I would be more than willing to go see a brand new spy movie with an original premise and a female lead. Because why not?!

Atomic Blonde was mentioned before, that was an amazing movie. I think I'm going to rewatch it today. Also, the Black Widow movie is coming up soon, it'll be cool I bet.

Btw, despite all this, it makes me smile whenever a change like this pisses off the folks at 4chan's /tv/ board. Look:

 

00 spinoffs would be a fantastic idea. I'd go see those in a heartbeat. Especially if they had more of a Bond film feel. All due respect to Atomic Blonde and the like, but they're just not as good.

His point is that making 007 a black woman is silly and obvious pandering with no meaningful substance. That's really about it.

 

I still would have preferred a Father to long lost daughter pass off if they wanted to go female 007 route. Bond would finally get a family, he shows his daughter the ropes of secret agenting for his last movie, he dies tragically at the end of the film. Daughter takes over the role and still gets to be 'Bond. FemaleJ-Name Bond'.

 

That would actually be pretty sweet if they did it right.

 

They could easily use the same girl too. She's a little old, but I could handwave that with a "Bond had a kid when he was 20."

Yeah, I could totally see it. That hadn't even occurred to me, but a proper passing of the torch thing would be fantastic. They're never gonna do it, but it would be the best way to handle such a thing IMO.

The best James Bond movie of the last decade was Kingsman.

 

The mantle inheritance trope has been around since the dawn of action hero fiction. Logan did it well, but they sure as shit didn't originate it.

 

Hell, it's pissed off the /r/JamesBond subreddit, too. And of course it's trending on twitter.

I suspect all of the discussion/outrage around it will be disproportional to what actually happens in the movie.

 

I expect there won't be any mention of Bond at all. Just a generic spy movie with a girl taking the moniker of 007. Probably something like "Alias". JJ Abrams doesn't have anything to do with this does he?
