Dude, Dune is trippy and disturbing but it has moments and scenes that resonate, like the Gom Gabbar.

The worst that I've seen is Howard the Duck.

 

Best is hard to qualify. There are so many iconic 80s movies that I love to pieces that aren't exactly "high cinema" --- Ferris Bueller, Ghostbusters, Star Wars: ESB, Goonies, Breakfast Club, Raiders, Princess Bride, Back to the Future, Bill and Ted, Labyrinth, Spaceballs to name a few.

If we're talking about masterpieces of filmmaking, then maybe either Blade Runner or The Shining?

Worst = probably Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, the 80s equivalent of Step Up 2 and the literal namesake of the " ______ 2: Electric Boogaloo" needless sequel jibe.

That said, if we're counting 1990, then Troll 2. Easily up there in my list of worst films ever made, although it did spawn one of my favorite memes.

 

Best: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Worst: Dirty Dancing. Fuck that fucking movie, and my wife that loves it.

 

Best off the top of my head: Die Hard, The Untouchables, Scarface, Predator

Not actually the worst because the actual worst don't stay in my mind long enough to be relevant, but movies I despise anyway: Blade Runner (liked the sequel though).

 

I have zero desire to watch Patrick Swayze grind on some chick so never watched it. The previews were dumb enough.

 

Jurassic park has to be on the best list imo.

 

No, it definitely should not, because it is a 90s movie.

Worst: It's a toss up between Superman IV and Ishtar.

Best: Aliens, Breakfast Club, John Carpenter's: The Thing, and Diehard.

 

Cannot believe no one has mentioned Top Gun yet.

 

Doesn't make my list of 'movies I watched more than ten times in my life, no doubt because I was waiting for the MCU without even knowing it would come'.

 

Film that I love the most: Empire Strikes Back

Film that astounded me with its awfulness: Highlander (although I did still rather enjoy it)

 

Top Gun is the Fast and Furious of the 80s. Literally a bro fist bump made into a movie. It's fun, but I wouldn't put it in any of my greatest hits lists.

 

You can hate on Dirty Dancing all you want, but I’ll always love it for Jerry Orbach. Finding out that Lennie Brisco from Law and Order was a Broadway song and dance man was very trippy to a young CrackedMind.

People have said a lot of good answers so I’m going to throw out my favorite b movie as a suggestion: Bloodsport. It’s cheesy, but it’s Van Damme at his greatest and the fighting is top notch. (No stunt doubles, just actual top fighters duking it out)

Worst is Maximum Overdrive. Stephen King in his directing debut. Did so much coke during it that he barely remembers directing.

Machines/cars come to life and try to kill everyone, stars Emilio Estevez right around his breakfast club days, and is soundtracked by AC/DC. Is somehow still godawful. Not in a fun way, either. The first 10 minutes and the music throughout are great, but then it’s just an hour plus slog.

 

I'd have to go with either Alien or Aliens, depending on if I want horror or action, for best film.

Worst I'm not sure on because I rarely struggle through films I'm not enjoying.

 

Well since it's 80s movies it would have to be Aliens, since Alien came out in 1979

 

Well damn, didn't realise it was quite that old. I tend to think of it as an 80s film because it fits the aesthetic well, but it was probably a trend setter that a bunch of other films copied in that case.
