Somehow, I'd prefer to see Harry die. Losing his magical powers would be much worse for him. Not that I think that it'll actually happen.

 

Sadly, the cannon Harry Potter is probably the only Wizard who could care less about his powers. All he's wanted his whole life (and we know this because JK has subtly been bludgeoning our brains with it for 10 years) is a family and a normal life. That doesn't necessarily include the use of magic.

So for anyone else, the loss of magic would be unbearable. For Harry it would probably be a relief as long as all of his 'family' was out of danger.

That said, if he does lose his magic, all you have to do to write a fanfiction is put one of his friends in trouble, and then he'll go find some magic. Yay!

Still, I hope he ends up more powerful than less powerful after the book is over. All that hard work killing Voldemort should pay off.

 

I see, muggle harry captures magical people with his fame and drains the magic back into himself with a powerful magical artifact or a cheap dime store trinket.

 

I'd go with the dime store trinket. You never know what you can find in a dime store. Just last week...

This ending could spawn so many different fanfictions, it could also mean that somebody with decent writing abilities could have an easy option to turn harry into a magic-sucking fiend.

I agree with Averis...Considering how much JKR's been pushing how Harry only wants to be normal, I think it's quite plausible this could happen.

Aw, who am I kidding? We all know that Harry will marry Ginny and have enough kids to blow whatever money his parents left him until they're as poor as the Weasleys. Ron and Hermione will get married and have a very stable marriage based on having nothing in common and arguing all the time. Dumbledore will be back, Snape will be redeemed, Draco will be redeemed, Hagrid and maybe McGonnagall will die. We'll all puke...

 

The real problem for fanfiction post book seven is likely to be the final chapter of DH. My impression, from some interview I read a long time ago, is the last chapter is an American Graffiti/Animal House epilogue where she lays out what happens to all the surviving characters in the future. I can't imagine anything that would constrain fanfiction more than that. I think she'll insist on having the final say on what happens in her world.

 

Had an idea like that the other day when I read this thread. So much potential in that.

 

Rowling is going to have one hell of a time explaining how a wizard can lose his powers. Nothing else has any explanation, like portkeys, wards etc. I'll be very annoyed if she just slips it in without explanation.

Then, having said that, I dont believe that is how it will end. I think Harry will live, and flee the magical world instead.

 

I agree completely. If she were to take Harry's powers with some bs like when he gets with an Avada Kedavra he took all of his power and reflected it back on Voldemort... that would be teh ghay.

And I do believe Harry will retain his powers and get as far away from the Wizarding World as possible under the circumstances. Try to escape the limelight. Either that or she'll make him a Hogwarts teacher in the future.

 

Yes, but look at the number of people who happily ignore HBP. Some final chapter in which JKR reveals everyone's future will only inspire people to change those futures. We will prevail.

I have seen the future and it is horrible.

If Harry lost his powers then people would make him the wizarding equivalent of Batman. After all, he's rich, he's an orphan, his parents were killed by a criminal. He can use that money to buy/develope/invent more magical doohickeys than you could shake a stick at. Obviously he couldn't call himself Batman, as bats wouldn't scare his target group of evildoers, the purebloods. Thus he would call himself by a name that would inspire terror into all pureblood hearts, the Mudblood. Eventually God could come down from on high full of vengeance and raining down the fire and brimstone (he's the old testament God) and he would reach into his Bottomless Belt and pull out the appropriate Mud-doodad to vanquish him.

It even has built in cliches like super!inventor!Twins, super!genius!Hermione, super!powerful!Ginny, super!cool!Bill (with amazing Egyptian powerz), super!animal!handler!Charlie (the dragon rider), and Sidekick!Ron (my predjudices are showing). They can band together and form the League of Justice and be superfriends.

On the far side of the fangirl spectrum the slash would go through the roof, as the poor, magicless, battered Harry would be nursed back to health (physical or mental) by the loving Draco or Snape. Or even Draco and Snape. He would then become their man-wife and end up having their man-babies in his man-womb before popping them out his man-anus and making a big, happy, pureblood man-family.
