Well, in the past, KK's role has been whatever she damn well felt like it being. Backstage, there was all kinds of direct interference from her at every stage of production of the sequel trilogy. From arbitrarily throwing away plotlines, character arcs, and footage that didn't fit her vision, all the way down to micromanaging the kind of language used by the production teams. Seriously, watch some of the behind-the-scenes footage for the sequels. Between KK and her little cult of like-minded followers, the interference was near-constant.

 

Kennedy very much views herself as the heir to Lucasfilm, so she's not vacating that seat willingly. And tbh it's not entirely undeserved. She was a big part of the Indiana Jones production team and George taught her a lot.

The thing is Filoni is George 2.0 with better ideas, with more flair for storytelling structure, and he was basically George's 'apprentice' on Clone Wars.

I really wish Kennedy had the wherewithal to acknowledge that, relinquish some of her official power, and like... dub him the Star Wars Czar or something.

 

For some reason I was expecting this to be a character alignment grid.

 

That's a big primary cast for a hermit living alone in a desert.

 

The more I think about it, the more I wonder why the hell they're bothering with casting Hayden Christensen as Vader. The man was an excellent facial expression/body-language actor in the prequels, but couldn't read a line to save his life. If they're bringing him back in the Vader suit, that nullifies about 90% of what he's good at (though at least Vader's lines will be handled by a voice actor so we won't have to suffer through that again).

 

Hayden’s been fine with any dialogue that wasn’t being directed by George Lucas, and nobody in the prequels gave a great verbal performance because Lucas is notoriously bad at writing and directing dialogue.

 

Some interesting choics there, I'll be curious to see where they all fit in and how much of the "hermit in the dessert" gets replaced with "dessert hermit by day, secret ninja rebel by night".

 

Honestly, I don't think we're getting much Kenobi on Tatooine. I imagine something will pull him off planet.

 

A secret ninja rebel would give more explanation to Leia being sure he's the only one who can help other than being told by her father.

As for Hayden I suspect that he's going to be playing a version of Anakin, a clone or a vision, not Vader.

 

I expect the show will ape the structure of The Mandalorian. The first episode will be him adjusting to life as Ben Kenobi, Hermit of the Dune Sea, possibly with some brief bits of Kid!Luke meeting him, and then there'll be some inciting incident that forces him to come out and Do Something. He leaves on a journey to go deal with that, and along the way he'll run into various side quests, with each episode being a new one, until he finally solves the problem and returns to Tatooine, where the season ends.

 

I now want a crack!fic of a Kenobi famous for his pancakes who's got to balance his day job with saving the galaxy.

 

Yeah true enough, George Lucas sucked more than a lot of fans would like to admit these days. But I still wasn't exactly blown away by Hayden's vocal performances in "Jumper" or "First Kill" (admittedly the only movies I've seen him in other than Star Wars). He wasn't terrible, but he certainly wasn't very good either.

Nice. It took me a second, but then I lol'd.

 

I could not care less what the plot is or how Anakin/Vader fits into it. I'm here for Sassy-Wan and the inevitable amazing memes.

The teaser trailer looked fun. Love the look of the Grand Inquisitor, looks more menacing than he does in Rebels.

 

Well I am not impressed.

Can't help but feel like it looks like Book of Fett.

Also, I will die happy if I never see another desert in star wars property again.

They have a universe to explore. Get creative. Make us wonder. Show us something we couldn't imagine.
