I made an account mainly to read the rest of HP and the boy who lived. Forgot about it for like a year and then vaguely recognised the name being referenced in some thread on reddit. Came back out of curiosity and then joined up properly after lurking for a month odd.

My first Harry Potter fanfic got roasted by some reviewers so while looking for someone to back me up I came across DLP. But before posting my fic I started worrying I'd get roasted here too so I checked out some DLP stories, before realising my story was as bad as the reviewers had said.

From spacebattles I think? People were roasting some of wildbows works, well not roasting giving critique...and I decided to lurk for a couple of years I guess. For some reason, I like when people are hyper-critical of things I like. I guess I like new perspectives or find harshness more... truthful.

Yah I know around 2003 I was reading HP fanfic. I used to hang out a little on SugarQuill and I stopped by DLP a bunch of times before joining.

But I don’t know how I found either site. Hell I don’t know how I discovered that fanfic existed.

I think maybe I tried to Google when book 5 was coming out and found… Barbs (?) book 5? Realized it wasn’t actually book 5 then tried to figure out wtf and discovered fanfic and sites that talked about it?

    I legit have no idea.

I started after book 7, when a friend jokingly mocked that I'd go and read the fan fiction next. I hadn't ever thought of it until then.

I remember googling 'Harry Potter fan fiction' and the first flc I ever read was Eclipse of the Sky by firefawn. In hindsight, it's terrible, but I liked it at the time. I started looking for more fics, and at this point I somehow found DLP when focusing on quality. I have a feeling that someone's author's note intrigued me, but I can't be sure.

For me it became a running theme that a lot of the highest quality stories I could find would reference DLP in their authors notes. Naturally after the 3rd or 4th time this happened I got curious about just what DLP was and resorted to some research (ie a google search).
I lurked for a while before actually making an account, but eventually wanted the ability to post myself and registered.

Well I guess I can safely say that it was Jbern!

So happy to see you active. I used to read your stuff all the time and it’s been fascinating to see how you influenced countless other stories. Hope all has been well for you.
