The latest captain marvel trailer I saw looked pretty good? Is there something about the movie I should know?

Mads Mikkelsen is god's gift to mankind and should be preserved for eternity.

So I watched the new Robin Hood movie and I have to say that despite my low expectations I am still somewhat disappointed. It has some nice action scenes but by god is the plot stupid, even for an action movie. And it isn't helped by the fact that Robin Hood (and honestly most of the cast) isn't exactly the most charismatic guy ether (and ironically enough the scenes I liked him the most in where when he played the "bad" guy).

Saw these a few weeks ago, but didn't comment: Bumblebee and The Favourite. Bumblebee was a testament to the value of likeable characters and coherent direction; not just the best Transformers film, which is an admittedly low bar, but a good, fun film by any measure.
The Favourite is an award winning period drama about machinations in the court of Queen Anne, and it's one of the funniest films I've seen in a while. And the filthiest. I kind of regretted seeing it with my parents, although they also thoroughly enjoyed it.

Anyone going to watch The Kid Who Would Be King? I'm incredibly interested, since it looks like a Harry Potteris take on King Arthur. A lot of promising actors too

I can't make up my mind. I've seen a lot of positive early comments, and it's a good team in front and behind the camera, but the trailer hasn't thrilled me.

I went to see Glass earlier, and I'd recommend it, but only if you've seen Unbreakable and Split (it probably does work alright if you haven't seen them, but it'll be at its best if you have, and they're good films in their own right). Good performances all round, some very interesting ideas, which make me really want to write/see a version of it with Marvel or DC, and a quality script. Not perfect, but worth a watch.

The twist ending with the secret society was...mixed. I like it as a concept, and if there were to be further films in the series it would be great, but as it is, it basically comes out of nowhere about fifteen minutes before the credits. Still one of Shyamalen's better twists, of the ones I know about at least.

Wait up, just noticed on Wikipedia that Bumblebee isn't directed by Mediocre Bay. This piques my interest.

Opened up Netflix on a whim, and saw the start of the trailer for it, had no idea what it was about, and just watched it. I was honestly expecting some kind of arctic survival film haha.

I enjoyed it a lot. The tone was really interesting, one half of the film was so bleak, the other half so over the top and bright, and it was the opposite parts that you'd normally expect to be so. It definitely tried to differentiate itself from similar previous films.

I really enjoyed Mads performance, and the supporting cast were great as well. I'd also say that the audio really stood out to me, nothing complex, but a lot of really effective transitions with sound.

I really enjoyed the whole PTSD angle, and how the MC was not made out to be a heroic badass without any issues. He's still a badass, but especially the reveal at the end makes it so much different to what you'd normally expect from a guy rescues girl kinda thing. Though I kinda wish she had shot him, just for the shock value.

On that note, I also really appreciated the subtlety with the girl being captured near the end, lots of words, no gratuitous action. That's actually something that happened quite a lot. There were a few other parts where there was an obvious source of tension, usually relatively cringe worthy, and then the movie just completely bypasses it. I really appreciated that, almost stopped a few times as I thought it was going to dwell on that kinda stuff.

Oh, and that dog scene at the start. That was... great and terrible. A clear reference to John Wick.

Polar was pretty great. Pretty far from a generic action movie. I'd say it's like that 2016 movie 'Mr Right' crossed with 'John Wick'. Some great absurd moments. Innomine isn't wrong about the tone making a pretty swift lane change though.

    Watched.

    Enjoyed it greatly.

Polar has 2019s best hallway fight scene so far this year.

I consider Polar pretty unappealing and felt dirty watching it. It's completely soulless. Not a movie I would ever watch again.

    P.S. I enjoyed John Wick a lot.

I mean... it was just John Wick but less serious and with even more ridiculous killing. I was entertained for what it was.

I applaud both Mads and Keanu for making their acting careers successful with nothing but deadpan stares and a specific lack of acting.

Honestly, that’s what I liked about it. It was realistically dirty. It made you question what was being done, while kinda being on his side.

Not the normal glorification of violence we see. Well no, one half was, the other half not. Just the opposite of what we’d normally see. At no time were we under the delusion that Mads was morally correct in what he did.

Can i ask, where did these meme-y love of Mads come from? Is it Death Stranding based? Hannibal?

I feel like he became a cult figure out of nowhere. I'd never heard of him before Casino Royale...

Hannibal is excellant, and he's great in it, but I definitely think it was his role as Le Chiffre that really made him a knowable face and started getting him bigger parts in films outside of Europe.

Le Chiffre is easily in my top 5 Bond villains.

Excuse you. Say what you want about Keanu's acting, but claiming the same about Mikkelsen is a huge stretch, as is the comparison between their styles.
    Also, shut your whore mouth.
