We still easily could have something similar. Last we heard of Mandalore was pre ANH. Bo-Katan has the Darksaber and is uniting the Houses under her rule to liberate the planet. Everything after that is a huge blank.

It would be freaking awesome if the main character is like running away from another civil war between the Houses. Hell he could be a Kryze and directly related to Satine or Bo-Katan (and maybe Obi-Wan hue hue hue).

 

Not a fan of the clunky, awkward look and walk they gave the MC.

 

I like the design a lot tbh. Like Boba, it seems like he's got several mismatched pieces, staying true to Lucas' original concept of the "bounty hunter living rough in the outer rim" aesthetic. It's a lot more hodgepodge than your standard Death Watch supercommando armor, which along with the red (honoring a parent) color, makes me think he inherited the Mando beskar plates and then threw together the rest from durasteel.

I don't think you need to worry. George Lucas retconned Boba and Jango's assumed Mandalorian heritage in Clone wars. They just wear the armor.

Oh boy. You haven't heard this shit? Okay, first and foremost, listen to this podcast with Filoni.

TLDL:

In Legends, Jango is from a planet system in the Mandalore Sector called Concord Dawn. The thing is, you can live in the Mandalore Sector and not really truly be "Mandalorian". It's both a genetic and cultural thing. Being Mandalorian basically means you're a member of a Mandalorian House / Faction, and/or you are descended from a Mandalorian Clan. You can join / be adopted into these groups though, and then you are basically considered to be Mandalorian through and through. Jango is adopted after his family dies, and at this point, he's Mandalorian. Eventually, he rises to the top to become the Mand'alor.

In Canon (Clone Wars), as you hear at the start of the clip, Obi Wan and Prime Minister Almec are discussing Jango. Almec basically dismisses Jango as a pretender to the Mandalorian name and says who knows where he got his armor etc etc. This scene was only included entirely because Lucas was adamant that Jango was not a true Mandalorian. It's also why Jango's armor in the movies is supposed to be all durasteel and no beskar, and why no canon source has ever verified the claim that he was born on Concord Dawn.

Filoni actually does a pretty decent job of treading the middle-ground between what Legends built up and what George wanted. His personal philosophy is that maybe Jango could still have trained with or been adopted by a Mandalorian faction, and that Almec, who is a smug douche that wilfully denies the continued existence of Death Watch even though they're chillin all over, simply may not see this as counting toward real 'Mandalorian' status.

 

Christ, every time I find a bit of forgiveness in my heart for Lucas, I learn something new.

 

The trailer looks good, which is a problem because I have no intention on paying for Disney+. Bah.

Holy shit, I hadn't looked at the full cast list in a while. Bill Burr, Ming-Na Wen, and Natalia Tena have all shown up on there since the last time.

 

Just read that some series (original ones?) will not be streamed at once but weekly. Oh boy, guess they really want you to keep paying rather than just unsubscribing after a month.

I could do this, but then I'd have to cut some other activity down.

It's just a headache all around, choosing what you want to spend your time on. And people wonder why fans get mad at shows/creators/directors. If I spend my very limited free time on something, I want it to be worthwile and entertaining. It's why I've quit watching TV almost completely. So many shows just disappoint.

Of course I'm to blame too. I've gotten a lot pickier about what I like. The downside to getting older maybe. ;-)

 

Alternatively, wait til they finish airing then subscribe, binge and unsubscribe.

Man, everything new I see about this show makes me want to watch it more. I'd thought my star wars fandom had withered away in the face of the movies' awfulness, but it still lives on I guess, cuz I need to see this show.
