The first fic that came to mind was The Lesser Sadness, but, well, let's just say it's been longer than I thought.

I loosely follow a few ongoing stories in WbA, but that's about it to be honest. I haven't actively searched for or read fanfiction (outside of this board) in a while.

 

Well, this is a list. Realistically, there are probably hundreds of stories that fit the description given, but these are the one's I'm most interested in.

There are quite a few older fics that I wouldn't hesitate to read a new chapter immediately (like The Shadow of Angmar by Steelbadger) but I doubt there's a new update coming anytime soon.

Besides that I follow some Original Fiction such as A Practical Guide to Evil and The Wandering Inn, but I guess that's off-topic.

 

I love Dreaming of Sunshine and the Prince of Slytherin though I wonder when they'll be completed. It's probably gonna take a couple of years.

 

There are probably a dozen or two stories I would immediately read an update to if one was posted, but the only one that comes to mind that I have any expectation of being updated regularly is The Futile Facade by murkybluematter, of the Pureblood Pretense/Rigel Black series. It's a sorta crossover/sorta AU thing, with a helping of fem!Harry on top. It's fairly well written (although the first fic was rejected from the Library, I do think her writing has gotten better) not entirely predictable, and I usually enjoy reading through the entire chapters she posts, in spite of them being 20k+ words.

Edit: Also anything Halt writes. And Steelbadgers fics, new and old.

When fics don't get an update for a few years I end up kicking them off the list so I don't have anything I'd need to start over with. Then there are the ones I don't bother waiting for alerts since I'll read them in WbA such as Love Sick and Written in Reverse by Menace, and Nightfall by Inert.

And I would drop everything I was doing in a heartbeat to read a new update for Shezza's Life in Konoha's ANBU.

I've just finished the latest of Harry Potter and the International Triwizard Tournament & it seems to have improved - I distinctly recall ditching previously.

 

I actually love starting over with fics to catch up to the update. I often do that even when I remember the previous chapters.
