Hey Waco! What are your current reads? Do you have anything you want to talk about to me?
    --- Post automerged ---
I'll have to re-read after catch-up and get back to you, it's too far out of my memory now. My apologies.
    --- Post automerged ---
I will not be doing a catch-up post this time in the interest of allowing more time for realtime and/or quick ISOing.

No, I didn't really feel like it was especially ingratiating or not ingratiating yesterday. Today... the general tone of your throwing reads out there, telling Tom you were watching anime (#dumbreads), and your conversation with Sloth - you outright say that you're not playing to get townread, but I also don't really get the impression that you're filtering what you say to appeal, either.

It's like, the opposite of what tom has been saying about MP7. Which could just be a personality thing, but in this situation I feel like you would get more utility out of tailoring your answers more?

If you don't want to catch-up post then can we get any impressions you have on the game off the top of your head?

Sure, what exactly would be the most helpful? I typically post a bunch of replies as I'm catching up, but that seems superfluous here and I'll get dicked by auto-merge a million times. I might just do that anyway.

Ok. Do you have any other thoughts on other players? And why not a vote if you're that comfortable with lynching Miner?

I'm still reasonably comfortable with my 3 top town. I'm trying to get a read on some of the slots that haven't had a lot of content (Osi, Fluff, FiRhand, Sera). I'm kinda convinced if I can find a couple of towns in there I can get down to a POE that should lock the game down.

I am going to try and go back over EoD at work if I have time. Would you mind taking a look at Keldeo during that section so we can compare notes? Also, where on you on Fluffiness? I know low activity is kind of his thing, but combined with these "pressure votes we're saying are pressure votes," thing today, I'm.... well I don't really know what I am other then its making me wary for some reason

I'm really trying to wrap my head around it all still -- but my natural reaction to the Cuth/Miner/tom conversation about grape and about stress in the game and other stuff is that generally speaking it looks good for all of them. If there has to be scum there, I hesitate to have a good inclination as to who it is without relying on priors. Conversely, I do feel that conversation probably most shifted Cuth in a positive direction, actually.

Also, my personal opinion on the stressful thing is that being town and scum are both very emotionally investing for me on a spectrum of extremely enjoyable to extremely stressful completely dependent on game circumstance. The type of stress is different, but I don't think one stresses me out inherently more than the other, so I find the differing opinions there fascinating.

Really? I find it intriguing that this isn't the first time someone has said this about me and yet I still don't fully understand how players who are new to me get this impression from my playstyle. Why is it that you're getting that impression from me?

I mean you're saying d1 was too far back to remember, so any thoughts of more recent stuff? idk I'm just looking for stuff off the top of your head.

OK, but how is this different from yesterDay? What made you think anything I've posted toDay is townier than yesterday?

For reference, yesterday I threw out reads on fire and Grape, outright told people to lynch me, and while I didn't say I watched anime yesterDay, I certainly did.

    @The Waco Kid
can you link me your most recent readslist? Either I'm blind or I'm blind.

I'll just proceed with posting random reactions that I think are notable as I catch up, lol.

Hmm. Umami spent most of yesterday pingponging around the not-"top town" tiers of my reads list. I liked her tone in her responses to fonti early on, and what those responses meant wrt the rest of her play, though I got paranoid briefly that she and fonti were w/w for that, or that she was just a wolf having a good first wolfgame and tailoring her self-meta to make us townread her. I didn't like how she got stuck on the gun thing, it felt a bit like she was scrabbling for content / something to call wolfy.

When I reread her exchange with tom where people thought she was TMIing him, I had this like moment of realization where I was able to like... construct a model of her actions as town that made sense with what she had posted. When I was away from the thread the day of EOD, I kept thinking on what grape had said in response about fewer assumptions for the mafia world, and I realized that I had kind of been projecting my own playstyle onto her - like, the post about her making up two worlds was me making up two worlds about her. So that combined with her being the only viable CW to Miner when I got back and my impulse to not let Miner get shruglynched meant I wanted to at least see where the wagon went, and possibly keep it a real vote, because her % probability of being scum was rising. I was kinda struggling to process what she did during the EOD (struggling to catch up rather than outright struggling for her life) as coming from either alignment, so it was more like... does she expect to survive? Why does she expect to survive - does she think she'll be saved?

idk if that's understandable or answers your question, let me know if you want more

As effective as if I'd given him a naked vote, been asked why, and said the same as I did in my original post. It turns into a real vote if I go back over him and am convinced to make it one, anyway.

Not really, besides the generic "being present and being content to not have a super big effect". But I'm under the impression that's within both his ranges. Haven't looked back at anyone's d1 play yet.

Sloth, can you walk me through your progression on both Umami and Miner leading up to EOD and during EOD itself? Did you just swap onto Umami in the end because you didn't think that Miner would go through?

Have to go, will do stuff when I get back.

It's back @ 408 so a little old but basically at tom->->grape->sloth right now (I haven't had a chance to look over rhand's case post in detail yet)

    @thread

Case fluff if you want him to do stuff. Naked votes have, in my experience, done jack all to him.
    --- Post automerged ---
But you're saying that, rhand's case notwithstanding, tom, grape, and sloth are still top townreads?

I'm sorry? What could you possibly be looking for out of this question?
    --- Post automerged ---
Seriously, why. How. Explain. Stating something as a fact like this is irritating. It's also unnecessary.

Honestly, my emotional state in this game is still pretty shitty even after stepping away for a while, so I don't know what to even do.

I can't even cheerlead myself right now. Perhaps I've been away from the game for too long. I forgot how emotionally draining this is.

Yeah pretty much. Think the reasoning for tom & grape is in my D2 content. Sloth read is D1 legacy mostly, as I have been focused on other things so far D2 (and and hoping to get to EoD review with time at work tonight)

Yep, already remembering why I took a couple years off.

Off to work. Ping me with any questions

"Most likely to have shot GH" is speculative at best, meaningless WIFOM analysis at worst. I also know my only defense is WIFOM, but if I have any say in my scum team's kills, I don't kill the player I would be by far the most excited to play with on Night 1. 100% not my style. Also, why is me being nervous in interacting with people AI? I'm nervous AF when I play these games.

I don't understand the point about hyper-awareness, can you re-word?

I never said that I was 100% following your lead, I liked what you had written about certain posts (one of them most notably, which I highlighted), and it was in mostly ISOing on my own that I really began to head into a tunnel where I didn't like her. I had no thoughts on the association with Miner; I don't do pre-associative reads anymore, as I suck at them.

What is the point of this? I had only read 150 posts and at the time didn't have the free time to read more, so I posted my reads. I didn't say it was amazing analysis or anything, so why would you say that?
    --- Post automerged ---
This is far from the first time someone has said this about the way I play the game. I sort of wish it weren't true, because I sort of hate that I constantly have to deal with the fact that I'm potentially a more easily manipulated player because of it. It's just how I am as a person, if there's one strong point I actually have it's that given effort from both sides I can relatively easily understand where someone is coming from. Coupled with my anxiety and manic re-evaluations, I therefore have a tendency to constantly ping pong around based on whatever or whoever is influencing my current judgment. That isn't to say I don't have my own opinions, although I've been accused of that often enough over 10 years of playing as well.

If this is what Cuth was referring to as "crowd-pleasing", then I better understand it now.
    --- Post automerged ---
I now understand the Carson Daly thing, so thank you. Lol.

Why wouldn't the reads be that way?

The second statement makes sense to me, because I have a much harder time coming up with scum reads in general in mafia games, especially early on when there is less data, and whenever I do it can often tend to be "dogpee", when I find something(s) that make me really start going at someone. For me it's naturally easier to find the good in people, so I start struggling if I feel like the player list is full of townies.

I have no idea if any of this helps, but I wanted to post it just in case it does even in the smallest possible way. I hate that my catch-up as been so self-focused, but when I have things to say about other players, I will. I'm trying to work from ground zero and a good part of that means I'll unfortunately have to go digging once I've caught up.
    --- Post automerged ---
I probably should have spoilered those quoted posts, my bad. I'll do that going forward.

I guess it would be more accurate to say that your play yesterday didn't come across as especially "ingratiating in an AI way" or "not ingratiating in an AI way" to me. I think you could have been similarly defeatist / "idgaf" subbing into a hard position as either alignment, but that attitude now feels more AI to me based on the difference between toDay and yesterDay, which I talked about in the first paragraph of the original post. I don't know if that answers your question?

Just rambling more about myself because that's always fun, and frankly I can't be emotionally or mentally bothered to be making reads right now...

My favorite thing about mafia when I'm town is working with other town. I'm in my best capacity somewhere between full-on town leader and support. I don't feel like I'm particularly great, especially until mid-to-late game where I shine more, without other town players keeping me grounded, giving me their input, etc.

I have to feel like I'm a part of a functional towncore to feel at my best and most productive, typically anyway, because of my natural tendencies as a person and as such as a player when I have no information.

I unfortunately feel like the only player I was able to connect with in any meaningful way is now dead, and I also yelled at someone in all caps and mislynched them, so I can't help but feel like shit right now. I thought going away from the game for a while and approaching everything with a fresh perspective would fix that, especially after having a lot of fun doing other non-mafia things yesterday, but apparently not -- at least not for now.

Like, it's not that your attitude in this particular aspect has changed and that makes it towny. The fact that your attitude hasn't changed is what feels towny to me.

One of the things I take most pride in is my effort and my ability to cheerlead the thread, and somehow I can't find either of them.
