I decided to test it and Word picks up on it being wrong immediately. So unless you're using a different word processor you can't use it being a typo as an excuse.

For me, the much more annoying word error like that is ravage instead of ravish.

I'm pretty sure the passionate love scene isn't supposed to be full of carnage & destruction.

Some more irritation exemplars of misappropriation used words

    Adverse vs Averse
    Deprecate vs Depreciate
    Flaunt vs Flout
    Noisome vs Noisy
Nonplussed does not mean bored or unimpressed.

I was surprised by this one. Apparently it's an Americanism.

    Merriam Entry

I'd be more forgiving of this tbh.

In line with weird phrases - I’m not sure whether it’s incorrect, precisely, but using noun as an adjective weirds me out, every damn time. Specifically noticed with “you’re magic, Harry!” (As in, magical) and also “he was very melancholy” (instead of melancholic). I’m not sure whether is a regional thing, or if there’s some special rule, but it always breaks my immersion.

I don’t see this much in HP fanfic, but overuse of a stutter drives me up the wall. Anyone who’s read a decent amount of MHA or MCU Spider-Man fanfic will know what I mean.

    “I-It’s n-nice t-to m-meet y-you,” Izuku muttered shyly.

    Ugh.

    MCU spider man, oh yeah.

It's a classic case of a fanfic community creating their own mental image of what Spider Man is, and that is a very sensitive and nervous little boy who needs to be looked after. Sort of how MCU fans were horribly hurt when poor wittle billionaire Tony was betrayed by his mean boyfriend Steve (how dare he chose basic human rights over Tony!), or how poor Draco was abused by his daddy and now hates how Ron is bullying Harry for falling in love with him (he didn't mean to be a racist, that was just Lucius speaking!).

Spider-Man, Tony Stark, characters who have intelligence, wit, and a sense of humour as their defining character traits are reduced to quivering piles of jelly so they can bottom for step-Loki w-what are you doing?

The irony of these slash pairings is that they're quite often hetronormative (which I guess is also homophobic) in that they assume in a gay relationship someone must assume a masculine role and someone must assume a feminine role.

It is definitely quite interesting that a lot of slash fics tend to reproduce gender roles in the manner you’ve described. The whole genre of Omegaverse fanfiction is absolutely terrible for this.

Omegaverse fanfiction has the unique, for me, characteristic that it's a true red line.

As in, if I see it in a summary, I don't click on the fic. If I don't see it in the summary, but it's in the story... I hit 'close tab' immediately.

Omegaverse... is that the wolf porn? Lindsay Ellis did a video on it recently.

I think that's because a lot of slash is written by women and consumed by a largely feminine audience. Slash is like their version of guys that watch lesbian porn.

I meant Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics. Look it up... or don't, because that shit is beyond terrible. ;)

The wolf porn spawned it but the dynamics have since been copied everywhere.

Yes, but lesbian porn isn't generally filled with masculine and feminine roles.

A lot of lesbian porn is shot for a male audience.

Slash fiction is predominantly written and consumed fantasies for cis women. Lesbian porn is predominantly shot and consumed fantasies for cis men.

In the vast majority of cases, neither are an accurate or sensitive portrayals of homosexual relationships or sex. They are titillation/fetishization for a straight audience and often use offensive/outdated stereotypes to that end.

I would say there is probably a greater amount of slash fanfiction written/read by teens working their sexuality out than there is in lesbian porn, but the first audience still vastly outweighs the second.

Magical shields being unable to stop physical objects such as bullets. I just can't buy the idea that wizards can use magic to bypass all laws of physics and nature but are helpless against tiny, fast moving pieces of metal and lead.

That sounds pretty wacky. What was the justification for it?
