    '84 - and we didn't have cable/satellite/anything beyond basic channels until I was almost a teenager, so I didn't see many things that were on Nickolodeon or Cartoon Network unless I was visiting friends.

    One of my fondest cartoon memories is Sonic SatAM. I didn't find out 'til years later that it was based on an Archie comic, which in hindsight explained why it seemed to have such good worldbuilding and plot (EDIT: According to Wikipedia I got this backwards and the comic was based on the cartoon?!). But essentially Sonic & co. are all Freedom Fighters and Robitnik would do shit like kidnap your Uncle and turn him into a robot and make him forget who you are and try to murder you (this constituted the height of suspense for me at 9-10 years old). Loved this show. Here's the opening:


    I was also a huge fan of DuckTales. I'm sure you're all familiar with that one. I've watched some of the reboot and have also enjoyed it, though I'm only about 4 episodes in. Scrooge McDuck is a badass. There's a good comic with him somewhere as well, though it's been years and years since I read it. Here's an extended version of the old intro:


    I also watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield, Gargoyles, Tiny Toon Adventures, Super Mario Bros Super Show, TaleSpin, ReBoot, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, Bonkers, Goof Troop, Pound Puppies, and ... well, a bunch of other stuff that I'm sure I've forgotten.

    Gummi Bears, Doug, Thundercats, Rugrats, etc. were ones I remember my friends having but that we didn't have the right channels for. Dexter's Lab came out when I was a teenager I think and I never watched it, so probably the same for other cartoons from the latter-half of the 90s.

    Only show my parents ever forbid me from watching was the Simpsons.

    Going to post a more comprehensive list of shows later, but I want to be the first to mention Biker Mice from Mars. That was such a great show when I was a kid. (Born 1991, show started like 1993?).

    On topic, 1988.

    I was always more of a live action kid (the original Power Rangers was legit), but I did catch a bunch of stuff on Cartoon Network and Toonami. DBZ was a big one, I really liked the Roadrunner cartoons, Recess was cool. Otherwise... Sharky and George. I can still sing the theme tune from memory.

    While all of you were waiting for your Hogwarts Letters, I was waiting for my invitation to joing the KND and fight against Adult Tyranny.

    One of the best animated movies I'd ever seen (Operation Z.E.R.O) and one of the best finales I'd seen as well.

    One of the main aspects of my Original Novel is actually based on a big part of KND.

    If we’d had MTV probably would have been the same. By the time we did have it I wasn’t interested in watching shows like this (Simpson’s, Futurama, Beavis, South Park, etc.)

    I’ll watch them now if a particular episode is recommended but never followed any of them.

    Like @Ched, one of my favorite cartoons was Sonic. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog that is!


    This was the chili dog eating Sonic where Robitnik built stupid and goofy robots. This was way more comedic than the SATAM cartoon.

    My other favs was the first TMNT cartoon and the Fox stuff: Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Simpsons and countless more.

    I have wayback memories of Rugrats. Ed, Edd, and Eddy was probably my favorite and I have super vague memories of Tom and Jerry coming on at 7:30 before bed on Cartoon Network.

    I have more concrete memories of saturday mornings during the golden days of Kids WB. OG pokemon episodes at 7 AM. The Mummy animated series after that. Cubix on at 9, but I remember nothing of it but the name. Jackie Chan Adventures (Jackie and Viper OTP btw). The newest Yu-Gi-Oh at 10 and newest Pokemon at 10:30. MUCHA LUCHA. Static Shock!     I watched a lot of gameshows on challenge, not just cartoons:
    Jungle Run (ITV, I think)
    Fort Boyard (back when it was adults)
    Crystal Maze reruns
    Gladiators
    There was a weird ice skating one, but I have no idea what it was called. Similar to Gladiators, but on ice.

    Also, The Mighty Beetleborgs, although I've only just found out the name recently.

    There was also a Starship Troopers show, and I'd get up early to watch that.

    And, of course, Robot Wars.

    That younger edgier Ghostbusters show

    Then during my early teen years it was all about the Toonami shows, which introduced me to anime proper.

    Teens to young adulthood was basically all anime, ATLA, and South Park.
