I live very close to everything I need regularly and I quite enjoy driving. I think if you lived on a continent it’d be one thing, but Voldemort’s flight over the channel means that I’d still need my passport to do any globe hopping. Rather just get rich and a jet (sorry Greta).

A single, all-purpose cleaning spell would be worth all but a year of my life.

 

My first thought was the extension charm (at last a handbag big enough to hold everything! Backpacking with a simple handbag! A house big enough to invite the whole family for the Christmas party!)

But teleportation would be amazing (all the places you could see and a good safety measure to get you out of dangerous situations)

From a practical point of view I feel the duplicating charm would be the best. You'll never be hungry as soon as you can have at least a little food. You'll always have decent clothes as soon as you remember to duplicate them before they are used... of course it doesn't gives you variety but still.

(Would that be stealing to go in shops and duplicate clothes to get a free wardrobe?)

 

From a practical perspective to make yourself a better life, Imperio or Legilimens would be the way to go I think.

Apparation would be good, but if you had either of the first two you have enough money that taking time to travel doesn't matter any more.

But more a "I want to be a good, moral, upstanding citizen" perspective (where's the fun in that!) perhaps a charm that ensures you get a night of restful sleep? Or a healing charm of some sort perhaps. Be super handy any time you cut yourself or strain a muscle etc to just wave your hand and be healed.

 

Using imperio would make feel bad (taking free will from people is repulsive to me) I would use it with good intentions at first, but I am sure that i would end up on a power trip and become the kind of person I do not want to be.

I don't think Legilimens would make me very happy. Seeing all the bad, annoying, hypocritical thoughts of people would make one very cynical and disgusted of humanity pretty quickly. I certainly have a lot of thoughts that are unkind or horrible without acting on them!

 

I suppose that would come down to how you see legilimency working. Do you see everything in the minds of everyone around you without control, or can you flit into a mind and find specific information with a reasonable degree of control (at least, after sufficient practice).

 

Well even if you don't see everythinh, knowing what people think in some circumstances doesn't guarantee that they will act like you want or in your favour or decently or however you want them to act... I don't know maybe because I am a private introvert I don't see that kind of ability making me happy. It would certainly be useful m, if I wanted to deal more with people to... lead them in the direction I would like. But... seems just too much work that I wouldn't enjoy. I could imagine other people using it well and liking it though... it's just not for me at all.

 

In this day and age, thousands of people spend insane amounts of money on fake love potions or amulets and magical remedies. So it is not really a theoretical question, and it gives you a clue about what people would do if magic was real.

You could include religions, too, btw. Happy eternal life, and all that jazz.

 

I'd definitely choose Imperio and I'd literally give an arm and a leg, let alone something so trivial like money; that spell would be beyond wealth. If you used it right, say built a small army of people loyal to you, some very wealthy, others in key positions to deal with the consequences of your actions if they were ever found out, and spread whatever wealth you get around enough key people, while also using all the wealthy people's stolen wealth to better the poor in your chosen area of influence, building your own personal empire would be do able within 3 years tops.

 

I would give Voldemort all of my stashed candies for a Horcrux.

 

It all depends on what you most want. A ton of money? Ruling the world? Banning @Arthellion ?

I personally am torn between the imperious and apparition, but at the end of the day it’s probably safer to pick the imperious. Accomplishing your goals from the safety of anonymity is easily the preferable choice, and with the imperious you can do so.

Even if you can apparate, you still can get sniped when you aren’t expecting it. The same goes for using any flashy spell that calls attention.
