I found it after looking on the HP Fanfiction subreddit for recommended fics (the stuff of high-er quality, you know?), and saw a few people shitting on DLP in a comment thread. They said a bunch of things about the site being full of grammar nazis and demanding too much out of a fic.

To me, it sounded like heaven. Been here ever since!

I found a reddit post trashing DLP, and how they were so mean to authors; naturally, I had to find out what the fuss was about.

That's not entirely incorrect, but it's necessary to put some of them down so that readers can tell the difference between good fics and bad fics. I've been on Fanfiction for years and I found the C2.

That happens every now and then. We're not the villains they make us out to be. I'm the friendliest person you'll meet here.

To be fair DLP does trash a lot of terrible fics. It can come across as callous if the author doesn't know how seriously fanfics are taken here.

Yeah it was quite simple for me. I hate(d) the reddit community. I despised their love for tropes, muggles and mutual understanding, that Snape is just a misunderstood redeemed hot guy, who deserved better. I despised, that a pairing can justify bad plot and writing. And most importantly, that a bad story, idea or theory was not immediately blasted into pieces with reducto curses. Anyway a lot of them seemed to hate DLP, so naturally I had to check it out. Thus I never had to visit reddit again for HP fanfiction related stuff. Thanks a lot guys, you probably saved me from eye cancer.

I was lost at sea. Thankfully I was not alone. A grizzled old sailor with skin like tobacco leather and a tattoo mapping out shipping routes for every country he'd visited was washed overboard in the same storm that sent me over the rails. After days adrift on a spar of broken timber we landed on a desert island where we feasted on crab and palm dates. The food quickly ran out, and I ended up having to bash his skull in with a coconut when an argument broke out over whether to poach or scramble the last of our turtle eggs.

Long story short I boiled him into a hearty sea stew which helped to hold off the desperate pangs of hunger for a few more days. A particularly leathery piece of skin caught between my teeth: I fished it out of my mouth to see an overcooked flap of scrotum covered in faded blue ink.

    The map led here.

It’s less that fanfics are taken seriously and more that writing is. We just expect people to not be retarded.
