The show does a remarkable job with the transition in medium. There’s some loss in depth of the character and faction motivations, but overall it’s pretty spectacular.

Amazon has also confirmed their order for Season 5 and has begun casting for it.

I watched The Expanse while I was laid up with a broken leg, and was left with the rare impression that each season was somehow actually better than the last. I'm excited that there's more coming, but it's a hard act to follow. It's bound to lag in quality at some point, which is understandable, but I've had too many beloved media franchises go off the rails lately not to be a bit raw about it.

*Whoops that came out more pessimistic than I intended. I'm like 95% excited, 5% worried.

Season 4 dropped today. I am three episodes in already, and I have to say, this show is looking pretty damn good under the new management.

So far, the best part has been Ghost!Miller and Holden.

He and Avasarala are the best parts of the books (book 4 in particular for Ghost!Miller). They cast Avasarala really well, but she lost a lot of her punch when TV moderated her language.

I haven’t seen the new episodes yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

I didn't watch season 2 and 3 but know what happened in them, but binged season 4 yesterday. Honestly it was great, I was surprised by how entertained I was watching it. Avasarala was great, I was kind of bored with her storyline this season, but I liked that we got an avasarala using foul language and not just a bit of tame swearing.

At first Bobby's storyline took me a bit out of it, it felt out of character at first, but the longer it went on, the more I could buy it. And honestly I liked what it showed of Mars.

And as other have said Ghost Miller was the best part of this season, he was phenomenal. Honestly everything just looked good and the plot was solid. There wasn't a single episode throughout the entire season where I was bored. To top it all off the CGI and cinematography was great, in my opinion it all just looked really good, even the parts in space.

Like I said, I read book one. Didn't think going further would be worth it.

Watched the whole set in a mass binge Thursday night. It's visually beautiful and a great adaptation of the novel, even with some of the secondary characters dropped or switched out. The additional material around Bobbie Draper, Drummer & Ashford, and Avasarala were all threaded components and background material from the next novel and a novella, which was a good choice.

The real question for me is whether dropping the whole season at once was a good play.

I watched the rest of season 4 today. It was really good, stuck really close to the book. I really, really enjoyed it.

I’m half way through S3 on the rewatch. Does this cover all of book 4, or just half?

It covers the entirety of Cibola Burn, and the last scenes are the beginning of Nemesis Games.

I just finished watching season 4, and it might be the best season of them all. They seem to have benefited greatly from being picked up by Amazon.
It has been a while since I saw the rest of the seasons, I only rewatched the last episode of season 3 before starting season 4.
But going from what I remember of the rest:
    • The CGI has improved.
    • The dialog has improved.
    • The acting even seems to have improved.
    • I never really felt bored, which I did at times in the other seasons.
It's not perfect, but it is pretty damn good.

Oof. This sound like a good thing, but unfortunately this likely means they're not going to follow the last two books in the series. I understand they probably don't want to address the time skip due to real life actors, but I'm sad we won't see everything the books have to offer.

Still, the show got a second chance at life and this should have a satisfying conclusion.

I'm instead hoping it means that they'll be making the next two books into one season. And then two seasons for the last two books.

I found books 5&6 to be lacklustre at best.

I realised I had my book numbers slightly off. What I'm saying is that I don't think they'll address books seven, eight or the yet to be released nine. Everything to do with the verse post time skip.

Checking IMDB, the last episode of season five is called Nemesis Games, so named after book five. The show is mixing plot lines from the books a bit, but I expect that season five will cover book five and ditto for six. It's a logical point to end things.

As for the books, I'd need a reread but I enjoyed them enough. They were, at the very least, bold plotlines that lead into the greater stakes of the rest of the series. I imagine Amazon will fudge the ending to tie things up, and maybe just hint at plotlines for the rest of the series incase they ever decide to do something with the rights.
