Great chapter. Sincerly enjoyed the last arc and am looking forward to seeing what you do with this one. Unsettling seeing Jon like that but it makes sense there are consequences.

Hoping for more character interaction once he gets his head back on straight and more exploration of the world.

Like anything else there are gems inside the muck. Case in point I just read this: https://archiveofourown.org/works/16692202/chapters/39147316

Surprised me, far better then I thought it would be. A unique premise that stayed pretty true to the spirit of the books I found. Not library worthy maybe, but I enjoyed reading it. Plenty of interesting asoiaf stuff if you dig.

Oh yes, Jon is a hot mess right now. He's gonna need some serious help getting his head on straight, and then re-contextualizing himself. That's, uh... Gonna be really fun for me. legitimately. I'm very excited to get to the climax of Life Six. It's going to morph the War of Five Kings in a way that I don't think I've ever seen before. And then the spiral downwards to form the basis of Life Seven... ooooh. It's going to hurt in a delicious way. I'm very excited to get to work.

Cool, I'll give that a look.

Still think Life and Honor is the best ASOIAF story I've ever seen. Haven't been reading in that universe that long, but it's still excellent.

I do like that one! Some of my favorites...that I’m sure are floating on this forum....https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12302583/1/A-Clash-of-Kings-Knees-Falling and https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11605215/1/

The second is the best lotr asoiaf crossover in my book.

If you like self inserts there’s a ton of those of varying quality... including one written by me. I think that sub genre isn’t for everyone though

Touche. There are a few but not a ton. I rather liked one called the House of Elendil, for all it had its problems plot wise. It was still entertaining to read. Which is basically that when Numenor goes Elendil et all go to westeros and carve out a kingdom in the north. Theres a few others. One where Arya winds up in the LOTR lands that was meh but readable. One I recall where the children of the forest were elves that never left middle earth. But not a ton.

I'd go further though and say that was one of the better ASOIAF (or LOTR) crossovers period though if that helps!

There are a ton... but i suppose in part it depends what you're looking for in an SI. Like personally I hate the tech uplift stuff im more into the ripples and politics. So there's a bunch of 'classic' ones I dont get into but that are immensely popular. But lets see. Some of the ones I've liked more:

    https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/the-bastard-of-highgarden-asoiaf-si.746704/

https://forums.spacebattles.com/thr...guide-to-not-dying-horribly-asoiaf-si.559933/ (currently being rewritten dont have the link to that)

    https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/asoiaf-si-a-trident-is-reforged.621622/

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13330432/1/Salt-Breaker (more a crossover, but imo percy reads rather like an SI)

If you don't mind self promotion: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12875401/1/A-Fish-Out-of-Water-ASOIAF-SI or https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13217925/1/A-Giant-Among-Wolves-ASOIAF-SIOC

Theres a bunch of others i like, but most of them dont look like they have been updated in the last six months.

Tbh, I’ve basically gotten to the point where I avoid anything with Arya as a major focus because of how the fandom treats her character. The “super smart super capable badass girl way ahead of her time” schtick isn’t really fun to read even once, letalone literally everywhere.

You can blame Dumb and Dumber for that interpretation - the people who read the books know she's much more of an allegory for civilians who are caught up in brutal wars instead of a badass. The Faceless Men are explicitly a metaphor for psychological disassociation in relation to murder.

This and she’s an almost perfect foil for Sansa. Really helps throw Sansa throughout the entire series into stark relief.

Having once more scoured the depths of AH in search of the elusive legible asoiaf fic, I think I may have found one, but it’s too early to say for sure and what the author did in Braavos has me worried. It’s an AU centred around Aegon the Unworthy, decent technical writing relative to what passes for writing on that forum if rough around the edges early on, the plot is still setting up.

    https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/the-unworthy-asoiaf-au.476766/

So have my standards fallen too low waiting for the few good ones to update or does this actually look promising?

Is AH really that bad? or is it just high standards here? I don't know what the reputations of any of the various FF forums and websites are.

There is some decent content on AH but the community is incredible adverse to criticism of any kind, which doesn't make for quality.

The biggest problem with AH is that the story comes second to the world building in many cases. That said, there are still a number of solid stories to be found there.

Cool. Because as I recall, Summer Crowns came out of AH, and I fucking loved that story. I'm probably gonna steal some of the ideas that story came up with and use them for my own nefarious purposes, so I was more than a little curious if that was somehow a one-off or not.

There’s plenty of good stuff on AH. Perfidious Albion, for example has stuff that is top tier quality in both the story and technical side. But those are the gems. The vast majority is absolute bottom tier shit. Take CaekDaemon, his ideas are cool, but he can’t write for shit and never improves or takes any criticism well.

That said, isn’t summer crowns that one where Bobby B and Ned go to essos? Not a bad read, IIRC, but I really couldn’t get past the scene of Brandon banishing Ned for some nebulous reason.
