Adding to Taure's tirade, I'd like to point out that magic is multi-paradigm in this, but Harry is primarily exposed to Petri's reductionist view. Voldemort, the Yaxley family, et al. clearly each have different means of achieving results in magic than Petri's methodology.

Take Voldemort's teaching of the conjunctivitis curse. Hairy cast that spell without understanding it, and too much understanding shook his faith in his own ability to perform once it was explained. Voldemort went on to claim that curses were often initially made by the pure desire to have magic do something, and the how was unimportant. The formalization of a spell did not necessitate understanding how it worked.

So, there's more likely than not more than one approach to magic. Bottom-up, top-down, outside-in. Who knows? We can only hope that we can see where the other systems come from, go, or are used as the story progressed.

 

Fucking utterly, completely, undeniably magnificent. It could tie in perfectly to @Taure's dope ass dungeon crawl of a restricted section.

 

Nice story with the ghosts and Joachim's response was interesting. Also, in chapter 47 the scene with Trelawney is really well executed!

 

This story just cracks me up. The way Harry experimentally captures a ghost and poor Hannah and Neville are just ...wtf.

Some fics few are more ambitious, some fics are more polished. But this story is just such an unprecedented combination of ambition and polish and sheer fun. Cauchy gives no fucks and I love it.

 

I hope Harry becomes a cultivator and spends the next century in a cave cultivating and opening his meridians or something. Then he comes back, vastly more powerful and obliterates Voldemort.

The chapter was pretty interesting though. More AU elements with the book, Voldemort and Dumbledore's non-killing declaration. Keeps the mystery going!

 

I love how strange this Harry is, his first thought at seeing someone grieving is thinking their cursed.
It's always a delight to read a good Dumbledore, plus all these little drops of world building are great.
I'm not sure I like Vince and Neville, but Hannah has been a good moral character to Harry.

 

I don't think I've ever really found such a good Dumbledore (apart from Victoria Potter) in any fanfiction.

 

Considering I've been on a xianxia kick for something like a year now this most recent chapter hit a bit too close to home. It's too bad that having read reverend insanity the rest of cultivation novels are dead to me.

 

I'll have to read Victoria Potter. The fem!Harry trope is something I struggle to enjoy.

I remember LOVING the Dumbledore in the sequel to 'The Accidental Horcrux'. Probably my all-time favourite. Him and a really unexpected character had this huge interesting/academic conversation in his office towards one of the last several chapters.

As always, I find the author's way of portraying magic as fascinating. This story is easily one of my favorites in terms of capturing the magical feeling that fanfics should have. I also love that the author is making Harry more and more like Petri in his mannerisms and the way he thinks, it's very realistic and satisfying.

 

Man, the author really has a way of describing the magical world.
I'm really enjoying his take on magical shopping streets. Moon boots!

Chapter 53 is out (where the bot at?) and holy shit.

So you know the feeling when you read something so intense, once you finish everything feels a little paler in comparison? I'm getting that now.

Cauchy is continuing his "give no fucks" approach to storytelling. He opens things up with a fucking amputation, then casually throws away the Fidelius just to raise the stakes. I thought Harry was going to get a sick marionette hand, but no — he's getting Wormtail's hand. Technically the same as in canon, but it feels so much more horrifying from Harry's perspective.

As the very best authors do, classic canon devices have been reshaped and reinvented. The description of Dumbledore's curse and Wormtail's hand is straight out of the books, but they're being used so much more effectively here. Voldemort is still a powerful, sadistic control freak, but he feels way more menacing and real than in canon and this play feels exactly right for him.

I'm really hoping Harry gets a 'win' of some kind soon, because my heart can take much more of this. The poor, poor boy.

I stand by what I've said before. There might be better written fics out there or maybe a few with better pacing or worldbuilding or dialogue. But Blood Crest blows every other story out of the water for sheer creativity, cleverness and ballsiness.

(Also, I loved Petri summoning roses to shoo Silviu away. Cute moment in the middle of everything.)
