I've no problem with there being more stores/launchers. I don't think anyone really cares about that. Bring on the competition, but Epic imo is doing it wrong.

They buy the exclusive year, (which I think annoys a lot of people), and then when the year is up and the game comes to steam/etc. a lot of the people that may have jumped on it early are kinda over it.

Like in my case? I was totally ready to jump on Borderlands 3, but I dislike being 'forced' to use EGS so I didn't get it. A year passed, it came to steam, and I've moved on and found other games. At this point I may get it if/when it goes on sale for 75% off, because the story's been spoilered all over the place by now.


IMO Epic would be better off doing exclusive free cosmetic DLC's and stuff, rather than buying a year of exclusive. People love free DLC.

 

Why should I concern myself with how much money they earn? Should I buy other games that I'm not interested in because the devs aren't getting as much as money as they thought they would? Why is it selfish if I'm looking out for my best interest as a consumer rather than a company or a group of people that I have never, nor most likely will ever, meet? And like I said, I don't view Steam or any digital storefront favorably, they basically take away the games as a product and make them almost into a service. It's all gone downhill since then.

Why do so many people think that being against storefront exclusives means that I must favor one of the others then?

Anyone remember when you just bought a physical disc, installed the game and fired it up without having to be online? It wasn't even that long ago.

Not that digital distribution ain't convenient, because it is, but what if I just want to play singleplayer and don't need to stream or chat with friends? Can Steam/Origin/Uplay/GOG/Epic Store et al just fuck off and let me launch the game without going through their wannabe social media app? No? Okay.

 

These days, even if you get a physical disk, it still has to download multiple gigs before it's playable. :-(

I never played any of the Borderlands games to begin with, never really saw anything that appealed to me. But yeah, I heard the game fared pretty poorly. What exactly did they fuck up so much that their fanbase started shitting all over them?

The main problem with borderlands 3 is that they tried to capture the lightning in a bottle that was handsome Jack a second time and failed absolutely miserably. The writing was just atrocious, and given how everything else is pretty generic and uninteresting, it made the game as a whole quite a bit less interesting.

 

Yas. Good to know it's Drake. The lack of Tim in the animated movies was disheartening considering his fanbase.

 

I feel you there. I'm not a fan of how the animated movies have been sidelining Drake in favor of Damian. I don't have anything against Damian (especially since he checked his attitude) but I wanna see more of my boy Nightwing.

 

Most of those Bat-brat designs are meh to godawful (looking at you, wearing-my-Dad's-shirt Robin), but at least Red Hood looks great.

 

Did you ever play the DLC? @Jon and I played the Handsome Jack casino thing and it was honestly the most garbage piece of shit in the entire game.

Imagine being forced to stop Borderlands-ing to listen to god awful and glacial expository dialogue that you couldn't ignore, because the door to the next area is locked until it's finished. It often took up to 5 minutes to finish, no joke. That's the entire thing. I was so angry while playing, we never finished it.

 

I haven't played any of the DLC. I finished the main campaign, nodded, went "Yup, that was pretty shit", and then never touched it again.

I liked the design of the beastmaster guy, the class was a ton of fun to play and there was definitely some fun to be had there, but the Calypsos were physically painful to listen to and the overall writing was just so atrociously bad. Borderlands has never been great on the writing front, but the previous games were at least entertaining. 3 was just solid gameplay with so much awful shit on top of it that I couldn't take it.

 

I played as whatsherface, with the magic and the abs.

It was decently fun one punch manning through the game, when the game could get out of its own way, that is.

 

Mortal Shell is painful. And not in a fun way.

Though that has a lot to do with me being the wrong kind of player for this game's intended play style. Everything in this game comes down to timing -- when to harden, when to use your Tarnished Seal -- and that has never, ever been my strong suit. I'm more of a dodge roll kind of guy. That is an option here, but the devs clearly want you to use their fancy new hardening mechanic. It reminds me of Sekiro in that sense; if you didn't learn deflection, you were up the river without a paddle.

I'm torn. I really dig the presentation and the care that went into this labor of love, but I don't know if I will ever come back to it. I can only run face first into the brick wall so many times before I pick up my teeth and go home.

Maybe Hellpoint will be more my speed. I picked it up along with Mortal Shell as a two-for-one gift to myself. I haven't even touched the game yet, but I love the sci-fi aesthetic. Maybe the more straightforward character progression will suit me.

Black Myth: Wukong looks really great. It's a pre-Alpha release, and made mostly to drum up attention and interest - weirdly enough, not from customers and investors, but developers, since the company making it are very small and need more talent, specially foreigner I bet.

I'm quite skeptical of the game because (1) it's a Chinese company, (2) they are very small, (3) this is a hype trailer. But from what I've seen this a passion project of theirs, they've been working on it for years, and was one of the main reasons the company was formed 5 years ago, and did repeat that they didn't want fans orders now/investors as they're secure in that front and etc, which isn't something a scam is gonna do. So I'm gonna be hopeful.

The CEO of the company specially, but the company in general, sucks at PRing so I hope they change that as well.

To anyone who doesn't know, Black Myth Wukong is a Dark Soul-esque game based on the Chinese Classic Journey to the West, its full of references to the classic, but it's not going to be about the JttW itself, since the game is happening after the events of the story. Here's the 13 minutes gameplay video. The company itself is only 30 people big, and were initially just a bunch of developers dissatisfied with their original employer (gaming giant TENCENT) and left after disagreements with how their project there, a JttW MMORPG, should go. 5 years and 2 mobile games later, here we are.
