The first arc of Arcane - League of Legends is actually impressively good, and I say that with only cursory knowledge of LoL lore gained from like maybe a month of playing.

Tbh, I don't think you even need to be familiar with the game at all to enjoy this. The animation is incredible and the story is, shockingly, excellent.

 

I watched it and loved it. Worst part is having to wait until next week for the next 3 episodes.

 

Yeah I'm not sure what's up with that. Is this Netflix's new thing?

 

The 3 episodes a week? Not sure. But they've been doing the episodic releases for a little while now, like Rick and Morty and Castlevania etc. Sometimes they'll release a full season at once like the good old days, sometimes they'll milk it a bit. Still at least its only 3 weeks to get the full season instead of 1 episode a week.

 

I suspected it's because it's not only on Netflix and it turned out it's on Tencent Video. When they share the series they either wait for the whole to be released before having it on their service or have it episodically.

 

They actually premiered the first episode on twitch before it came out on netflix. Got some decent viewer numbers, around 600k on their main channel alone for the full episode. They split the stream screen to show the audience every now and then so it wasn't a full clean screening for copyright reasons, I don't think netflix would of liked that. I'm assuming once the premier was finished that was when netflix made the first three episodes available as when I logged on after the stream they were available to watch on netflix.

 

Some streamers were able to do all three of 'em. Depends on what contract you had with the Forces Above.

 

Finished up Midnight Mass a bit behind schedule. Ep1-3 really should have been compressed into one, there's slow burn and then there's dragging like a dog's ass on the carpet. Ep4-6 were absolutely stellar though, loved it. It really failed to cinch the landing in the end sadly, but I don't regret watching it. I admit I can't really think of another story that did an explicit Vampirism as Alcoholism metaphor though; lots of "as drugs" but more in the side of addiction rather than drunkenness and responsibility.

 

Really second that Arcane recc, I only know the barest bits of lore and I'm enjoying it. It took a bit into the first episode for me to get into the animation style but by ep. 3 I was loving that too.

 

The second Arcane arc is fantastic. Fuck. I need it to be next week. No, scratch that, I need 10 seasons and a movie.

 

In regards to Arcane, I was invested throughout and very thoroughly entertained.

In regards to Jinx:

I'm impressed that they didn't shy away from making Jinx both actually insane as well as unquestionably a murderer. I hope neither of these traits are forgotten or handwaved, and so far it seems like they might not be. Warily optimistic that this might actually be adressed in some way rather than handwaved because she's a protagonist and/or a fan favorite.

But yeah; Arcane is amazing so far. Very well animated, actually engaging plot threads that occasionaly intersect, great voice acting. Just overall great work so far. I hope it keeps up the same quality.

 

I did not expect Arcane to be good, but I was very wrong. Didn’t expect it to be so dark, or to deal with those issues as well and as seriously as it did, but it really knocked it out of the park. The end of episode 3 absolutely fucking wrecked me for the rest of the day.

 

Each episode just keeps getting better imo. Cant wait for the 3rd arc.

 

Arcane is such a banger. I'm proselytizing it to everyone I know lol.

 

Just watched Arcane.

WOW, this had absolutely no right to be as good as it is.

I know nothing about league of legends. But damn this series is incredibly good.

Powder's character arc is a perfect example of how to make a villain.

Its understandable, relatable and terrifying.

The only low point is the academic stuff. I feel nothing for those characters except for the guy using a walking stick. He also seems like he will descend into depravity.

I genuinely wish this series succeeds and we can see other games have great adaptations like this. I think apex legends can also make a pretty good series.

Or , how good would an elder scrolls series be?

 

Just finished Arcane. It really stuck the landing.

The fighting scenes were exceptionally well done as well.

But it’s Jinx that carries this entire series. Just a perfect arc well executed. Loved loved loved the ending.

Recommend to everyone, 10/10 for league fans. Could not have hoped for more.

Is it wrong that I was sad about Silco?

 

Its not wrong at all.

He is an incredible character and a great villain. Everything about him was fascinating.

His motivation, his drive, his actions. They are all understandable and you can see how he truly was the hero of his own story.

He also genuinely cared about Jinx. We never see him ask her to do heinous things. Heck, people were constantly trying to dirve a wedge between them, but he truly seemed to love her unconditionally.

Silco, Jinx and even Sevika were all fascinating characters.

I still don't believe such a good show came from League of legends of all things.

This show is what all those fancy cinematic WoW trailers want to be.

 

I'm just kinda floored at how good it was. I hope they get more seasons despite not making it to the Netflix top 10.

 

Season 2 has already been announced as being in production. Same characters.
