Hello. I am writing a fic where ~7 years old Harry is transported to the past (no, not the time of the Founders and definitely not the time of Marauders).

The problem is I am not very knowledgable in the ways of travelling through time that are not cliche. If you have any ideas about how Harry, who knows that he can do magic but doesn't know how to control it, can be sent back in time, please tell me.

 

Backfiring spells can't be used because there is no one to cast the spell that could backfire. Harry knows that he can somehow disappear from a dead end and appear on the roof of his school. He doesn't know how he did that.

Malfunctioning Time Turner is not usable too, because there is no one to give the Time Turner to Harry.

 

While thinking about Surarrin's idea I had a problem. If Harry from the future took 7 year old self 200 hundred years back, and then after 200 hundred years this 207 years old Harry did not take his 7 years old Harry back, what would happen?

Anyways it does not really suit the plot of the story...

BTW, does anyone know what day of the year could somehow mystically convert an accidental apparition into a travel back in time?

 

An idea I have banging around in my head for a fic is that Harry Potter
disappeared from the face of the earth at the end of one summer, and
in the future, the Order tries to bring him back from wherever.
Only for Harry to eventually realize that they pulled him out
of time in the first place.

Such a cross-switch could be used.

Other than that... you've got your standard time travel methods: spell (intended), spell (accidental), magical backlash, magical explosion, potion, technology, Fate and/or God(s), uber cool timemage!harry powers, hole in the time-space fabric of reality, and my personal favorite... "it was in the script".

I'd go with the wooden rabbit if I were you.

The wooden rabbit has magical powers.

But in all seriousness, I suggest you go with Time Turners. After all, Muggles always seem to come across magical things. Maybe one found a time turner, but threw it out when it didn't seem to work. They could have used it as a egg timer. But Harry could have found it, and used on the day that Britain turns it's clocks back an hour.

You can have wizards/witches do it for some magical reason, which propels Harry into the past. And there is a strict law against using Time Turners on the days that we change the clock.

Or, it could be on one of the solcites (or however it's spelled).

 

There is a super-secret muggle military faction that is experimenting with time travel. The only problem is that everyone they send back dies. However, they have now found a child with a connection to some unknown energy, so they try it with him.

Dun dun duuuuuuun!

 

Step 1: Build Giant Wooden Rabbit
Step 2: Place time travelers inside the Rabbit
Step 3: Find a French-infested castle and place Rabbit outside
Step 4: Wait for the French to capture the Rabbit
Step 5: Wait for the French to catapult the Rabbit back in time.
Step 6: Should this plan fail, attempt using a Giant Wooden Badger.

Hmm. Where have I heard this plot device before.

 

How about Harry is running from Dudders and company and trying to get back to #4 in advance of a thunderstorm. He tries that disappearing thing, like where he ended up on the roof before, but is struck by lightning while attempting this.

Injured 7yr old Harry essentially teleports to the past. Harry + Apparating + Lightning Bolt = Flux Capacitor?
