Er, I have to put in an

    OFF-TOPIC ALERT!

Has anyone else been bothered that the title of this thread is "Dodgeing vs. Shields" where it should be "Dodging vs. Shields"?

I would actually go so far as to say it should be "Dodging vs. Shielding" or "Dodges vs. Shields," preferably the former.

As I see the thread is still here so I´d like to put some ideas on the table.

-Is a joe6991 scale battle even likely when a couple of schoolboys can turn a corridor into a swamp? And whats DPLs take on other such magical devices?

-On the combat part. Has anyone else noticed the lack of collateral damage in ficks where Voldemort and Harry/Dumbledore duel in the middle of a crowd?

-Reading some of the answers (especially Thalarian and Wetnurse) I´d like to rephrase my original ether/or question:
How near would the opponent be for it to be impossible to do either? (Still operating under the assumption that spells move around the speed of a thrown ball)

On the side note, using badminton in constructing a duel would make one helluva fight.

PS: to any admin happening by. Change the title to "Dodging vs. Shielding" or just "Dodging and Shielding", works as well by now.

I like to believe that wizards use whatever is easier to use at the moment. As I operate on the belief that wizards have a finite store of magic that recharges (they tire as they get low), I like to think that experienced wizards only shield if they have to - a handy way of conserving magic.
