They rushed through the explanation, but the logic is that A) the TVA's extended presence in the timeline is enough to cause a branch event, and B) that they don't have equipment to actually locate the variant, just tech that pinpoints a branching timeline. Until Loki came along and suggested it, no one at the TVA thought to test the "cataclysms sans survivors have no variance" theory, so they probably assumed just hanging out in such periods to watch for variants would be a big no no timeline-wise.

 

I think the implication is very much supposed to be that this is femLoki - "If anything, you're me".

But as discussed in Discord, I feel like if this is the case, then it's a pretty big plot hole.

The whole premise of the show is that the TVA ensures a single timeline by erasing all "variants". So there should not be a multiverse or alternative versions of yourself out there, except for variants who have evaded capture.

If there was a femLoki, she would be born a variant. The "sacred timeline" version of Loki is male. FemLoki is a deviation from that the moment she comes into existence. So the TVA should have purged her at birth, and a baby femLoki would have no ability to avoid that. So she shouldn't exist.

Nor, for that matter, should any other of the Lokis who appear to have been born different, like Hulk!Loki. The only variants which are "out there" should be variants who become variants when they are already adults and therefore have some capacity to evade immediate capture upon becoming a variant.

 

Well they did recently revealed that Loki is genderfluid in MCU. This variant could decide to be a woman anytime.

 

Pretty much what Celestine said. Heck if it wasn’t Disney, I’d say that was the variant fork. Male Loki choosing to become/identify Female Loki and the showing becomes more about Transgender rights. But this is Disney so that’ll just be an unspoken subtext.

 

Loki isn't anything other than Loki. Even in the comics whenever Loki chooses to appear male or female, he's still Loki. Not Male!Loki, not Female!Loki, Loki!Loki. For there is only Loki in this Loki-world. Things like gender, skin color, age or anything other to do with appearance are meaningless to the God of Mischief.

Ep 3 was pretty solid in my opinion, even if it did sag at times. I think some people will take issue with how quickly they're opening up to one another, but I chalk it up to a rough combination of loneliness, manipulation and narcissism. You know, standard MCU Loki stuff.

 

Also, Loki falling in love with Loki just fits the narcissism.

where theyre running around trying to get onto the arc was a lot less impressive than the directors probably thought it was.

Two actors running in circles on a green screen kind of ruins the magic of a single shot lol.

Wasn’t in love with the run time either. Its only 6 episodes long, why do we need a filler episode?

 

I really loved this one. Character piece with amazing set pieces. This really feels like Doctor Who to me which is all I wanted.

 

This is one of those episodes that I really enjoyed while watching but know the more I think about it the less I would like it.

Alternative reality and time travel always leads to these nit picky conversations.

 

I figure everything's been an illusion since Sylvie woke up on the train to Asgardian folk music.

Nah that’s to much like “it was all a Dream”, people would riot.

 

Only if they dragged it out.

 

Four possible options I think. If they surprise me and pick a different one, that would be awesome.

- No illusions, they're "rescued" by Mobius.
- Sylvie charmed Loki in the beginning of the episode.
- Loki charmed Sylvie when she fell asleep.
- (Very unlikely) Loki swiped one of the infinity stones (time?).

 

I suspect that Moebius will rescue them, but it doesn't make sense to do so - both of the Lokii are better off dead from the TVA perspective.

I really never took the showing of the stones in the TVA as something other than a funny footnote, as much as I think it would be awesome to see what someone as twisted as Loki would do with a few of them. But this, in essence, is why I agree that it's highly unlikely - it feels like he'd have used them ASAP if he had them, not just follow Sylvie around and monologue.

The prolonged talk and focus on how exactly her enchantment works, and how she has to build something the target will believe would almost have to lead to that happening to one of them, wouldn't it. This is why I love this show so far - there are a large handful of things that this episode's ending could lead to, and I'd believe (and be alright with) any of them being the case.

Hiddleston himself said that episode 4/5 are when this really goes off the rails too. Can't wait.
