    That was... cute?

I figure it feels like a draft because it is one. It's not published is it? Just a bonus from Butcher available online? I'm fine with it feeling rough in spots if so. I really felt it when discussing Peace Talks - he was obviously being vague on details, probably because heavier spoilers.

Wish a few more authors threw us a bone like this. But this isn't a full story, it's fluff. That's fine.

Pretty much what Ched said. It was cute and didn't seem like it was super polished. Strikes as some random plot bunny he just decided to pursue and then post. Seems like a fuckton of people are about to die. It's kinda telling that Murphy wasn't there with him. I suspect she may be one of the casualties.

Dresden's comments suggest that whatever event, maybe a battle, happened during the peace talks, affected a mortal population. I doubt there is any faction that can easily call "tens of thousands" humans to be involved.

Lara maybe, if she were to roll a natural 20 on her barding skills. Seems more like fallout from the battle itself, yeah.

Well, it was nice to see *something* after so long. Maybe it's just desperation on my part, but him putting this out makes me think he has finally finished Peace Talks, or at least a draft or two. Maybe?

Most of times the government doesn't get involved with Dresden in the books, but it's a good question which supernatural faction has the biggest influence over major political leaders.

Don't despair. Just finish the book, Jim. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if previous world leaders have been ensnared by various creatures. Nixon springs to mind as someone who had his mind whammied and became increasingly paranoid as a result.

Lara has someone high up in the US Navy in her pocket, at the very least.

Interesting. There's an update on his website about progress, posted on Dec 27th it appears. It's mostly stuff fans have guessed, but it's good to get official confirmation it's being written and some progress. Says it's up to chapter 39 right now. I can't recall how long the other books were and have no copies immediately at hand, but that sounds like it would be close to the end.

Yeah, I'm really interested to see how this is gonna end up after the what... 5 year haitus? Sadly, I've lost most of my enthusiasm for the series. I'm not sure how much I'll go back and reread at this point.

I've been so disappointed by the last few books that Peace Talks is basically the last hurrah. One more chance to redeem the series before I put it down.

I really enjoyed the books when they first came out. But I found that when rereading the whole series, I just got bored after Changes. Skin Game was perhaps the best return to form, but even then...

My thoughts exactly. I’d completely forgotten about it until this update and I’m not feeling much beyond “eh, okay.”

I haven't tried re-reading the whole series yet, but I suppose I'll pretty much end up thinking the same thing, based on what I remember. Ghost Story was a major turn-off.

I don't know that I could sit down and read all the books again. I have been listening to the audio books while I run though and I might just skip Ghost Story.

I think the last few books have been hit and miss for most. Butcher may have seen this himself, and taken a few years off to let his Dresden field lie fallow. I'm hoping he comes back strong.

My major problem with rereading the series is the first few books, which, to be frank, are just uncomfortably bad.

The part of the problem with the quality of the series is that it lost its momentum. Sure, the last books could be better, but as long as the next ones were published quite quickly, you simply focused on what may happen next.

Now that the wait is a lot longer, you have plenty of time to complain about the last one at first and then simply lose all the excitement for the next.
