Uh, didn't they do that in like literally the last book?

Well, yes, but that was also Nicodemus 'genocide is just another Tuesday', who was leading it. It also didn't end well for him as most of his power base was destroyed.

I'm hoping that we get a bit more insight into the red courts place in the broader world (that is being filled up by others now) in this book, I wonder if despite being major players they weren't as powerful as a lot of the other larger nastier beings/organizations around. I think that might inform how much others actually fear Dresden, most other things that he's run into (on the 'street' level at least) tend to be terrified of him lately. It's the older nastier things that tend to not care.

I wouldn't mind seeing some reminders of Dresden's reputation in the wider supernatural community. I vaguely remember someone a few books ago mentioning that he was considered quite a scary guy or something along those lines?

That's before he destroyed an entire supernatural community.

The peace talks are probably the best moment to introduce readers and Harry to any major players or groups that are active, but for one reason or another haven't showed up in Chicago for him to have an adventure about them. As Mab's representative right now he's on a level when he should stop being surprised by simply meeting someone who is a big power like Hades in the last book.

Ok, so, I finally picked up Brief Cases. In Cold Case this comes up with Carlos and Molly.

Paraphrasing a bit since I'm on mobile.

So apparently this is taught to most apprentices right as they finish training. It's not clear to me whether they're actually outsiders or what. The feeding on humans knowledge of them is clearly a reference to the oblivion war. It might be that these aren't mutually exclusive things?

If mods are ok with it I can take a pic of the page in question.

It was Molly, in Ghost Story.
There was also the scene on the dock in Turn Coat, when he realized that the veteran Wardens McCoy and Ancient Mai had bought along were actually nervous about the idea of throwing down- because they didn't actually know him, all they knew was the Boogeyman they'd been working themselves up over ever since he killed DuMorne.

We can definitely put down any inconsistencies to Dresden being an unreliable narrator.

The original post of this was lost when Butcher's forums went the way of the dodo, but this has been one of my favorite depictions of the Council's perspective on Dresden for years.

    Cool, thanks.

It is and it puts things into perspective. But a bunch of that just isn't stuff the council would know too though. They don't know about his contact with Uriel or that he has / had the swords for instance or about his access to soulfire, which was related to his resisting the denarians (he would have lost his head if they'd known he had laschiels coin).

There's pretty much no way to be sure what the council actually knows. They have their own spies remember.

After reading this chapter, I was struck with the possibility of Murphy striking a deal/becoming indebted to one of the many big players that'll be in town, so that she could be healed, and even perhaps more so she can keep up with Dresden?

Rudolph the Brown-Nosed Cop-cop returns, and is going after Murphy. I am sure this ends well for him. As for who's pulling his reigns right now, I doubt it's Marcone, that would be the kind of dumb he just isn't. Lara though...

Honestly @Psychotic Cat I'm betting on whoever has those reins being someone we haven't really tangled with significantly before. Your idea is the obvious one as another major, known power in the area. Too obvious, methinks.
