.

 

Also, just noticed the eyebrows. Wtf.

Looks more like Legolas trying out a new hair color than Geralt.

 

I don't think he has facial scars in the books, and that's 'technically' what they're basing this on, despite the popularity of the games being the only reason this series was greenlit.

 

I predict it will either be terrible, and will bomb and be cancelled after one season, or it'll be just mediocre enough to putter along with mediocre numbers. It has "get woke, go broke" written all over it.

I don't have too much expectations for this show, but the casting can only be judged once we at least have few scenes of their acting. What we should complain about is the horrible wig they gave to Calvin before it stops being just a "test make-up" and starts to be the main star of the show.

 

I don't see what's so terrible about either one of those.

 

Now, I haven't read the books, so I don't know canon. But the reasoning for protest goes as follows:

Lauren Hissrich said she wouldn't racebend and would stick to the source material. Apparently Triss' ethniticity (cough skin color cough) isn't explicitly mentioned in the books, although her hair and eyes are (chestnut hair in the English translation--we'd have to consult someone who read the original in Polish for certainty). And then there's the fact that Triss is a white redhead in the games, which have a huge influence on perceptions of fans (as do the HP movies, and Witcher books aren't anywhere near as popular as the games).

Basically, people are pissed that Triss is black and Yen looks younger than Triss, and this is being called out as recebending source material based on Poland-inspired settings, which, given that Poland is incredibly homogenous (read: mostly white) is a nod to wokeness and the show is being Americanized to cater to the US audience, which again is betraying source material. Example argument: "if Black Panther had been white, it would have been whitewashing, but this isn't blackwashing, it's diversity".

It's Black Hermione 2.0.

Lauren Hissrich, as far as I'm aware, hasn't responded and people are pissed and calling her a liar. Of course, I'm sure there are just as many people supporting this casting.

 

You are over dramatizing it, Triss really is the worst offender here, but its not as bad as it could be, Ciri and Geralt are both correct to canon. And Yen could be fixed with contacts, she isn't that far off her original skin tone.

 

I'm not overdramatizing anything. I don't have a horse in this race.

This is just comparing already established garbage with hypothesised garbage.

 

I'm too lazy to link everything, but there are also comparisons to Legolas, Lucius Malfoy, some guy Bob from some Twin Peaks thing, and Raiden from the first Mortal Kombat movie. The last one is my favorite.

 

I mean... she maybe has some mixed heritage, but that girl can pass as white pretty easily.

Yep. Like Rasheeda Jones. I know her father is Quincy Jones, and yet I think she's a white lady. I have to remind myself she is in fact a black woman.
